When the conversation started shifting to talking about feeling broken because of the lack of desire/drive, and the shame and guilt around what that does in a relationship, then the segue into consent really hit me in a spot. I got the chills and started crying. Yes I can relate to all of those feelings and experiences, but not usually so emotionally. Maybe it's the realization ( with my recent ADHD diagnosis at 48)that I'm no longer just chalking up all my short comings to "I'm just broken" with no medical explanation as to why behind it anymore. And that this wasn't something I could have fixed with extra effort or just doing it because it kept my partner happy and feeling desirable, regardless of how I felt. Thank you Catie for your continuation to drive the hard conversations and normalize taking about this stuff. I've been following you on a few of your platforms for a number of months now, and find your content relatable, eye opening and entertaining.
Not me finally feeling understood @12:35 😅 anyone I talk to about this keeps thinking I'm nuts or I just don't love my partner. The amount of judgment and just inability to understand about this topic from people who don't have ADHD is so wild half the time I just give up defending myself.
I think that the impact of "task initiation" on relationships and heck just life cannot really be overstated. It sounds so simple like most things about ADHD but when it's your life being impacted...OOF!
Soooo relatable honestly. We have a couple of amazing guides on ADHD and hormones and menopause specifically if you want to check them out to see if you spot any new helpful tips...maybe? www.understood.org/en/articles/adhd-hormones-women www.understood.org/en/articles/menopause-adhd-symptoms

Not being aware what day it is, just living that adhd life.
Between ADHD and post-pandemic life sometimes I think I don't know what I'd do without digital reminders and dings to keep me on track.
Work is the only reason I know what day it is, as a rule.
