  • This video is about Installing 4D Carbon Fiber Vinyl on Pillars of a 2002 Ford Focus. They were worn out and needed some updating. I covered the existing trim pieces and cut to fit. I go into some detail of mistakes that people make when doing this themselves. Subscribe to my page to see more upcoming projects (wrapping mirrors and interior parts)

    Just a little tip, dont rub the squeegee up and down, go in one direction only. i.e, from top to bottom and lift the tool off the vinyl and start again. Saves air bubbles being pushed around.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  7 років тому +1

      Thanks. It wasn't very hard to do and you will also have more room for error. Those kits are cut almost exact. If you are the slightest bit off you will have to buy a new set. This is a much easier and safer way to do it.

      Do you have any recommendations as to where I can find this material online? I saw a few dealers on Ebay and one of them is selling a 12" x 60" roll for about $6.00. Not 3M brand but a clone of it I suppose. I also heard it's easy to remove in case you no longer like the look and it leaves no sticky residue behind. Is this true? Thanks!!

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  7 років тому +1

      Yes it is super easy to remove. I would try to get a good quality vinyl because it will give you better results. I believe my stuff total was like $40 will tools included. Just do a google search for automotive
      vinyl.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  6 років тому

      You can trim it immediately. This video was actually my first time so you can do it too. the heat gun is only needed if you have to stretch the material. If you have to stretch it a lot there are some good videos on youtube with tricks when using a heat gun.

  • @akshaysobti2186

    Great work :) I do have a question. What if the Carbon Fiber Vinyl is not sticky enough? Is their any glue or something that can be applied that won't damage the paint or leave any residue if the Vinyl is removed?

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  8 років тому

      +akshay sobs You can try to apply heat to the vinyl to melt the glue already on the material and try it. Other than that if its not sticky I would not even attempt to use it. There is some glue that would hold the edges but that won't help you if the material is bad.

  • @ThornEternal
    @ThornEternal 6 років тому +1

    Heating the vinyl up makes cutting harder. If it conforms and stretches cutting isn’t as easy as when it’s stiff. It’s like paper pretty stiff you can hold it in one hand and cute through real easy.
    Good finished product thought looks great!

    • @DaveMedicus

      I kept it on for 3 years but you can keep them on for way longer. I’ve see people easily get 6 years out of it. I had a decal on my truck hood for the 8 years that I owned it. It just gets a little harder to pull off because it gets brittle with age. I’m talking about when under force.

      You don't have to get carbon fiber vinyl wrap. The vinyl wrap is available in many different colors and finishes. Look on eBay and Amazon to see all of your options, many sellers will also offer a small piece of wrap for just a few dollars so you can see how it looks in person. I bought a sample from 1 dealer, it looked great on the internet, but looked like crap in person.

    Anyone know how smooth a plastic panel needs to be for vinyls to stick ?? .
    For example the dark grey panels on many cars have a light molded pattern on the surface ( so not to be shiny and smooth ) as on tops of interior door panels on a HYUNDAI or a KIA where your elbow would rest.

      @DaveMedicus  3 роки тому +1

      Usually will conform to those small surface changes well. Gloss patters will show more mistakes or that texture. If you are using a textured vinyl you should be fine in my opinion.

    • @DaveMedicus

      Yes over time. This is why you want to buy a quality vinyl. Many companies will give you a life span estimate when in the sun.

      Logan I am doing great. The vinyl wrap worked great. I kept it on for about 2 1/2 years before I took it off. All of the edges held up great. The adhesive was not very strong on the cheap material I used so I would recommend 3m or Oracle. I plan on doing it again with a different style material just for fun.

      iamMrBiggs I would not have been able to wrap around the inside of the door and make it look right if I did the, both together. The trim went around the inside pretty far. I believe I showed it farther back in the video.

      Ils doivent avoir utilisé un vinyle vraiment bon marché pour faire leur travail. De plus, s'ils ont durci l'installation, ils peuvent se déformer. J'essaierais d'utiliser le moins de chaleur possible. Des erreurs se produisent. Merci d'avoir regardé.
