    I bought this machine and the stitch selector was completely frozen. It sewed ok but was overheating and making a burning smell.I followed your video and cleaned and oiled the stitch lever to release it. I sprayed some PTFE into the motor and now it runs beautifully. Thanks so much for your video! I have a Bernina 1260 that is starting to act up because of electronic issues ( changing stitch length mid sew) So far I can turn the 1260 off and on to reset it, but it is great to have the 1000 as a backup.

    What a fabulous video! I appreciate you making this video as I am considering buying a used Bernina of this circa and have no idea of how to judge the soundness of the machine. I have dropped it off at the repair shop for a service, but I am glad that I can refer back to this for future reference. ❤

    Thank you very much for your video. I have a very old Bernina 1000 & have used it myself for 8 years. It is truely a wonderful machine & so reliable. I am passing on my love of sewing to my 6 year old daughter but unfortunately I was a little distracted & she kept sewing with a snapped top thread. So the thread was entangled in the machine. Anyway, I've used your video to remove the back panel & my bernina tools to caregully disentangle the thread. Thank you for posting your video. As a fellow antipodean now living in UK I was especially enjoying listening to the instructions in your accent. Many thanks!

    Love your videos. The rotary hook in the 1000 Designer and 1000 Special are the subject of some complaints, in comparison with the very well regarded CB oscillating hook that Bernina used on all other machines in this era (and I think is still using in some of their current range). I have a Designer and love it, so I hope the critics are wrong!

    Mine has the same zip accessory bag. Great video btw. I just resurrected mine from the closet. I hope it will sew a good quarter inch seam for quilting.

    I have a bernina 1000 special with the rotary hook and the only problems I had were with needing to replace the capacitor and those pesky fragile carbon pins in the foot control peddle after 10 years of use. It was my first bernina and I bought 3 others in the years that followed. An 850 industri, another rotary hook great for high speed but sometimes temperamental.
    807 minimatic which is much more suited to heavy duty than the 850 industrial, and then the activa 145 computer machine revered for its CB hook set up, and yet the most troublesome. The best quality stitch by a mile is the 1000 and I would never part with it.
    Love your videos I have learned so much from you. Thank you

    Very helpful video. I have 20 of the 1008 models in my classroom, this model seems very similar. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    I have this machine and had no problems until I broke a needle sewing a bag and the needle nicked the plastic hook. Since then, I get lower thread tears when sewing thick items. I have a used replacement rotary hook assembly but cannot find instructions on how to swap out and no one wants to work on older machines. Can you point me to any help? I’m a mech engineer in the US and willing to try anything within reason. Thx!

    help!! I have a Bernina 1001 where the zig zag stitch is not working properly. The right needle picks up the thread but the left needle seems to "bind/bend" before it comes up and the zig zag stitch is very tight. How do I solve this pls.

      Maybe try with a good foot controller first, if you can get one.

    I have a Bernina 1010 that I purchased used. It seems to have a a very hard to turn stitch selection knob, the one that turns the knob from green to red stitches. It also gets stuck in reverse. It sews well otherwise but I hadn’t seen in awhile.

    Thank you for your video. Yesterday my beautiful Bernina 1000 had a problem with the stitch length knob, it's actually come off. Is there a way to get the front cover off so I can have a go at putting it back on. I have taken the back cover completely off. Thank you for your help.

    How do you adjust the bobin tension?

    Thanks for this information. I have already got a Bernina 910 Electronic. I notice this machine got less electronics and got a rotary hook. Is the harp area on this machine larger? Can you adjust down force on presser foot? I have seen this Bernina 1000 for sale nearby for about 40 Euro, so I try to make an assesment of this type of machine.

    I have a Bernina 1000 designer which the needle is hitting the metal in the bobbin wheel underneath, so the needle break. That is when it is with needle in position 0. Furtherst out to the left. How do I fix that? I also see that the upper thread in the other poistion when the needle runs thru down it doesn’t make a loop and bring the bobbin thread up. So there will not be any stitches. Is there an easy way for me to open the maschine and fix it. Kind regards

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  Рік тому +1

      Difficult to say without seeing the machine but it sounds like the hook timing and/or the needle bar height could be out. Make sure your needle is inserted correctly. May need servicing at you closest sewing machine repair shop. Thanks.

      Thank you kindest for answering me. I was hoping I could open up the maschine and do it myself, I understand I have to leave it to my local repair shop. Thank you for showing in all your videos how to fix other problems! 🙏🏻

    I just opened up my machine and I noticed that the thing metalized paper capacitor next to the motor switch has completely exploded at some point. My machine motor is working normally, as far as I could tell...What does this part do? Should I replace it?

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  4 роки тому

      The capacitor has more than likely failed open circuit so the machine will still be usable. It would pay to remove it if you can. I'd also get it replaced. It's for electrical noise suppression. Thanks.

    I have been sewing with this machine for over 20 years. I love this machine! I live 150 miles from the nearest Bernina dealer but I take it in every year for service. I have been having trouble with my bobbin thread tension for a while now. I replaced the bobbin case but the tension is still so high adjusting the top thread tension all the way to 10 does not help. Any ideas?

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  3 роки тому +1

      Try lowering the bobbin tension incrementally.

    • @libbymae31
      @libbymae31 3 роки тому

      I just read that it may be the screw on the bobbin case. Someone said theirs gets loose and messes with the tension. Thought it might help if you are still having trouble.

      @@libbymae31 Thanks Elizabeth... I finally took it into a shop 150 miles away. It runs better now than it has in years. I have it serviced every year but I took it to a different shop this time and they worked magic! I will never go to different shop again.

    Hello!! we have learned a lot from your video's!! me and my husband. We had a capacitor popped and smoked. We took a part the machine to see what was smoking and found it on the PC board. Thru eBay we found a replacement board kit. Got that part put back onto the mother board or PC board. Now we are trying to put the machine back together. Only trouble is where does the ground wire go from the motor??? We have watched your videos but no one talks about that !! We should have taken pictures but didn't. Can you tell me exactly what to do with the green ground wire from the motor, where does it connect to coming from the power supply?? Bernina 1005 - 0004307100 E-1010 (if these help). thanks in advance!!

    How times have changed, back in the day a man wouldn't be caught dead sewing, it was considered woman's work

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  3 роки тому +4

      Sorry but I couldn't let this one slide...
      History shows men have been sewing for many years. Take a visit to an upholsterer, sail maker, shoe and boot repairer or a tailor, to name a few and you'll see they are predominantly men. Do you think these men have to run their businesses in a clandestine manner so they don't have to be seen dead? Do you think maybe that they have a woman at front of shop taking in the work while the man hides out the back so no one knows he's doing the sewing?
      I also have a number of customers who are older men, in their 70s, 80s and 90s who have been sewing since they were boys.
