This was my first time changing one out on an X3. The total time was around 10 hours, spread out within 3 days.
Before starting, get a pack of vinyl pry tools, helps from damaging the surfaces.
Anyway, we didn't use any instructions, just watched a few videos, then recorded the removal for back up, in case we forgot a step or two.
You want to make sure to power down the vehicle; remove the battery terminal. If not, there will be possible codes that will need to be erased, and some by dealer only.
When you purchase the evap, new o-rings are supplied. The only thing I bought was some foam tape to match factory specs. Not sure if there would be a possible squeak or rattle without it, I didn't want to take the chance.
After everything is powered up, you must start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel left to positive stop and then to right positive stop. this will reset the lights on the cluster.
    Good Luck!
    P.S.
I removed the glovebox prior to removing the airbag.

Bill Gubacz Thanks Bill, I'll launch into it in a few weeks as I have a few other projects lined up before that - I'll be sure to watch your video several times to get a feel for sequence of events and use all shared advices
      Thanks again :-)

I am going to do the same procedure, but I have a doubt with the initial and post-installation process. Does something have to be done to the AC system, such as emptying and filling of AC air? Your video has been very helpful, any other recommendations to keep in mind during the process and at the end?

First of all, nice job. But, I have a question. My a/c sometimes blows some kind of mist through the vents, I have no clue what it could be, help.

    Hi Bill,
I am about to launch into the same job on my 05 X3. From what I see in the fast pace video it seems like most of the tasks are performed with no special tools... Mostly clips, small metric nuts and screws (and a ton of patience) it seems.
    Questions:
    - how long did it take total? Was it your first time doing it? (If not what is the estimate first timer doing this time for a decent do it yourselfer)?
    - did you have main steps instructions (remove passenger airbag before glove box or so...)? If yes can you please share?
    - what parts (clips, o'rings...) are needed in addition to the evaporator itself?
    Thanks
    Lionel

You just use a vinyl stick and slightly pry up on all sides. There are only clips holding the vents in place. If you need more help send me an email.

What symptoms did the car have prior to replacing this..??

    • @billgubacz
      @billgubacz  5 років тому

Symptoms were the system wouldn't stay charged, no a/c leaks at the lines near the engine, and I believe there was compressor oil where the HVAC is located.

What were the symptoms? Did it smell before replacement? I have a "bandaid" type of smell.
    Thanks

V Kochar The main symptoms were no A/C and trying to defog the windows on humid days. Also, signs of A/C oil leaking from under the evap core.
