My dad has a horse barn and runs it as his business, one of the clients told me you can tell a lot about the barn by how friendly/social the cats are. Guess it’s good we had really friendly cats.
You have to feed Molly and Jinny separately. They are getting territorial about their food now that they are both “adults”. Hence the fighting. Separate the food bowls by a few feet and they should settle down.
Our “old” male cat is the king of our property too. None of the dogs, other cats, chickens (roster included), or ducks mess with him. He’s a kind soul too and super friendly, but definitely in charge everyone. With just a side look he stops the dogs in their tracks lol
There is nothing better for an animal than to have such a home and such a loving owner. You can see that you have a very close relationship with your animals and that is just wonderful. I love you both. Best wishes from Austria
True. I've got four and each one has their own 'station'. They wait for their bowls at their assigned places. Cats are super routine oriented. But they are one track minded if they want something and will not be detered after multiple attempts to attain whatever it is.

Yes🙌 I completely agree. I grew up in a house with lets just say a lot of cats, they all needed their own bowl and place to eat. Some, like Molly, enjoy eating in peace. The order in which you feed is up to you, cuz you know your cats the best.
In Korea, cats with gray and black stripes are called mackerel. This is because the stripes are thought to resemble the patterns on the back of a mackerel.
Pablo is clearly a seasoned hunter. Dusk and dawn are the best time for rodents because they are leaving/returning to their burrows. Pablo probably figured out a long time ago dusk was his best time. Also I can't get enough of Ginny cam. Her little feet!
That was 100% ADORABLE when Pablo allowed Jinny to eat out of his food dish 💞 It;s GREAT to see the cattle down in the lower part of the pasture also! 🐄🐮 The barn cats are all PERFECT (including Lil) in their own ways 🐈🐈
My grandparents never had a farm, but they had a pretty big gulley in their backyard. That’s bot relevant, but they used to also have a couple cats, back before I was born. A story my dad always tells is one where their cat named Smudge once snuck INTO my dad’s truck (which was always packed with boxes and work stuff as he is a cell technician). He got up for work, started driving, and heard meowing, looked back and saw Smudge. He had to drive back home to bring the cat back, but it made for a pretty cute and funny story to tell.
When Ginny growled at Toby my kitten woke up and looked real concerned lol. At this rate you'll have to put her in your video credits as a camerawoman!
I don’t 😊remember who makes it, but you might check into the cat food that has an additive that stops them from producing the enzyme that is excreted in their saliva that you are actually allergic to. Your vet can also give it to you in pill form. It does work.
Simple enough to feed Molly and Gin-gin separately. Will avoid squabbles until Molly gets used to her daughter again. Which I'm sure will happen.... Congrats on starting to get the cattle settled in. The night footage is way cool, seeing cats do what cats do at night.
Aww the kitty cam was adorable 😍😍😍 she really has a very active life with so much going on at the farm. She gets right to work hunting those mice and birds 🤣😂
13:24 Is anyone else afraid for Toby dog at this moment? The growl along with staring him down when hi is not looking her way. Cracks me up. I LOVE THESE VIDEOS!!
It is a fulfilling life but the amount of work it is shocks some people. I was raised on a farm. I loved it but when I left for college I also enjoyed the down time.
That egg went tumbling down the ramp 🤣 Ginny is so adorable! I was worried she’d remain skittish but as she’s gotten older she’s really blossomed into her own little personality ❤️🐱
Ginny is very attached to you and the planter is the place she feels closest to you when you are in for the night. Maybe she needs a heated cubby for the winter. She is so sweet and loving.
I think they stay in the barn when the weather gets cold. They don't stay outside. Toby is the only animal built to survive staying outside when winter comes along.
You should get a float value for your 50-gallon tank. It's practically essential for the hydration of cattle. All it does is fill a tank until it reached a certain height, so it will ensure your cattle will always have water.
What a wonderful, lighthearted and oh so sweet snapshot into the lives of your furry friends. I needed this upbeat video today. Really loved the fad of the night and moon progression over the hills shot too. Best to Gold Shaw Farms!!
Idk if anyone has said this yet but the cows might like the trees because of the shelter they provide so it may be a good idea to give them shelter where you want them to go.
Thanks for my visits to the farm. As a child, I had a friend who lived on a farm that I was allowed to spend overnight and weekend visits with. Your podcasts bring back great memories. You are an ethical farmer and I admire that. You seem eager to learn all you can. Thank you so much.
This channel is one of my, as well as my cat’s, favorite channels. I’m currently at home with a cold and my cat LOVED watching this “episode”. She started growling the same time as Ginny while she had the camera lol
I think one of the reasons why Molly is being mean to Ginny Is one- she smells different You get weird smells from the vet after surgery And two, a mom animal (dogs do this too) basically tell their child that I don't feed you anymore, you're on your own I'm not going to be nice mommy anymore But those are my thoughts But definitely get another cat bowl Feeding in the same bowl will cause fights instead of separate Since Molly wants her own food Plus Gonny is just wanting to take all the cat food as quickly as she can before anyone else can have it
My cat, who spent most of her life being a mostly outdoors cat, was an excellent hunter. She'd often leave bird kills and parts (yes parts, she ate them) of mice she'd catch on the doorstep. She even caught rats sometimes. Willow made it to 20/21.
Thank you Morgan. I love it. It's like watching a serial drama which has rhythm and is steady & comforting. I grew up on a sheep farm here in New Zealand, and while it is a world away from Vermont, the gentleness of your home and lifestyle is lovely. Comforting and warm, xxx cat
Although I enjoy ALL of your videos, this one was especially well-edited and a very full story of the lives of the cats. This was just a joy to watch: relaxing and fun. You capture their personalities of the cats and TobyDog and help us enjoy each of them as individuals. Endless thanks for all the hours of joy that you bring to me through your channel.
I wanted to suggest in the future Siberian cats. I do so because they are hypoallergenic, prolific hunters very powerful and can withstand the coldest winter with no issue. I have two of them, both over 15lbs of muscle and they, even after being fixed are amazing hunters. Anyway just a suggestion 😀
Cats are more crepuscular than nocturnal. Dawn and dusk are the times when they're most active, because that is when their prey is most active. The mother/daughter relationship in cats is complicated. Cats are all about territory and the mama cat's job is to rear up her young to go on to their own territory and get out of hers. Still, cats most often live in relative harmony, as yours do, in small colonies. They are not nearly as solitary as once believed and form tight bonds within their groups, and with the humans in their lives. It would probably reduce tension to feed each cat out of its own bowl instead of the double bowls. Thanks for treating your cats so well. I really enjoyed the footage from Ginny's day. I found you via Roots and Refuge and have subscribed. ~ Lisa
so when a kitten grows up its mom sorta pushes them into that pecking order thing, where they stop babying them as much, so molly is probably just making sure ginny knows her place in all that with her
I love how Toby and the cats know what they're doing while the fowl are goofy and clueless, as is their nature. It's no mistake we eat the fowl and we don't eat dogs or cats.
It is important to have working farm animals (cats & dogs) especially on a large farm - just happy to follow your videos around the farm & how much you care & love all of them. (A combi of wet & dry cat food for the working cats to prolong their lives). They're the best workers - no airing of grievances & the best paw patrol around the farm.
For what it's worth, mother cats don't keep their motherly feelings for their young once they're adults, so she won't be motherly with Ginny again. Also, female cats are generally quite defiant of other cats and get quite territorial, more so than fixed males in my experience. This also makes them more anxious and threatened if other cats get too close... I think they need each their own bowl to eat like Pablo has, at the very least.
I guess it comes from being a city boi, but i find my self watching these farm vlogs alot of the time. And this channel is probably the one i like most. It's wholesome and calming to watch a man work his farm and interact with animals. Man i think i need a vacation, never wanna see a cubicle again
I love seeing when the cats hunt .. not to sound weird but im totally happy to see some small footage of when the cats are hunting and eating their hunts to be included in the videos as well.
I love how you are showing the cats hunt and take care of the different pests on the farm. It's not always a pretty sight, but a necessary piece of cat life.
To keep the cats out of Tobi's area, you can put a 45° net angled out on top of the fence. They'll look up and won't even attempt to jump it. You can look up videos on how to do it but it's fairly simple and easy. Love your farm💙
Your farm, all the animals, and your gentle loving treatment of your animals is a beautiful thing to behold. This is what life is about, away from the rat race. God bless you all!
Definitely each Cat needs their own bowl to prevent squabbling amongst them. Especially now that they are both technically adults and no longer in the Mother Kitten relationship.
Oh my goodness! The cat-cam is PHENOMENAL! INCREDIBLE! WONDERFUL! EXCELLENT! Thank you for that! When I had my second cat spade, years ago, her sister also freaked out and tried to fight her. For years! It was a nightmare! Lastly, Toby has the most adorable face! Awe, look at those eyes! I looove him!
So proud to see Ginny's first kill ☠ ! Someone's probably mentioned this, but Molly's hostility after Ginny's vet stay is normal. It will probably work itself out. Also be aware, mama cats often don't stay lovey dovey with their female offspring once they become teenagers. Just a sad fact of cat life. I'm glad Ginny's found a friend in Pablo though. He's such a sweet soul 🧡 As for the cattle, I think you're onto a winner with the "blue bucket" approach! Having their treats down by the poultry area may help create a positive association with the birds. The fact they're coming down to the lower pasture when the birds are asleep is a very good sign!
Molly attacks Ginny? Easy. Ginny isn't a baby anymore. She is a teenager now. And Molly wants to make sure that Ginny knows her place. Ginny doesn't even have to be cheeky, cats like to preemptively dish out. The policy is "I'd rather hit you before you get any funny ideas. That way I look tough and you think twice." What you've shown in the video is still perfectly normal. Still, I'd start feeling them from separate food bowls. That way it stops feeling like they have to compete for food. That might help with some of the pent-up aggression on Molly's side. To make sure Molly knows there is enough space and food here and she does not have to chase her kitten out to find its own territory? Because that's also a natural instinct for mother cats. "I've done my due diligence, you are now grown and will become a burden on my resources if I let you stay and might eventually chase me out so while you are still weaker I'll chase you out, go find your own place!" kinda like that. The way I understand it, Molly herself is still pretty young and she hasn't been on the farm long either. It's really possible that while she understands that the farm is now her home, she still feels insecure about resources which will definitely lessen over time as she comes to understand you provide for them reliably all year round.
Did you know ?… they have FERAL chickens and roosters in Hawaii?! 😂 I was there in May visiting with my cousin for the first time, and got the biggest kick out of them. They are everywhere! 🐔🐥

Quietly says, “release the quicken” so as not to spook the cattle, then shouts, “Toby, come!” when Toby is near the cattle… LOL
Bookkeepers for small businesses say “release the Quicken”. Morgan says “Release the Quacken.” 😉

That cat POV had me laughing for quite some time, because it looks like she is sprinting on two legs instead of 4 :D
Ginny cam is the highlight of my day. Her little legs trotting 😻
I love how at 12:42 the chickens are clucking and the cat responds with a little meow.
You'll have a little less chaos if you give Mol & Gin their own food bowls a meter apart rather than feeding from the same one! Multi-cat protip~
True. I've got four and each one has their own 'station'. They wait for their bowls at
their assigned places. Cats are super routine oriented. But they are one track minded if they want something and will not be detered after multiple attempts to attain whatever it is.
Yup. Different bowls that are different colors (preferably one dark, one light, something like that) and always in the same place would help a lot.
@@gabriellakadar A cat I once knew (of a very close acquaintance) once jumped repeatedly into my lap to be petted. Right then, I was not in the mood, so I put her down repeatedly. I counted almost 30 times, IIRC, that she tried anew - after a few repetitions, I became curious for how long it will go on, that's why I started counting. When she eventually stopped, she gave me a totally stupefied look.
@@a0flj0 Supposedly cats are difficult to train. They are actually difficult to untrain.
Ninja cat.
@@Righthandfrombehind ninja gingin
The term is crepuscular. Cats and rabbits and some other animals are most active at dawn and dusk. That includes deer and porcupine.
Aw, sooooo cute! Ginny's 'whisker cam' legit made my heart skip a beat!
Omg Ginny and her little paws! I love it, it's adorable! She talks a lot. Seeing her catch that enormous mouse was very satisfying.
Never underestimate an old farm cat. They really do get wiser as they age.
Me: whats the differnce between a Chipmunk and a Mouse ?
Barn Cats: Nothing !
Her meows are so adorable even her growls are adorable
When Ginny growled at Toby my kitten woke up and looked real concerned lol. At this rate you'll have to put her in your video credits as a camerawoman!

@@ZackeTheBrute true. Once you get a second one, it won't stop
Molly would hiss at gin gin over food before they were let out of quarantine when they first arrived. It's not a new thing.
Aww the kitty cam was adorable 😍😍😍 she really has a very active life with so much going on at the farm. She gets right to work hunting those mice and birds 🤣😂
I'm starting to understand the Chinese phrase: "like cows drinking water".
Because, dayum, cows definitely drink water fast.
5-10 gallons per day
@@milanradojkovic3818
That's surprisingly what I would've expected for an animal that size...
@@Zappyguy111 dairy cows drink a lot more, some of them can drink about 20+ gallons, especially if they eat dry food...

This life looks so cool and fulfilling, I love farms, I love animals and I love land!
I was thinking the same thing. He could even just rig up the hose to a toilet fill valve mounted at whatever depth he wants in the tank.
Watching Jenny's little paws moving around is so damm cute plus her little meowing as she goes
Very lucky kitties, getting to live such a fulfilling but secure lives.
Loved seeing those little paws running across the farm! Too cute for words!
Love the 'whisker cam" thanks
Oh, and thank you for the shot of the Fall colors around your farm - much appreciated
Aww I love the ducks waddling out their little house
Alvin wont be singing Christmas carols this year.

Theodore and Simon will have to be the pall bearers. I hope they get some grief counseling.
This is the coolest/cutest video. The little paws tramping in the grass is the best! Thanks for sharing your barn life and animals with us.
I think one of the reasons why Molly is being mean to Ginny
Is one- she smells different
You get weird smells from the vet after surgery
And two, a mom animal (dogs do this too) basically tell their child that I don't feed you anymore, you're on your own
I'm not going to be nice mommy anymore
But those are my thoughts
But definitely get another cat bowl
Feeding in the same bowl will cause fights instead of separate
Since Molly wants her own food
Plus Gonny is just wanting to take all the cat food as quickly as she can before anyone else can have it
My cat, who spent most of her life being a mostly outdoors cat, was an excellent hunter. She'd often leave bird kills and parts (yes parts, she ate them) of mice she'd catch on the doorstep. She even caught rats sometimes. Willow made it to 20/21.
Why don't you feed Pablo at the same time as Toby dog? It would give him something to do to give Toby a moment of peace to eat his food.
Or feed Pablo before Toby?
@@dvdgalutube Ah, but Pablo is a cat. All food is *his* food XD. Same time might make a distraction.
I think he tried. Didn't work
Pretty sure he thought of that lol .. Probably didn't work ..
Toby would probably just wait to start eating untill his pal Pablo arrived.
Fun fact: Small Outdoor cats have the highest hunting success ratio of all animals by a large margin
Love how Toby does the exact same stretch every time you come to the door lol
Pablo looks pretty darn well fed. What a lucky life to have access to the great outdoors of Vermont.
As my two kittens got older, I had to give them separate food bowls set a few feet apart. It helps keep the peace.
It's just so funny to see whiskers at the top of the screen!
~ Lisa
i have a feeling “good morning weird chickens” and “viva la pollo” will be my fav things to say from now on.
Release the Quacking is mine
The beauty of a farm. An ecosystem all on it's own.
so when a kitten grows up its mom sorta pushes them into that pecking order thing, where they stop babying them as much, so molly is probably just making sure ginny knows her place in all that with her
Pets such as cats and dogs love feeling useful. This is the life for them and they love it.
I love the way your cats 🐈 and dog Socialize with each other it’s so cute
11:00 'Ginny's point of view'
11:08 Wow! A flying cat! 😻
And they say barn cats are not cared well enough... Not true!!! The happiest cats ever.
Major respect for following your dreams. I'm sincerely rooting for you.
Toby and Poblo are like father and son Poblo is the father and Toby is the son! It’s amazing how a cat and a dog can bond.
I was really hoping for a barncat video after you put the camera on Ginny a few videos ago! I love seeing her tippy tappy paws
Pablo does have that look. You see it in animals and humans alike. I really like Pablo.
That was great. I am a dog person, but I do like to see working cats. Thanks for this peak into their lives on your farm. Well done.
Your farm, all the animals, and your gentle loving treatment of your animals is a beautiful thing to behold. This is what life is about, away from the rat race. God bless you all!
all barn cats are good cats. I love how Pablo seems to mentor Ginny, it's adorable!
Toby is what every farm needs. He loves his farm family. That being said, he will protect his farm family.. 🤗
He's such a sweet soul 🧡
As for the cattle, I think you're onto a winner with the "blue bucket" approach! Having their treats down by the poultry area may help create a positive association with the birds. The fact they're coming down to the lower pasture when the birds are asleep is a very good sign!
It's good to finally hear about what's been going on with the cats! Thanks for spotlighting them!
