I’m a junior in college right now and totally would’ve used this had I known about it before, probably will now. Lori and Damon liked the idea and wanted to close the deal ASAP due to the fear of Mark and Robert potentially investing more than what the entrepreneur initially had come in for. It wasn't a charity, it was an intimidation factor they used. Although they have no background in tech, it seemed like a pretty fascinating idea. Think of it as going all in on the first round of poker, before the deck is even dealt. you have 40% odds of winning considering they partnered up.
The deck was dealt. 92,000 downloads, Two web developers , 20,000 + scholarships in the data base and 1.3 million in proof of concept. Sounds like a dealt deck to me.
Scholly guy was walking down the streets in the night alone and was being followed. It was Barbara, and she said, "You didn't answer Mark and Robert questions, and for that reason, I'm out!"
For the last one I definitely see both sides of the argument. Some of them want to know how the app works and updates while Lori and Daymond felt like they knew enough to invest in it because they’ll be able to find the hiccups when they come along and I think both the ideas are valid
Nah Lori and daymond had no valid argument they were being bitches to the other sharks by pressuring him into doing a deal. They didn't even know how it worked how is that fair to the other sharks and even themselves
Kevin is my favorite Shark. He knows business isn’t applause. It’s return on investment. He’s brutally honest, which is better than telling people a lie while they pursue a business that isn’t going to improve their life.
I think Kevin was right in the end. They should’ve offered him more than 40k. It’s the tech space. They choked him out on that number because they were just trying to scoop him up before the other offered him anything. Everybody was going to make an offer to him.
That's Christopher's fault not the sharks, business is business. First off he under valued his product, that's on him, no one else. No one is a victim here.
Nah I think the other sharks just like asking the entrepreneur all the questions and putting them under pressure. Theuly were saltt they couldn't do it on this guy
That's literally why they are sharks. You see a business with potential. The offer was only 40k for 15%. You have 2 tech related competitors. If you wanna seal the deal without spending more money, you come up with different ways. The other sharks literally expected "fair play" and "ethics". Is that how they made their money? Highly doubt it😂
I agree, but clearly the founder should have done a better job in making a solid ask.... at 40K at 15%, his valuation was only 266K. With almost 100K app bought @ .99 that would have been a 1 Million $ company at 10x multiple. He undervalued his company, Damon and Lori knew it so they pounced, Mark and Robert were worried about the technicals so they missed out.
Kevin instantly wins the second he says “I didn’t see any of you put a DIME in it” The other sharks can squabble but at the end of the day, it’s the money that talks. Kevin’s right
No he doesn't, and that's part of Mark's point. He didn't invest because the issue is SCALE - i.e. it would be a profitable business for THEM (the owners) but not for the investors. Just because it's a (relatively) small business (and hence not investible), doesn't mean it's instantly doomed for failure. That's part of Daymon's point too: "It's her business, she can grow it and work on it but if I get in it'll be too much work for not much reward".
Mark and Robert's faces when Lori makes offer LMAO also Mark literally said "let me ask some important questions first" and she just ignored mark and still went on to her offer and tried to pressure him into immediately accepting.
Mark has literally done the same thing in another episode... he gave his offer at the beginning and told them that if Lori gets to make her offer, then his offer is off the table... it's not a pressure to accept, it's the shark tank, they are expected to make fast decisions
@@PhantomRing nope. He was exactly right. Tbh no listing company would actually prefer tours without the agent purely because of the safety issue and apart from that existing locks will do the exact same thing should they choose to do it, also with a much cheaper cost since they won't need a pop up mechanism.
I can understand both sides of the Scholly deal. They just wanted to know and be sure of what this whole thing entails , how it works behind the scenes , KNOW *WHAT THEYRE PAYING FOR!* I can see that Lori and Damon don’t need to be so ensured because it’s already enough for them and what COULD happen isn’t more important than what has ALREADY happened. They like what they see , don’t need to know any more and just want to get to work. Both sides are understandable.

Of course. If it hasn't completely failed yet, it will soon. There are so many apps that allow you to lock and unlock doors from the other side of the planet. Why would anyone need this?
Kevin is right on the first one, he told them straight up why he didn't see it working. The other sharks danced around the subject, talking about scale and not a good fit but acting like it has lots of room for them to grow. Yes, every once in a while a product like this will break through, but realistically if they're in over 100 Walmart and they are not selling more than two a week, no one wants it. They have a major branding issue that would take way more capital to fix than they have. Maybe the shark tank online boost is enough, but I wouldn't put money on it either.
Maybe I missed it but how long had they been in Walmart? I was under the impression that they had recently secured that contract, and that total or even YTD sales didn’t necessarily reflect projected annual sales revenues. I could be wrong.
I hated the Scholly one. Lori was being rude and Kevin was right, she basically shoved the deal down his throat. Not only was he prevented from giving any information, but she never gave him a chance to consider what was right for him. If her deal was truly the best, why did Lori have to force it on him so hard? Present the offer, then let him decide what is best for his business.
Chris was not wrong about the key lock thing... All they need to do with the already existing ones have remote access. Which would be a security risk tbh. I don't know how this company handled the security risks, like against the flipper device

As a software dev I can say the third business is a nightmare of an idea. Mark and Robert are absolutely right. They should've let him explain the algorithm.
I think Kevin, Mark, and Robert got so angry at the last one because it sets a bad precedent for future entrepreneurs on Shark Tank. Damond and Lori threw their money at Scholly (their money, their prerogative), but without forcing the entrepreneur to explain his execution. The other three got angry because then it does look like charity when you don’t hold him to the same standard as everyone else. The next entrepreneur could then come in with a horrible execution plan and get no offers and counter with “well you gave Scholly a deal!” And then the show looks bad. I’m glad Scholly is doing well, the message was just bad when you act charitable for him, but then don’t apply that standard to everybody else. Seemed like a really nice guy though so I’m glad it worked out for him.
They'd actually already heard a little. Less than you'd want to hear generally, but 40k for 15 when it's already made nearly 100k in its first year alone is a pretty big green flag. Add that to a smart CEO, a wonderful marketing opportunity, a good cause, and a ripe market and you've got a lot of reasons to defend going in this early on Scholly as opposed to other products. I agree with what you're saying that the biggest problem is for the show and its precedent, but I don't think it's as problematic as it looks. The other problem is less about the show and more about the sheer lack of criticism and investigation for its own sake. The guy who came on got a 40k investment... and nothing else. That's not bad, but exposing potential weaknesses and possible fixes in the structure of the business could've meant a lot more for both parties.
Nobody is going to go on the show and say that lol this is some weird fan fiction. And even if they did say that it would absolutely be edited out and never see the light of day.
I think the real issue was the guy actually wanted to hear criticism and the ideas of the other sharks. He didn’t want to devalue his experience on the show and cut it short. But Lori and damen instantly jumped on the help out ppl who need it side of the app instead of seeing it as a whole. And bullied him to say yes early
Kevin is the perfect example of tough love. He gives you the facts, no matter how hard it is to hear; but its all because he wants you to be successful and not deluded. Well done sir.
Yes he was. They’re estimated to be worth about a million dollars, maybe they make 100-150k on that. Thats awesome for themselves as a small buisness it just isnt INVESTABLE. That’s what Mark was trying to get through to Kevins thick skull who wouldn’t let him talk. Some businesses are great for the owner to make a living for themselves but just don’t make sense to invest so Kevins point about why they didnt invest is invalid
He was wrong. Just because he can't invest in a business that doesn't mean it should be shut down. If they continue to make a livelihood for themselves then what's the problem?
The second guy won as soon as the sharks started to defend his product. Hope that guy is super successful for this. It would’ve been really helpful when I was looking for my house

“I would rather work 80 hours a week to make $50k and work for myself, than have a $75-100k job working for somebody else.” Yes! Me too. But the struggle of self employment isn’t for everyone. For some people, a paycheck is worth far more than the dollar amount written on the check. Stability can be priceless. My first business made massive profit, but I was crushed by anxiety and eventually I fell apart. I’m talking a full nervous breakdown. I needed to take a job for 3 years as I healed. After finally confronting my issues and truly healing, the anxiety is gone, and I absolutely love self employment! I can’t imagine working for someone else. And I’m making a 5th of what I did in my first business. I say all this because I know there are people out there struggling with anxiety, thinking there’s something wrong with them because they can’t handle the pressure of working for themselves. It isn’t for everyone. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Peace of mind is worth far more to me than profit.
Shark Tank is actually the best reality show on television. The interactions between the sharks themselves and between them and the entrepeneurs never feel like they were scripted, to the point where I actually feel a little uncomfortable when I see the sharks arguing because it feels too real lol
The reason I feel that Mark and Mike got annoyed by Lori and Damien is because everyone knew the potential of Scholly. They knew that an algorithm like Scholly has a potential to be more than just being a scholarship app. If they allowed the man to answer what the backend engine was about I'm sure the offers would have been more than Lori and Damien could or would be willing to offer. A hardware like that can be sold to other company's to the tones of aerotech or military compounds. Mike and Mark definitely got robbed of an opportunity that could potentially have done more. And I agree with Kevin where he told them that they basically forced the man to say yes without even letting him hear the other offers. In Lori and Damien's eyes this was an opportunity to good to let go.
Chris hired a 20 employee team for the sole purpose to brainstorm and find out how did Toor manage to make that difference, and they still had to work for almost a year to find out how, thats what made his business go bankrupt, but even then, he bounced back with a net worth for over $10 million, with his shares valued for approximately $58.07 million...
“I would rather work 80 hours a week to make 50k and work for myself, than have a 100,000$ job working for somebody else.” Not enough people have this mentality.
Unless someone already has a scholarship database with an API, I don’t see how any algorithm can possibly keep over 20k scholarship details updated when the website for each one has the info formatted completely different from every other website. The 2 developer cofounders should have been there to field questions from mark and Robert the tech sharks.
Chris is right. All the existing lock boxes companies have to do is change their process so that the person buying the home can access the keys without a realtor. And they can just keep the existing boxes they currently use.

Think of it as going all in on the first round of poker, before the deck is even dealt. you have 40% odds of winning considering they partnered up.
Good analogy
Go Leafs!
I believe they both smart.. Mark and Robert are just pained that they won the partnership over them
The deck was dealt. 92,000 downloads, Two web developers , 20,000 + scholarships in the data base and 1.3 million in proof of concept. Sounds like a dealt deck to me.
2 partners doesn’t bring it up from 20 to 40%
Scholly guy was walking down the streets in the night alone and was being followed. It was Barbara, and she said, "You didn't answer Mark and Robert questions, and for that reason, I'm out!"
😂
For the last one I definitely see both sides of the argument. Some of them want to know how the app works and updates while Lori and Daymond felt like they knew enough to invest in it because they’ll be able to find the hiccups when they come along and I think both the ideas are valid
Nah Lori and daymond had no valid argument they were being bitches to the other sharks by pressuring him into doing a deal. They didn't even know how it worked how is that fair to the other sharks and even themselves

I think Kevin was right in the end. They should’ve offered him more than 40k. It’s the tech space. They choked him out on that number because they were just trying to scoop him up before the other offered him anything. Everybody was going to make an offer to him.
yup
Lol at Lori pressing Kevin's eject button!
Kevin instantly wins the second he says “I didn’t see any of you put a DIME in it”
The other sharks can squabble but at the end of the day, it’s the money that talks.
Wrong try again Mr Potato.
I'm not gonna reiterate what the guy above me said, but nah.

@@bobalbert4907 How is it still in business when the actual website has 2 products and they've both been unavailable to purchase for a long time now? The social media is also down and not active. He also does not promote it on his own freaking page, it's closed.
She was being cutthroat 😂
The way the sharks AND the Toor guy all jumped on Chris’s head LMFAO.
Chris was not wrong about the key lock thing... All they need to do with the already existing ones have remote access. Which would be a security risk tbh. I don't know how this company handled the security risks, like against the flipper device
The funny part is that Chris was right. Toor went out of business almost immediately after the pitch.

Such a quick google shows you're 100% wrong.
did some googling, and scholly is apparently doing really really well and still going. so yeah, Lori and Daymond made the right call.
As a software dev I can say the third business is a nightmare of an idea. Mark and Robert are absolutely right. They should've let him explain the algorithm.
They made money of the investment regardless
the maintenance was horrible to hear. The idea is profitable, but the execution is just poor.

You can have a brilliant product but it will most likely never get big.
Yes he was. They’re estimated to be worth about a million dollars, maybe they make 100-150k on that. Thats awesome for themselves as a small buisness it just isnt INVESTABLE.

It isn’t for everyone. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Peace of mind is worth far more to me than profit.
