I swear this is such an underrated channel
I built this PG in two Days..... to perfection. This was my first perfect grade.
Now imma build the PG GP01/Fb!
Im impressed by how patient you detail the parts first before finally snapping them together, never had a PG This gave me a glimpse on how to build one
So much better than all the formulaic gunpla channels that are just sped up snipping and building. I love this so so much more.
Seeing this after building the PGU. It is awesome to see how far the kits have come. Great paint job on the interior frame on this.
If anyone is wonderering how to do the LEDS

Old PG's will always have a place in my heart just because I lusted after them as a kid and have certain flare to them that newer PG seem to have forgotten.
Nick Graham was it the infuriating screws and wire?
RB_unit 02 screws aren't that bad though the lighting gimmick could have been better but isn't impossible.
Then the pg exit came :D
Just ordered mine, with the wing-0 of being my first pg..
First jump into gunpla was for my birthday..
I got pgwi g-0, mg zeta 1.0, and mg gp-01fb..
This pg will be a much more well done kit as I've had a lot more exp since then lol..
Anyway the vids are great for reference and informative
Please do another PG, this video is awesome, your review is crystal clear, love it !!
I dig that during the build process, the background music is that of old Toonami promos, as THAT is where most people in the west discovered the Gundam franchise (Yes, I know that the dubs of the compilation films, 0080 and 0083 came out before Toonami aired New Mobile Report Gundam Wing and the Original series).
Hadn’t built a kit in over 12 years but saw him appear in the film ready player one and just bought 4 rx78 kits. This one is coming in 2 days. I built a MG 3.0. And have a special edition origins on the way from japan. No gundam is more bad ass than this guy. Blocky and all.
I was always skeptical about PGs but damn that internal frame is beautiful to look at. Might get an Exia one day :']
the inner frame of the exia is far more sturdy and has way better articulation with no polycaps
goatzsx from what I hear it’s like 2 decades newer too
I love this kind of build video
Its long but so satisfying and fun to watch
Ix1998 #relatable
Sanding helps to loosen stuff. :D I recall sanding those vent sides. Also worked on the bob cannons on the G Guntank.
This is super satisfying to watch!
Superb reviews..I watch from part 1 until 8..your reviews have influenced me to get this kit. Keep reviewing...Bravo!!
"Nothing good can ever come from staying with normal people."
Well done and looks great for 20 years old.
Time is a huge factor. Had a choice between master grade on sale and hobby grade. Went with Hobby grade cause I liked building a new gundam and the time that I have now.
Bunnerrsss!! The bunny at the end was so cute!!!🐰🐰🐰 great job on this video Citrus! I like how smooth you are with your editing!
言葉がわからなくても綺麗に上手に作っていて自分も作ってみたくなりました!
I love MG and PG kits. PG are super fun to do but really time consuming. I usually do them here and there in between some HGs or on a rainy day. I get to into them to do it on a work night. Lol. Wish i had the monwy to buy them like i do HGs and RGs but the wife only lets me get 1 a month of its not crazy expensive lol but of course it takes me a week and some change to fully complete one so its not so bad. But they are worth the money. You feel like your building a car lol
Holy hell this kit has a shit ton more detail and frame detail than I ever imagined since it’s so old.. wow 😳 I am thinking about the PG unleashed but it’s quite expensive.
Hell of a job on this one Cit, pat yourself on the peel
After 2mins watching your review i decided to watch the whole doration and ended up epicly hit the subscribe botton💪🏼 🙏
20代の頃、PGにハマって集中的に作った時期を思い出します。1stガンダム・マークⅡのメカディテールとオープンハッチは圧巻でした。ザク以外でジオン系のPG化を求む!
Watching this never gets old,
22:36 *my head* "nice, he got it attached and WHOA DONT TIP!"
I like that you got some toonami music in this video! 💪🏾I'm looking to get one PG into my collection and the RX-78-2 is the cheapest option, but I feel like I built enough RX-78s already lol (MG and 3 different HGs)
Incredible video! It's a shame you think your paintwork isn't up to snuff because it totally is, I can see the care you took with the "large expanses of dark grey"; you nailed your colors across the boards
Woah! Watching you building a PG is so satisfying and healing! I wouldn't want to try building one of those though...
Wow!!! What a Incredibly detailed kit..Great video 👍
I just got my PG grandpa in the mail, you have been extremely helpful in even deciding to get it
Not the granda
@@NSixtyFour how is this thing not the grandpa of all gundams?
this is my dream PG actually . I really want RX78 as my only PG :(
I love mine. Have it next to my pg Char Zaku II. They look great together. The new PG ver 2.0 is coming out soon.
There's a remastered one coming out in december this year
Its called pg unleashed, its destined to be the greatest gunpla of all time
@@gabesam1145 yeah im definetely get that new one , looks so damn good , Saving up money for that one
Late 90's and early millennium Toonami music
"Just keep running away?! ...I'm not running."
nice touch with the toonami music i noticed too
When I'm doing metallic paints I use a flat black primer it really does make it stand out. Just thought you might like that.
That is a great tip. I'll have to pick some up!
That intro music alone got you a Iike
Jeez i finally found a gundam pg build from this year
Keep in mind that the kit was released/made in 1998, pretty impressive huh? Yeah it stunned me too, a kit over a few hundred years old, still in *perfect* shape, this *perfect grade* is truly *perfect*
nah
redo your math on that one
Just finished my GP01. This RX78-2 definitely better inner frame. Maybe will consider a conversion GK works on this frame. Great video BTW.
Thank you! That's surprising. I expected the GP01 to be better since it's newer.
You began working on this kit on my birthday
First I thought it is a commisioned, there should be a lot going on, then it just put together like a normal user will do( no seamless or paint), of course, the detail gold paint touch looks nice, but you get commision for this? Man you are one lucky dude XDD PG is a wonderful kit everyone should at least try one.
I agree. I would have thought a commissioned build would at least have some advanced painting, but this looks like it's just done with markers.
Yeh. Can't believe someone offer commision for a straight build with some minor paint job. But we wouldn't be having this video otherwise.
@@UnitedStates. Why would anyone commission someone, even someone as popular as this channel for a straight-up PG build is beyond me. Such a waste of enjoyment in my opinion.
Hello, thanks for all the reviews and tips. Are planning to review the rx-78 unleashed? Thanks for future updates
Luca
Clicked for the RX build, stayed for the baller soundtrack
Even though it’s a bit expensive, I neeeed this for my collection! It’s so... intricate....
3 months and still haven’t bought it... it’s coming.
For a less time consuming yet effective bare plastic effect. Cover it with acrylic varnish allow to try then add mig engine grease or starship filth then rub off. Then allow to dry. Then varnish again. This saves painting it all but gives it a non stock used grimey look.
This was really useful, especially the head section, thank you
Been holding off on buying this one since I’m worried Bandai will suddenly release a PG origin Rx-78. Really tempted now
Winarendra Rajasa... doooo eeeeet!! LoL. Its a fantastic kit. I actually own three. One ive been building for almost 10 years now because i think i damaged a bunch of its parts if i recall properly. One to be turned into an RX-79 [G] and one to replace the first failed model. Either way, if they release a new sculpt with better detail, it will be fun to add to the collection right beside the old sculpt.
What's PG origin rx-78?
PG = Perfect Grade.
"Origin" refers to a manga called Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin.
They revamped the story of Gundam a bit in the Origin manga. The way the anime version of origin is set up so that it's a prequel to the original Gundam anime series (1979) and NOT a retelling of the original anime series. They did six OVA episodes based on the 23-volume Origin manga. The manga itself is MUCH longer and did retell/refashion the original Gundam story a bit. They were NEVER going to adapt the entire Origin manga into a TV story so basically concentrated on the basic story of Char and the Zabi family. The Origin anime basically tells you how Casval Diekun became the man known as Char Aznable.
The Origin manga redesigned several of the iconic Gundam mecha to conform better to later Gundam designs. The RX-78-2 in the Gundam Origin manga looks less blocky than the original 1979 anime model of the RX-78 and more like the RX-78 GP01 in the 1991 Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory OVA series. As you can see from the Gundam mark series, the RX-78-2 and RX-78 GP01 are technically supposed to be in the same family of mobile suit as is the RX-78-NT Christina MacKenzie operated in Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. "Technically" the same production series but with very different control/sensor set-ups. The NT and GP01 feature much more sophisticated equipment than Amuro Ray's RX-78-2 which still had field modifications (mainly to make it more maneuverable and responsive to Amuro's control inputs) but lacked the panaromic cockpit sensors the NT and GP01 sub-families had.
The PG Origin RX-78-2 is just prettier-looking than the 1979 design, period -- at least to most people's sensibilities.
The PG RX-78-2 built in this video is allegedly higher-quality model kit but as the uploader commented, some of these production runs have issues with casting and parts being warped or having excess plastic from the casting.
The gist of the video is that it took him far longer to build this kit because of all the issues he had to correct before he could even paint and assemble it!
There are just some model kits that have a reputation for being a challenge to finish and "accuratize" because of issues with casting and poor part fitting.
I've seen giant polycaps and think this thing's gonna become an early real grade
they need to bring back this style of inner frame + hatches with more modern proportions and armor detail. i'd much rather have that than a christmas tree that will break the bank.
Tokio true man, leds are stupid. They limit the pg posability
although they did bring it back with the pg exia and they also had the leds too, I'd say its the best of both worlds
You know... you don't HAVE to purchase the LED's.
i agree
Your talking about that PG exia right? Or the PG unicorn?
24:29 Did anyone else notice the Outlaw Star music here?
Wow I remember this kit! I got the PG wing gundam in 2001.. Time flys
Playing it again got you a Share.
Do you think putting some clear colored paint over the eye and head cameras would weaken the LED's light?
Wow! Great editing! I bet it took as much time to edit the video as to build the kit.
I find the most difficult part and what takes the most time is finding the parts. If you can someone to find the part and you do the build, it would probably be a lot faster.
You have great taste in background music!
Very good video, it’s like my own building
Great. Now I want one when I still have PG Strike and MG Nu Ver.Ka waiting to be built...
*when i saw this at the toy store*
Me: dad, can we buy that
Dad: we mustn't waste our money for that
Me on my head: then why did my sis get an ipad
Dad: ItS A tOy, GrOW uP.
Le me: *triggered*
@@8113689j i would get the top post of reddit's r/wooosh
@@8113689j also, would you rather have blurry vision or numb hands?
reply: Fuck you dad.... i can afford to buy it on my own...
No lie that happened with me years ago but it was american girl dolls for my sisters. I got a $10 no grade heavy arms and i knew their dolls were over $100 a piece lol
Question. So I just order this off of Amazon and will be waiting a couple of weeks. I was wondering if the paint detail you have to do yourself is important. Because I only did 3 1/144 MG gundams and 1 1/60 MG gundam.
I really hope we can see a 2.0 of this one day like we got with the MG.
biaza MG is got 3.0 version of this. It’s been very enjoy of doing that.
I'm think that the springs in the legs are for absorbing the forces created when the Gundam takes a step or lands.
Good, time for the full armored gundam PG
The completed RX 78 2 without opening the armor, has a very similar detail level to the MG GN 002 Dyanmes, interesting to see how far the lines between grades has blurred
The black rabbit at the end 😆
This aint no toy, it's art
I've been considering an rx 78-2 or an rx 178 aeug ver for a display piece. Which one should I buy?
do you have to cut each of the parts like all other kits?
unbelievable, this product about twenty years ago
Well, it was actually the first perfect grade for GUNDAMS. The first perfect grade was actually the Eva Unit 01 from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Yeah, I’m a nerd.
SpiderWick yep
Happy 20th, Grandpa!
Does this require any painting/cutting of any kind? Really wanna get into building gundams but i dont know anything about building them
Painting is not required, but you do have to cut the parts from the runners with some nippers. You can also clean up the nub marks left by the nippers with a hobby knife and sanding stick if you want the parts to look really clean. It's not hard at all, but you can learn more advanced and difficult techniques later on. I recommend picking up a HG RX-78-2 kit for around $12 online. Its the perfect kit to start with. But im going to warn you now it's a very addicting hobby. I've been building them a little over a year and I've already spent well over $1k.
Awesome review! Bought this PG kit a few years back......28 MG kits in. Its time ......let's do this!
25:49 i think you'll love the new PGU
Hope so, but it'll be a while before I can get a PGU
Hello sir , i want to know, what paint did u use for the detailing? Like the gold, silver, and red metallic? Thank you :)
After watching this great review and build pg rx-78-2 i think i will make my pg now haha 😁
This is one big boi
That action base, or what is it, you use to spin your models on it. What is it and where can I buy one.
すげー( ゚д゚)綺麗にできてる!
......wha?
Subarashii Gunpla robot
あ!日本人!外人さんがガンダム知ってるのに驚いた。
What paint did you use? Nice build.
この動画を観てPG買ってしまった…
Please forgive my ignorance but for those who have the figure, is the cockpit of the 1:60 scale PG RX-78 Gundam figure also true 1:60 scale meaning it will fit 1:60 scale pilots from Diaclone Corps??
Thanks for making these videos. I just wanted to correct you on a tiny detail. Mandarake is pronounced Man-da-ra-ké. Keep up the great work.
Thank you!
... But just to correct you, MANDARAKE (stylized in Romaji as まんだらけ) is gairaigo (外来語) from the English word "mandrake," so technically the Western pronunciation is correct.
EDIT: And I realize that arguing about semantics is always a lose-lose, but this kind of stuff just bugs me. I really do appreciate your support, though! Please don't get wrong the impression.
Citrus good to know! Reminds me of the first time I visited a mandarake, and I instinctually called it "mandrake". It wasn't till I got back to the hotel when I saw the bag, noticed the extra "a", and remembered that Japanese people enunciate the vowels we would consider "silent". Anyways, thanks for the factoid. 👍
Sorry im new, but the part when you glue, is it a must to glue it ? Or it will also stick if not using glue ?
You don't have to glue. It helps things hold together better.
@@citrusjuicebox ohh, i see. Thank you !!
@@citrusjuicebox can i know what glue are you using ?
@@F4NCY_ Super glue.
20:57 Hey it’s a core gundam
*Mecha Gaikotsu Wants To Know Your Location*
good thing i decided for pg exia lighting model instead of rx 78-2 for my first pg kit
I'm dying to get my first PG but I'm still trying to decide what to get! Were the LEDs in the Exia easy to put in? I'm stuck between the Exia or the Unicorn but the LEDs scare me since I dunno how they go in
the core fighter itself looks so dope! wow
What kind of glue did you use on the polycaps for the armor pieces that move?
I have and use Tamiya extra thin glue but don't want it to dissolve the polycap
Super glue.
Just bought the PG, took me an hour to build just the right arm.
That’s not even long tho lol how long did he take in total? I’m assuming your done now ya?
I built the PG Astray recently, the legs took forever probably 5 hours. It was also my first so i was careful
I’m curious to know, does it come with the prerequisite screws or do you have to buy them yourself? I’ve been planning on getting a PG Seven Sword Exia so I’m kind of scared of getting one if I have to get screws myself.
Any necessary screws are always included.
@@citrusjuicebox Ah that's reassuring to know. Thanks dude

いいね👍
It's really old design from now so it's OK the cockpit can't be rotated.
何をしゃべってるのかはさっぱり分かりませんがPGはやはりいいな。
Beautiful model and how great it is
Fellow collector finished PG RX-78-2 in 2 1/2 days but zero painting just panel lining & my kit came with waterslide decals??? I thought the decals where traditional stickers on this kit?
Anyways turned out fantastic when the weather warms up gonna will breakdown and dull coat armor. What's up with the two springs in the legs with T post? Come on man so glad Bandai doesn't do this anymore LOL
It was supposed to be accurate to the mechanical design, but it really doesn't make much sense.
@@citrusjuicebox It reminds me of a pogo stick. I built this one out of my tremendous respect for the RX-78-2 as having built the MG 3.0 & Origin also like you owning the Fix Figuration basically paying tribute. Again did your kit come with waterslides? Mine did but of course the kit being so old the waterslides were kind of defective so I had to carefully peal off dunk in water and apply was VERY TEDIOUS!!!! Quick question for you I already panel lined........would I be able to lightly dull coat when things warm up at say 2 feet distance and or will this make the panel lining run?
@@8474Starscream Mine came with normal stickers. I usually spray closer, but I think it's more important that your paints are compatible. I haven't heard of top coat ruining panel lines before though.
@@citrusjuicebox Yeah I was pretty stoked when mine came with waterslide decals probably a much later run on this kit. 10-4 I also usually hit up about 10-12" out.........use the Testors rattle cans
Have you seen ready player one?
Does all the gears and what not come pre painted
Lyle Harvey no, he did it himself
wow i love this gundam i can't wait to buy this gundam
Which RX78 has the rotating seat for the cockpit?
The newer MGs all do.
@@citrusjuicebox Can you post an amazon link please?
I'ma getting this one on Saturday is it hard to built it and what about the instructions is it hard to under Stand it or it has an English to it
Nice Gundam. What scale is it
