This was the unique showcase that was Petrolheadonism Underground 2024! I found a perfect way of avoiding the mayor's ridiculous ULEZ scheme and discussed legalities around the subject. I later walked around the show to see how the scheme really affected it this year!

The money goes towards TFL running public transport... If everyone stops driving there's not enough money for public transport and public transport can't handle that many people.
They're not trying to stop people driving, it has nothing to do with cleaning the air, it's just a revenue generating scheme. Even parking is based on engine size/emissions now, when you're parked, not moving, not creating any emissions.

Same with my RX8 and my old TT 3.2. For some reason both of those are ulez compliant... a car that barely gets 17mpg. Logic?

i'm restoring a 350sl v8 Mercedes , it is going to be my daily driver into London , exempt of tax and mot .

Yep, I mentioned this whilst on the stage at the show. I'd rather give my money to someone actually doing a job than to line the government's pockets for a scheme that shouldn't exist.

@@AdamC3046 The money raised by ULEZ is spent on public infrastructure projects like more bus routes and cycles lanes. Its much better than banning fuel burning cars outright.
It's virtually the same thing!! £12.50 is a ridiculous amount. It's got nothing to do with the environment and is a blatant money grabbing exercise to pay for Khan's previous mis-management. @BenExell

I like ULEZ - I've got a 400+bhp gas guzzling modern diesel - that's fully ULEZ complient - no fees for me.

yeah, they found they can make a lot of revenue with the ULEZ zone, so they decided to make more by expanding it. In the future they will expand it further so they can make even more. Eventually they will expand the ULEZ zone until they can make everyone pay to drive their car every day regardless of how close to a city they are and it will cost everyone 3k lbs every year for everyone to simply get around on top of all the other fees and taxes they have to pay to keep their vehicles on the road in the first place.
Ulez will be gone in a couple of years, replaced by pay per mile 😢
Charging you money for NOT having a modern car is an absolute classic prank to play on people who most likely can't afford one or the ULEZ charge.
I’m fortunate enough (well, unfortunate really but fortunate in terms of ulez) to be a wheelchair user so I get to drive my 2006, 3.6L twin turbo diesel guzzler around London at no extra cost 😝

There were simply no tests before 2006. So even if your car complies, you will be discriminated against and unfairly fined.
I wonder how many days thousands of drivers would need to protest for the older cars to be exempt?
There can't be that many older cars built before the test started so why not exempt them until they are scrapped?

After japfest, me and my dad left in our g35, and the traffic was horrendous and google maps decided to take us into London and me and him completely forgot, we went on one slip road next to London and it got us, £90 fine just for going on one road.

Correct. Anti -ULEZ has become a cult. In the next few years, most non-compliant vehicles will be scrapped anyway. Then the cameras will revert to catching stolen and uninsured cars only.
Up here in Scotland you don't get a daily charge its just a £60 fine

As I understand the law a vehicle on a trailer only need to display the towing vehicles number plate.
Noise cameras next. Its a joke, the motorist is an easy target & a straight up wallet dip for these authirities; its Gov' over reach & legalised theft.

It's an offence to obscure your plates in any way and you should only get a reprieve if they are dirty.

I've been looking into this a bit as I want to buy a ULEZ compliant E46 and it seems if the engine met the emission standards already despite not being euro4 (because it didn't exist yet) then it still passes. I know doing this can be quite difficult on an individual vehicle basis though so my best guess is some manufacturers had certain models passed (perhaps if they were still building them?) when euro4 was introduced. It's all a bit weird but I guess if TFL say it's ok then it's ok :)
My motorcycle is euro 3 compliant but I have to pay the same as a car every time I visit London

Isn't that quite good though, slowly the classics we all like will be compliant (40 year rolling window), furthermore my 2001 mr2 is compliant. At the end of the day it really isn't that big of a deal, London has no good driving roads anyway, the best ones are in wales and Scotland, sucks if you live there and want to daily an older car I guess though
@@henri988 Yeah, I never have driven in London, and don't intend to. My Land Rover IIa, VW T2 and MG Midget are all exempt. The Landy isn't allowed in the Channel Tunnel, though, as it runs on LPG (but that's another moot point.)

They can’t do anything to you if you don’t pay. They can only fine/arrest you if you commit a crime, and driving a car isn’t a crime as otherwise nearly everyone in the UK would be facing a fine/jail time.
There’s literally NO crime it would come under. It won’t be reckless driving, since you aren’t driving like a maniac. They can’t do you for trespassing, since you’re on public land, and they also can do you for driving an illegal vehicle, since your vehicle has plates which means it’s legally registered and thus road legal.
It'll be covered over the same laws as not paying a parking ticket (unpaid bills etc).

ULEZ and CCA, or CAZ charges are just tolls. They're absolutely nothing to do with environmentalism and more to do with propping up a bankrupt TfL and or City/Metropolitan councils who can't manage money properly.
To fix a pot hole, they have to have 5-6 committee meetings with "advisors" (their friends in companies/trade unions/NGOs, you name it) before it will even go to the planning stage for a road repair (like resurfacing). Good man, and I applaud you.
There are unjust laws in this country and no man should follow, an unjust law. It was law to report Jewish people in NSDAP Germany, no one in their right mind would say that is a "just" law. Same goes here in the UK for attacks on liberty and freedom.

The parcel tape made me cringe a bit going on, and a lot coming off! It's very tacky and not designed to come off cleanly (who cares about a cardboard box). You need some masking or painters tape. Good to just have in your garage anyway. I use it for all sorts of car jobs.

The number plates on your vehicle must:
- be made from a reflective material (not sure the front stick on one is?)
- be marked to show who supplied the number plate
- be marked with a British Standard number - this is ‘BS AU 145e’ for plates fitted after 1 September 2021
Don't think front or rear have either.
Also I think nowadays the text under the number with the white chaser catchphrase might be a grey area as that's where the manufacturer deets go. But man, you know you're running show plates as a lot do. Is what it is, just more red tape BS to make our cool cars less so lol.
Again though just a silly throw away comment, not trying to be negative just had some run ins with PC plod for plates in the past and was recently made aware of change from 2021 with them needing the ugly British Standard number in right bottom corner.

Ok so you say road tax already exist. Would you rather 10x road tax for everyone for the polluting vehicles or only tax people when they actually drive their car and pollute. Also ULEZ applies to tourists as well compared to road tax.
ULEZ keeps old polluting cars on the road and outside London which if you live in London is great because you can afford the charge or you can afford a newer car
Also most people don’t understand the whole emissions problem. CO2 emissions is mostly affects climate change. The euro emissions standard addresses emissions that affect public health.
So a 300g/km euro 6 diesel is a a lot worse for the planet compared to a 100g/km euro 4 diesel but a lot better for the local air quality and everyone’s health
I can guarantee there are plenty who live in the new ULEZ area who cannot afford the charge or afford a new car. It's barbaric to expect that everyone suddenly can.

The powers of Tesla and the like are at fault, the emissions are in built up areas, where people are getting unwell and shorter life expectancy, such as the young girl that died a few years ago due to pollution and her asthma, if that was the issue with pollution... as it is ..and was...the inner city delivery vehicles, taxi, and lorries should all be electric vehicles, instead of diesel, the common car user was never at fault, electric car manufacturer have failed to do the right job in the first place and so is any government or even green protests for instance should have known what they where on about in the first place....it's like bikes with loud exhausts, funny cause the trail of cars and trucks that drive by slowly are the ones more likely to kill you !
