you're awesome. only after watching this did i realize i was doing learning how to pump wrong. your way i feel a bit more stabilized and have better control.
I was able to watch this before my skate session this morning, and got to try your techniques in a great big bowl. WOW...!! What an amazing difference! I had heard about the four pumps idea, but couldn't really picture it, or get comfortable with it until saw your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! That big bowl is much less terrifying to get out of now!
Tried this today and wow what a difference! I used to do two pumps and wonder why I couldnt gain enough speed or momentum to at least reach the coping but now with the four pump method, its achievable :)
Just wanted to come back and say thank you for this video! I’d seen so many videos on how to pump and was struggling to build momentum until I found yours - the detail you give with your explanations helped it all click and I’m now able to reach the coping with considerably less effort!! Your videos feel like mini private lessons and I’m so thankful to have found them 🤠❤️
This was absolutely phenomenal! The way you teach is so clear and easy to follow compared to others, I always look out for your videos when I need help
THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH I WATCHED THIS VIDEO LAST NIGHT AND DROPPED IN TODAY ON PIPE! I did what you said and started on the ones without pipe and i practiced my stance AND I DID IT!
i came into your channel today when i found your carving tutorial and have been watching a couple of videos, I really love how easily you explain something and also you are velly skilled and talented. thank you very much!! instant subscription
Love your tutorials! Clear and easy to understand. I will try this one as soon as I get a chance. The bloopers on this one made me 😂 😂😂 Thank you for sharing your tips! 🙏👋
I went to a metal mini ramp today (it's the closest to an actual halfpipe I've been able to find), and I was trying to work on getting that pump while going fakie up the ramp and back down. I get a good pump going forward up and then down. I'm still struggling with figuring out how that fakie pump is supposed to feel. Going forward, I get that good crunch and push to go backward. But going backward to forward, where does the power come from? Does that question even make sense? Thank you for your super informative series. I've benefited a lot from it.
Sorry for the delayed response. I thought I replied to this but I think my reply disappeared 🤷🏻♀️ Whenever you're going backwards/ fakie you want to pump through your toes and whenever you are going forwards you are pumping more through you're heels. For me when going fakie up the ramp, it kind of feels like I scoop my hips backwards up the ramp and then going forwards I scoop down the ramp, pushing through my heels. Hopefully that make sense.
hi. when u say to have dominant foot forward, do you mean like, if I'm right-handed and my right hand is strongest, that I would have my right foot forward? I've never tried pumping.
It is whatever foot is most comfortable for you in a staggered stance. I'm right-handed but my dominate foot for park skating is left. But for pumping, especially if you are beginning your journey, is to learn to pump with left and right leading as it will make tricks easier later down the track.
I’d like to ask about pumping even larger ramps. I don’t seem to be able to pump any higher than 7-8 feet up. Especially if I’m hopping 180 and not pumping fakie. I hear things like “pump harder” or “pump longer” but I think people use the term “pump” differently because I do feel like I’m pumping as hard as I can. I should be able to do this. I need your clear explanation on how to break past the 8 foot height barrier. Can you help? Thank you 🙏🏼
It's hard to give specific advice without a visual as it could be a number of things. Can you DM on IG with some footage or you can email it to me at shortstop.crdl@gmail.com?
It's hard to tell without footage, but you might be tipping your upper body too forwards over your toes. You want your chest up, knee bent and butt down. Feel free to DM me some video on Instagram and I can have a look. @shortstop.6
Hey. When do you pump? I wait for the point where the vertical part of the ramp starts to change into the horizontal, but I struggle to get enough power transfer to air above the coping. When you where on the Vert ramp it looked like you where pumping when still on the vertical part. Will that's give me more of a pump?
When I am on the flat and looking to go up the transition/ramp (forwards or backwards) I will squat and load my legs before I reach the beginning of the transition so I can "pump" into the transition. Ie The pump will happen as I go from horizontal into the vertical. And then when I go from the top of the ramp back down (forwards or backwards) I do the same. I squat before I reach the transition so can "pump" when the vertical starts to turn into the horizontal. I hope that makes sense. I plan on doing a air the coping tutorial soon so that may help. Or you can hit me up on IG: @shortstop.6 with some video and I can see if I can help you with any tips.
Hey, thank you for your video :) I have a question. I have very gummy wheels on my skates, because I've skate a lot on the streets. Can anyone explain me detailed what the negatives are on skating ramps with gummy wheels? Thanx :)
Gummy/ soft wheels are ok to do basic park skating but because they are soft it means they will be slow on ramps as they grip more. I don't recommend gummy wheels for sliding as they cause wheel bite. My favourite park wheels are the Bont Flow wheels. If you are just just getting into park skating then the Street Flow are good choice. amzn.to/3hVKjrj
Is it both feet or mainly the back foot? You could check your trucks but if you don't feel unstable going forward then it probably has more to do with you stance. Can you send me footage via my IG: @shortstop.6 so I can have a look?
About how far down do you sit into it when you swing backwards? I have a tendency to either sit too much and then promptly crash, or not sit enough and just wobble weird. It looks like when you go forwards to the coping you're basically sitting in a chair in the air, is it about the same but backwards??
I am wearing Bont Flow wheels in this video, they are 58mm x 32mm and 99a durometer. I use these wheels if I want more speed or slide. But for everyday skating, I use 89a Street Flow wheels. bont.com/collections/roller-skate-wheels/products/flow-roller-skate-wheel
What happens when’s your dominant leg changes when going backwards 🥴. Going forwards my dominant leg is my right but when going backwards it’s my left .
You might need to keep you body axis more perpendicular to the bank angle. Feel free to send me some footage to my Instagram @shortystop.6 and I can have a look
I’ve now found out why I have such a hard time, I’m doing a 180 turn around and not going backwards 🤦🏾♀️ and we all know that turning will slow you down
i watched to many tutorials how to skate in ramp and only u said properly: pump 4 times. And the MAIN thing, that u should up toes and heels when u passing the edge, the pipe) i always falling when i hit coping...
pumping a ramp Is like relaxing you're body End flexing it. you know when people try to lift you up its more difficult when but when you flex its easier that is why murders Berry there bodies in thier garden because the body is to havy
Your tip of putting your hands on your back hip in fakie really helped me with my stance rolling backwards 3:02 👍🏻
Great to hear! My friend Keven taught me that trick

Thank you for the awesome pumping on the ramp tutorial video. Include the videographer in video , curious to know...lol😂
Thanks! I did in the description, it was my friend Rebecca Souw
Wow - the four pump technique on the big and small pipe (?) was so helpful! I only thought there were two pumps. Thanks Shorty!
You are so welcome!

Thank you sm!! Your tutorial was really helpful. I’d love to see a tutorial you made on dropping in❤️
Ok, I'll look to do drop in and fakie drop in, in more detail.
EXCELLENT tutorial! Thank you so much for posting this!
Glad it was helpful!
Best one so far. Much love!
Thank you!
Right, I’m going to try this every day for a week.
You got this!
I like your videos :) I would love to see a video on your skate setup and why you choose those specific specs!
Thanks for the idea! I will do that.
Love your tutorials! Clear and easy to understand.

@@ShortysSkateSeries went to a halfpipe today, yes definitely very helpful, lots of progress as made :). This video made it simple.
@@blazejpietras2638 That's great to hear!
Thanx shorty
You’re welcome 😊
Great video!!! Definitely make more :) you make it so clear, I can’t wait to get on the ramp :) thanks!

I tend to fall forwards when I skate up a quarter pipe or (mini) ramp or any transition onwards basically. Any tips?

Thank you! Why haven’t I been lifting my toe or heels on the mini ramp?!
I didn't realise until I saw the footage, I do it so automatically. 😅
Whenever I'm pumping backwards my skates tend to start swerving, does that have to do with my stance or should I tighten my trucks
Is it both feet or mainly the back foot? You could check your trucks but if you don't feel unstable going forward then it probably has more to do with you stance. Can you send me footage via my IG: @shortstop.6 so I can have a look?

It's all personal preference. Do what is most comfortable for you.
My local park doesnt have a ramp. It has a bank and i tried to do this but i kept falling

You can 180 but you just need to pump up and pump down the transition. Check out my carving tutorial for tips.

You need to lift your toes or heels so that the wheels don't bump into the coping but will roll over, even if you don't have enough momentum to stall
oh money ! how many ?
I can't remember but it wasn't a lot 🤣
