    Pressly goes through an entire character arc in 3 paragraphs. And it is a very moving story.
    That's some good writing.

  • @HonorThyGamer

    In regards to Pressly, it's always good to remember that people have the capacity to change for better or worse. In his case he was exposed to the other races he was prejudiced against and learned that they're really not so different. Exposure is one of the most effective, and unfortunately slowest, ways of removing prejudice from the world.

    • @brandonatchison4769
      @brandonatchison4769 11 місяців тому +19

      I think it's also important to remember the context. Before the start of the game, there was the First Contact War and The Skyllian Blitz and a lot of Alliance staff probably either fought in or had relatives who fought in those wars. So it's understandable that Pressly would be suspicious of other races. I think there's two types of prejudice: prejudice born out of ignorance and prejudice from having a negative experiance. Pressly probably had both.

      Trust me on this, as a 20 year Navy veteran, who was on the first U.S. Navy aircraft carrier to allow a Russian helo to land on board, it is a very weird feeling to have people on your ship that should not be there. So believe this...Pressly and Ashley having reservations about Aliens onboard, is something the entire crew would have agreed with. This was a human military ship, not a pleasure cruise. No ship in any of the other races' fleets had a diverse crew either. What Shepard was doing was unique and special. Not even the Merc forces were as diverse.

    This is something you'll hear a lot in the weeks to come but leave Arrival till the very end, like after the game ending. It kinda serves as a ME3 prologe

    You don't have to probe every planet (just doing rich/good ones should get you more than enough resources). But at least scan every planet, a lot of side missions will only pop up when you do. Really appreciate you reading the lore too, you know how much I love all of it so I'm really glad to see it

    • @Raivo_K
      @Raivo_K 11 місяців тому +3

      Indeed. You could deplete every planet but depleting only Rich planets will be enough for all upgrades. Activating the scanner is still a good idea for every planet in case there's Anomaly that ends up being N7 side mission. These are short, unique missions that can be completed whenever.

    I would recommend going to Omega next, there's quite a few things to do there and it's a good place to really get started. Also, in regards to scanning, my recommendation would be to scan every planet as you go. I usually just go for the bigger spikes and stop when the planet is down to moderate or poor, you don't have to get it all the way down to depleted every time. You'll also pick up side missions when scanning certain planets.

    • @AlexSmith_Rhysand
      @AlexSmith_Rhysand 11 місяців тому +5

      I agree with everything you said. Omega was designed to give the player a proper introduction to ME2 so doing it first is a great way to get comfortable with the game and also get a few emotional wins under your belt before venturing out into the galaxy.

    • @TeeZee22
      @TeeZee22 11 місяців тому +4

      @@AlexSmith_Rhysand I agree also. She's got so many people trying to backseat drive her game and telling her weird orders to recruit team members. That's fine for a replay. On her first playthrough, the best place to start is Omega, like the game tells you to do. Then go on from there with missions as she sees fit. All she needed to know from the start was to avoid the Reaper IFF mission as long as possible. Hold off on Jack's Loyalty mission for a while. And also some of the info about which order to do some of the DLC stuff.
      People mean well, but sometimes it's just too much info and causes paralysis from analysis. She's smart and figures things out pretty well on her own.

    •  11 місяців тому +3

      @@TeeZee22Agree. Omega is where the game „ignites“ and gives you a direction and a understanding how things will go. It makes no sense to leave it out as long as possible and play all the small sidequests and DLC stuff before because there is simply no context to everything, there is no crew, no story and the game feels lifeless. The natural way to play it (as intended by the developers) is: first get all your squadmates, then a mixture of loyalty missions, sidequests and dlc and then the rest.

    The Overlord and Firewalker side-missions are DLC. Overlord might be my favourite side-mission in the game. You might want to wait until you have more crew memebers for that mission because some characters might have unique diologue. Also I mentioned this in the last video, but the Citadel and Omega are good places to go to first.

    Zaeed and Kasumi are DLC character's. You can pick them up at any time. Overlord, Arrival and Shadow Broker is long DLC missions. Arrival should you wait with until the end of the game. Overlord and Shadow broker dosen't really matter. But Arrival and Shadow Broker DLC will open up mid to late game. So don't think about that right now. Just pick up your squadmates and do some loyalty missions. Maybe some of the minor assignments to.

    Probe as much as you need to, upgrading the Normandy is important, ask companions for upgrades. Make sure to do the Arrival DLC after the main story, as it leads into the beginning of ME3. Also a heads up: talking to the Illusive man will usually throw you into a main mission.

    Your crying is a strength. Jim Valvano was a college basketball coach. He started the V Foundation that has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for cancer research. Near the end of his fight against cancer he made a speech in which he talked about living to the fullest. He said you should try to do 3 things everyday. You should laugh, spend time in thought, and have your emotions moved to tears. If you laugh, think, and cry every day. That's a good day. Most people have trouble moving their emotions to tears. You are in touch with yours.

    Hi Lite! So about probing planets for resources: don’t feel obligated to get every little bit from every planet because it can take a long time.
    When I played for the first time, I spent WAY too much time collecting every single resource and had TONS of it left over after getting all of the upgrades. A safe bet would be to look for the biggest scanner spikes and get those, and leave the smaller scanner spikes unless you really need them for a certain upgrade! That can help save time and probes in the long run!
    Loving this series so far! 😄

    Hiya BEST channel ever! :) Here goes your TIPS, summed up: 0: We want to see YOU reacting, so have emotions, cry, laugh, hold nothing back ;)
    1st DLC crew: Master Thief+Veteran (side missions are there to use your extended pool of crew) Advised 2nd: Professor, Archangel.
    2: Just have a little patience and faith about (some of) your old crew. You have to meet, befriend new people first. Now just immerse, you might love most of them!
    3: DLCs: Normandy crash (1st), Firewalker (early), Overlord (later), *Lair of Shadow Broker (Mid or late game)
    4: Folks are right: Avoid DLC *Arrival/Rescue Dr Kenson at all costs, saved for the absolute last mission. BIG spoilers there, it leads to ME3 !!!
    5: 'Stop Collectors' line = like 'Stop Saren' mission line. If you see any "Reaper IFF", avoid, delay as far as you feel have done all you wanted (do early = your playthru might be ruined...)
    6: Until keeping a ratio around ~ 90-10% / 80-20% (main) paragon OR renegade, you should be fine. (50-50% or neutral = severe punishment)
    7: Barrier: It is your Biotic Charge now, the close combat action version of it (+melee+shotgun).
    8: Scanning: You can do them off-screen. It is enough to drop 1-3 probe per planet, only collecting the rich spikes (or as many as you wish).
    *Marked: The game will try to launch/force these upon you, but don't bend, only do them if you want!
    Good luck, have fun, I enjoy your best channel so much! :)

    Upgrading the Normandy should definitely be done as soon as possible.
    Also, I would suggest waiting until much later in the game to do Overlord until you have all squadmates.

    Seeing as you weren’t able to read any of the comments on the previous video I thought I might just repost this here. Just a couple of tips to help you see everything Mass Effect 2 has to offer. This game and ME3 have some fairly unforgiving cut off points for missions so I’d advise doing all the side quests you want before advancing the main mission. The exception to this are the crew recruitment missions and DLC missions. Crew quests are technically main missions but they just get you a new crew mate, DLC missions can be done whenever even after the main game is completed.
    Also talk to everyone even more than you did in the first game. Every squad mate in this game has their own unique mission after you talk to them enough, like Garrus and Wrex did in the first game. These quests are some of the best written in the entire series and completing them gets your squad mates a new power so you definitely don’t want to miss these missions. And if you needed any more incentive to talk to crew, now they can actually give you upgrades for the Normandy as well. So don’t skimp on the chatty chatty :)
    Best of luck with your playthrough Liteweight! I’m excited to see how you do things!

    GETTING THE WARLORD FIRST. (I'm the one who told Lite to do this.)
    Remember how things change slightly when you bring Liara with you to Noveria in ME1 because of her connection with Benezia? The same kind of thing happens - several times - when you take "The Warlord" and "The Veteran" with you to get "Archangel", and then take "Archangel" and "The Warlord" with you to get "The Professor". Judging by the comments, it seems most people here didn't know about this; which is exciting! If she does this order, that means all of you will get to experience this for the first time as well! 😁
    So again Lite: "The Convict" moves the plot forward. Therefore, if you want to tackle the Assignments first, you can still recruit all the others as well. Since "The Professor" is who you need to start upgrading, doing the 3 recruitment Missions right away, in the order that ENDS with "The Professor", is what I recommend. Here they are again:
    3 MISSIONS
    1. Get "The Warlord"
    2. Get "The Veteran" (Not a Mission. You just grab him.)
    3. Take "The Warlord" and "The Veteran" to get "Archangel"
    4. Take "Archangel" and "The Warlord" to get "The Professor" - (The game will make it seem like this is a bad idea, but I PROMISE! There are absolutely no negative consequences whatsoever, and I think what happens during the Mission because of this is well worth it. 👍🏼)
    This is what gets you those unique dialogue moments and cutscenes you won't get otherwise; just like with Liara on Noveria. After that, the order really doesn't matter, except saving "The Convict" for last, IF you want to get all the Assignments done first. This isn't like Virmire, however. I mean, there is a Virmire situation, but that comes WAY later, and I'm not going to speak on that, since you've already been told (and will continue to be told) about the order of operations near the end of the game. 😉
    Now let me be clear! You of course don't have to it this way. Just like with ME1, there's really no "right" way to play. Given how enamored you are with the lore, I just want to be sure you're able to see all of it (or at least as much of it as possible). Also, especially since you're...not super jazzed about recruiting all new people at this point, the added context you get with these characters, by recruiting them in this order, might help endear them to you early on.
    5:38 - The answer is...a F%#*TON! Well, it really depends on the planet, but by now, I think you've realized that. People have given REALLY good advice about probing in the comments, so I'll just add this: Don't waste probes on sections that aren't making the mineral scanner go wild. You notice how there's an extra sound when you've hit a REALLY good vein? That's what you should be going for. Going for the smaller points wastes money; which is important because it's much harder to get filthy rich in this game than it was in ME1. 😛

      I appreciate your passion for this, but… isn’t the less complex, go-where-ya-feel-like style kinda more suited to a first time experience? Idk, a game about having choices, and trying to guide a person during an extremely specific path in their first playthrough of said game about choices… idk mate

    • @Tubemansi
      @Tubemansi 11 місяців тому

      @@romo_lampkin The thing is, the game itself makes it seem like there is no choice, by having everyone go "You should get to Omega and find the doctor right away." It's far more linear than in Mass Effect 1, where they don't tie rescuing Liara to getting an aspect of gameplay unlocked. I feel my recommendation is opening up the choices, by showing there's more to see than the game lets on at the beginning. The reason I told her of this was because she appreciated, in the first game, whenever comments directed her toward content she missed or away from outcomes that would lock her out of content. She's also expressed appreciation for others who have told her (without spoilers I assume) of the order in which to do things at the end of the game so as to...well you know. Because we're watching a UA-cam playthrough, more content for everyone - player and audience - is always better. This is why I want her to experience what she (and many others) otherwise wouldn't, so that we can all experience it together. As I say though, it's still up to her. She has all the information now, and I'll support whatever she chooses to do with it.

    The thief and the veteran are the two dlc companions, but there is no need to get them first, i mean, you can if you want, but there is no rush. Apart from that, you can recruit them in the order you want, but is true that the game indicates you that the normal order is going after the professor first.

    The game is more explicit in telling you points of no return and whats important then the first one, so I wouldn't worry as much and follow your interest. Personally I don't believe that there has to be a certain order of missions for maximum fun/effect/narrative sense, but "knowing" you I'd recommend building up your team before doing anything, at the least to the point where you have a squad that you at least somewhat like.
    That way you get dragged a bit more into the story and you don't feel like you're traveling with the (former) enemy. I fear if you do the side missions first every video will end in you being sad about your crew and later on you'd 100% be sad to not have had your new favorit crew members on the missions that you've already done.
    I liked the video, you're the first person that I watched scanning instead of skipping it :D
    Hope your IRL sorts itself out and that you're doing well. Wish you all the best 🙏

    Some things:
    • DON’T RUN OUT OF FUEL--if you run out of fuel, you use all of your resources to take you back to the closest fuel depot, and you can’t get those resources back (learned that the hard way)
    • regarding scanning for resources, I don’t think there is a max amount of any one resource.
    • here is how much you need of each resource to get all the upgrades/etc.: Element Zero (35,000), Platinum (242,500), Iridium (312,500), Palladium (255,000).
    • I’m pretty sure that if you scan/mine all of the planets in all of the Star systems in the Omega Nebula, and maybe another nebula, you’ll have enough resources
    • once you’ve depleted a planet/moon of its resources, you’re done with it, pretty sure the resources don’t respawn
    • recommend going to Omega to get the Professor/scientist after Kasumi so you can access the tech labs and get upgrades (talk to each of your squadmates, they each provide you with an upgrade, after you get access to the tech labs)

    Mass Effect 2 has an emphasis on teamwork. Using multiple biotic effects to create explosions and taking out multiple enemies at once, or effects. It works best if you actually chose what effect your teamate uses instead of letting the game decide, it also does more damage. A singularity and then concussive shot combo will do alot of damage. Incinerate and concussive strip shields or life from mechs.

    For the scaning mini-game (that I hate but somewhat necessary),
    I would advice to check the planet level of ressources : moderate amount are kinda pointless. Abundant/rich planet have so much more, if you reach moderate it is in my opinion a waste of time.
    I would also advice to only scan for the highest spikes to avoid sending hundreds of probes
    To give an example your first scans on a moderate planet was around 1000-3000 for platinum, the second one with high spike was more around 15000-30000 per probe.
    A few scan (3-4) for rich/abundant is enough to buy most things if not all.

    I would advise recruiting multiple squadmates (perhaps starting with those available on Omega) before completing any more side quests. One of ME2's greatest strengths is the sheer number of allies you get to recruit to your cause and you'll probably want to have some options for who you want to deploy on missions beyond just Jacob and Miranda.

    I'd strongly recommend going to Omega for the next main mission. You can get 3 squadmates there and it gives you a good introduction to a lot of things, there's a reason the game specifically says to go there first.
    Idk what order you were told to do but getting the Warlord first makes no sense imo, story-wise I'd say Veteran- Professor- Archangel- Thief- Warlord- Convict is the most logical order. You won't get locked out of anything though, starting at the Citadel is perfectly fine but my advice is definitely Omega after that.

It's really cool what happens in each of those circumstances. Similar to what happens if you take Liara to Noveria in ME1. Ever since I discovered it, Warlord -> Veteran -> Archangel -> Professor is the ONLY way I do it, every time. 😛
