She is a Beauty , such a good candidate for a total restoration , not a rat rod , or hot rod , keep her all original , keep the integrity she was built with . Not many of these old girls around anymore .
My neighbor had the same car in green, drove it till '65 then it sat till '92 when the old man passed his grandson put a battery and fresh gas and in about a hour it was running and driving, had the dynoflow automatic transmission,,was completely original and I believe he still has the car to this day! Btw it was always garage kept, thanks for sharing Jay and keep up the great singing, such a talented young man and as always "Howdy from Texas 😃"!!
Could work wonders on that 50 would be a pleasure to see this cruising down the road again . As I'm looking at it , I can see it finished and polished up just ready to roll , they just don't make them like this anymore . Long gone are the days of the long sweeping curves and classic styling . You don't know how lucky you are , still having your american automotive heritage from these eras that still survive and can be found . . Keep finding and saving the classics jay . Top man . .
I’m no singer, my voice is a little too low and raspy for what I tried here. But you give me some roger miller or The oak ridge boys and I can nail it !
Wow, I'd bet she was a beauty back in her day!!! It's from a time when cars were works of art made in the USA and the workers took pride in what they assembled.
Straight 8 for the win! That is one mean looking vehicle, especially in black. Big, low and menacing - the definition of presence. I love the hood ornament - could very much see myself smoking around in that. Looking forward to the power wash video!
My dad owned a service station when I was in Jr high school and high school. We had an older woman who was a regular customer. She came in every week and bought $2 worth of regular gas (about 6 gallons). It was also a 1950 Buick straight 8. She always wanted EVERYTHING checked, every week. Engine oil, radiator, battery, tires (including the spare), and of course we always washed the windows. The battery on this behemoth of chrome and thick steel automotive heavyness was under a steel cover that was bolted down covering the battery. You needed a half inch wrench to remove the cover. That required going inside the service bay to get the half inch wrench. It took a lot of time and effort to earn a few cents from a couple of bucks of gas. One day she came in and old Tom McGuire waited on her. She asked for everything to be checked. Old Tom was checking everything and she was watching him through the gap between the open hood and the bottom of the windshield. He didn't check the battery, and she knew it. He closed the hood and walked to the open window to get her $2. She asked if he had checked the battery. He replied, "Yes I did, and it's still there!" She never came back!
Pretty cool! I just finished working on a 1952 Beechcraft C35 Bonanza, it is flying from Arkansas to Michigan today. It is crazy how little aircraft have changed since then vs how MUCH cars have! Each door on this old Buick could make about 4 Hyundais. The people have gone mad out there.
That good looking thing, is older than I am, and that there is quite an achievement lovely Buick. For someone with some capital, and knowledge, she will come back to life like new.
My grandfather had that same car when he was dating my grandmother. It was also the same color. I have an old photo of him posing with the car. He used to tell me that it was his favorite car to drive and own.
There is a 53 Buick special in the local junkyard by me in SE Wisconsin all pretty much complete, has an A/C unit that mounts up in the rear of the car. Really interesting when you think all the places it's been and how it once was some family's only transportation maybe multiple families.
What a beautiful car! We need a follow up video for sure. Glad to see that things are staying fairly peaceful over there, here in Cleveland Ohio where I live we had rioters who basically destroyed our entire city, burning down buildings and setting random peoples cars on fire as well as police cars. It was rough.
My father owned a green 1950 Buick Special. I don't remember any technical details, because I was only a little tyke at the time. I do remember dad being quite proud of the car. I asked him why he used "Turtle Wax" on the car. He kidded that all green cars are the same color as turtles, so they had to have that kind of wax. He drove that old Special until 1960, when he traded it in for a '61 LeSabre.
That's a beautiful gem! I'm sure she remembers all the crazy stuff that happened in 1964... Anyway, those white walls are so nice! Cold War Motors would approve 👍 Stay strong!
WOW!! What a beautiful car. At one time that looks like it had a beautiful interior. That's an excellent car to fix up. There's not a whole lot missing, so you've got something to work with. Good luck.
It's rough & nice at the same time. It's a rat rod in the making: str8, glasspacks, wide whites - & a solid floor. This answers the question: "Wouldn't you really rather have a #Buick?" I say yes! If I was to touch it, I'd end up buying it. :)
Man just a nice buff and detail and I think she's road ready... Might have to go flinstone style with your feet on the asphalt but going down the road is going down the road!
Love that body style. Good luck with it. BTW, contrary to popular belief the song wasn't written about a 1959 Buick. It was for the Model 59 as Buick used to give them names and model numbers. The song was released in 1954. Impressed that you knew the song.
That's gonna clean up ver' nice! I love the way those engines purr! I first discovered the Buick and the Packard Inline 8 through the Coldwarmotors channel. Such awesome lookin' and sounding engines!
Brilliant post. Great car, lots of not so good things going on in the world at the moment, hope your all staying safe. We're all missing Tim the flannel man though!
This has to be the best car I’ve ever seen you get your hands on. I hope you can keep it and fix it up. I hope you don’t just patch the floor. I hope you would install a new floor panel. I see guys doing it on 50s models all the time so you should be able to get one. Don’t let this beauty pass thru your hands. Good luck y’all 👍👍
Back when your head hit the dash and your head give, not the dash. It really deserves a bath and a bunch of welders going to town on those floorboards. It wouldn't take two full days with some bead rollers and some mig welders a going at it and the rig would have floors. Go to the wrecking yard and find a boat with bigger seats and pull those covers and make those seats, seats again. I bet money it runs.I bet cleaned up it would pull a few dollars as well. I would head over to that wrecking yard and find bits of good floors and cut them out and patch that up with a few overlaps of course. I believe that the missing hub cap can be found too
It is a 1950 Buick Special(3 potholes) 4 door topedo(fastback) sedans w/a 263 cid inline 8 124 hp but a lot of torque about 232 ft lbs 3 column shift...standard paint w/a two tone interior....I assume...the engine is whispering quiet.. very rare! Those things are tough.. drop the whole car and take off the hubcaps...great patina
A straight-8 Buick in factory black, that's a seriously sinister car. Do you have many retired Mafia hit men in your area?... At least it didn't come with its original body...
This might be acceptable if it gets cleaned and polished. You don't really need to buy factory floor boards. You could make them from flats steel sheet. If the engine is OK after waking it up and all the electrics are working and put some seat covers on it. It might look good enough to drive around and not need to be towed home. There is a certain look to "original cars' that have been cleaned up and made dependable and left that way.
I've got a 1950 Buick that my grand dad had , we had it running and drove for a day or two and my son parked it in a shed. Floors not to good, body fair but the paint is peeling off. Not For Sale.
In high school I read a Stephen King Book called "From A Buick Eight". I only read it because it mentioned the Buick. It was interesting but not very good. I think the subject of the book was a '53 or '54 Buick that would transport people to another dimension!
Jay, you keep yourself safe up there, if they start rioting. It looked like they were going to try and burn us down, here in Jacksonville, fl. Btw, love the car
Absolutely love it! I'm a big fan of 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s cars. 1950 was the only year for the severely-bucktoothed grille. I believe this is a Series 40 Special. What model is this??? Did Buick make just one model in 1950, named Buick Straight Eight?
@@donjones4719 this model was a Roadmaster sedan, they had several models, like Super, Riviera, and even stationwagons all were great styling 👍

What a beautiful car ... Please restore it original... Absolutely love that straight eight....Love the way they sounds

Oh, when I was working in Atlanta in 1996 I came so close to buying one of these! Shipping it back to the UK would have been the problem though.
Haven't even watched the video yet, but a straight 8 anything is cool. Oh man I do love the old engines.

Wow Mr. Jay has been cheerful lately !
A 1950 buick was my grandfathers first brand new car he ever bought. Two months after he bought the buick he got drafted into the army.
I love the '49 thru '52ish GM fast back body style. With the '49 Cad being the best!
I'd get her running and daily drive it every day.
I’d totally mob around in this

Buick was a masterpiece of American engineering!!
When Buick was actually something...
Honestly Buicks always seemed a lot more dependable than other GM products.

When I saw the front end it reminded me of the book cover photo of Stephen Kings "A Buick 8" (hardcover edition)
Same here. I’ve been waiting for a movie of that book.
I thought I accidentally clicked on an old music video at first. Great singing Jay.
Ohh come on now. Don’t lie haha
Hell yes all the glass is there too. Love it. Somebody is gonna scoop it up quick. Fine resto candidate.
