Hello, first off love the videos! Very informative. I do have a question. The only monitor I show incomplete is Cat on my OBD reader . I tried method from one of your other videos with keeping the RPM's constant at 3000 for 3 mins but does not seem to do the trick. I still have an incomplete cat. I do have a p0421 code. What is the best way to get the Cat monitor to Ready? Should I try the Cataclean method? Or will it never go away until I resolve the p0421 code? Car is a 2008 Mazda 6. Thanks in advance!
You have to resolve the p421 code or at least to able to keep the car from detecting long enough to set the monitor. I would try cataclean but if you a some tools I would clean the catalytic converter using the direct method of spraying through the o2 sensor hole. I hate to say it but sometimes you just to buy a new catalytic converter but I've only had to do once out of 7000+ cars I have purchased.

I have a 2003 Subaru Forester and I’m having trouble getting my CAT monitor to clear to be ready to smog. I’ve driven it a ton of miles but still not ready. Someone suggested changing the 02 sensor . Could changing it allow the CAT monitor to read ready? Any suggestions are much appreciated!

You will have to clear the drive cycle as it may take longer for the check engine light to clear itself if the ecu (engine control module or unit) think the issue has been fixed. After clearing you will need to find a permanent fix ( the only permanent fix a new catalyst) or find a temporary fix ( like I show on this playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLDEbtVOPRC-h1BAzaWQ-6NSnmG0gwvgwP.html ) The whole playlist is dedicated just to incomplete catalyst monitors. I have a V6 accord and recently just replaced both cats. I'm at over 200 miles since resetting the CEL but only the O2, O2 Heater, and EGR are ready. EVAP and Catalyst are still showing not ready. Any idea why?

My reader is an innovative 3100. I have a diesel, my reader has the 'C' monitor (catalyst) flashing, meaning not ready. I wasn't aware they had catalytic converters on diesels.....
Yes, if you reset the check engine light all of your monitors will become incomplete. You need to handle the p0172 first. Here are the different possible reasons why you’re getting the engine code P0172: Contaminated engine oil (too long since the last oil change) A leaking fuel injector Excessive fuel pressure due to restriction along the fuel return line or a faulty fuel pressure regulator A saturated carbon canister due to packing the fuel tank. Clogged air filter Restrictions somewhere in the air intake system Clogging due to buildup or physical damage in these exhaust components: catalytic converter, exhaust pipe, and muffler Faulty O2 sensor (but O2 sensors more commonly fail by reading lean, not rich). Exhaust leak (upstream of the O2 sensor, a leak will allow oxygen to enter the exhaust stream, and this will typically throw the opposite code rather than a P0172) Problems with other sensors (e.g., coolant temperature sensor, mass airflow sensor) Circuit issues, such as loose connections and damaged wiring Issues with the PCM, such as software in need of an update

Hey my car have pcd, and have pending codes of P0420 and P0430, if i clear the codes and drive as what the youtube told, will i pass? EVAP not ready and monitor catalyst not ready
If you have permanent diagnostic code ( pdc ), even if you clear the check engine light your vehicle will have clear the pdc before it will run certain monitors. You will not pass. What are you driving?
I have a 2003 Subaru Forester and I’m having trouble getting my CAT monitor to clear to be ready to smog. I’ve driven it a ton of miles but still not ready. Someone suggested changing the 02 sensor . Could changing it allow the CAT monitor to read ready? Any suggestions are much appreciated!
Gabe, I will have a video for your Subaru by the end of the month. Each make can have different paraments.
For a 2017 Ford escape SV code P0420
Here is the ford drive cycle ua-cam.com/video/j8ZFTE1rSfA/v-deo.htmlsi=s-bVrCiJkc-xveU
Please watch and the look in the video description for the incomplete catalyst playlist.
04 matrix . only my cat I m is not completing ?? I have a p0420 pending. Will the catalyst i m still complete???
You will have to clear the drive cycle as it may take longer for the check engine light to clear itself if the ecu (engine control module or unit) think the issue has been fixed. After clearing you will need to find a permanent fix ( the only permanent fix a new catalyst) or find a temporary fix ( like I show on this playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLDEbtVOPRC-h1BAzaWQ-6NSnmG0gwvgwP.html )
The whole playlist is dedicated just to incomplete catalyst monitors.
Let me know if you have any other issues and keep me in the loop. I would personally try a temporary fix like the 3k trick that I show on the videos in the playlist and then work my way around to a fuel additive. When your registration is due again the next few years the you can decide what to do then. Good luck
If I install fooler will my catalyst im still complete for smog check????
I haven’t tried the fooler method but did have success with mil eliminator on a ford mustang but there are no longer sold on the open market. I purchased from American muscle.
Here are the simplest ways to fix a p420 code ua-cam.com/play/PLDEbtVOPRC-h1BAzaWQ-6NSnmG0gwvgwP.html
Will cleaning my 02 sensors will help My cat to complete?
It could help if your o2 sensor is cause a lazy reading on the down stream but now you are just guessing. Why do you suspect the o2 sensor?
my 2005 nissan altima didn’t pass .
catalyst : not ready
Evan: not ready
O2 send: not ready
would driving at 55 for some miles help me pass inspection????

Would u recommend to swap some new spark plugs on or use the ones already in the car? Would it help out the process?
No it doesn't
yes it can certainly help especially if your old spark plugs are loose/not gapped correctly
Sorry for the late reply! did you find a solution?
Just followed your advice and worked like a charm!
Thanks a whole bunch, man!!!
Glad to help.
I have a V6 accord and recently just replaced both cats. I'm at over 200 miles since resetting the CEL but only the O2, O2 Heater, and EGR are ready. EVAP and Catalyst are still showing not ready. Any idea why?
Who "likes" a comment that is a direct question about a specific issue?
My guess, they have the same issue.
U ever get it to read
Sorry for the late reply! did you find a solution?
Can you pass with only 1 monitor unset and that monitor being the catalyst monitor?
It varies from state to state but if the vehicle is 96 to 99 you have one unset monitor. For 2000 and never only the EVAP is except. What is the make of your vehicle?
My reader is an innovative 3100. I have a diesel, my reader has the 'C' monitor (catalyst) flashing, meaning not ready. I wasn't aware they had catalytic converters on diesels.....
Yeah the diesel have catalyst and last I heard a 2007+ diesel can have 2 monitors that can be incomplete but it's always changing
Ive done everything and its still not ready... I wonder if there is a cheat around it.
so sorry for the late reply, did you get it fixed?
Question if all my system monitors are ready but i have the p0172 code if i reset or desconect the battery my monitors will be inclomplete?
Yes, if you reset the check engine light all of your monitors will become incomplete. You need to handle the p0172 first.
Here are the different possible reasons why you’re getting the engine code P0172:
Contaminated engine oil (too long since the last oil change)
A leaking fuel injector
Excessive fuel pressure due to restriction along the fuel return line or a faulty fuel pressure regulator
A saturated carbon canister due to packing the fuel tank.
Clogged air filter
Restrictions somewhere in the air intake system
Clogging due to buildup or physical damage in these exhaust components: catalytic converter, exhaust pipe, and muffler
Faulty O2 sensor (but O2 sensors more commonly fail by reading lean, not rich).
Exhaust leak (upstream of the O2 sensor, a leak will allow oxygen to enter the exhaust stream, and this will typically throw the opposite code rather than a P0172)
Problems with other sensors (e.g., coolant temperature sensor, mass airflow sensor)
Circuit issues, such as loose connections and damaged wiring
Issues with the PCM, such as software in need of an update
Hi do you know what it means when it says 'Cat N/A'?
Na means it does not apply to the vehicle
What if there is no pending codes but the Catalyst Monitor is still not ready? What next? I drove for 101 miles. Thanks,
Louis, you have to keep driving until your get the Catalyst to set in most states. Di you ever get the monitor to set? if you still need help, let me know I made video each make for the drive cycle process. Thanks
@@RANDOMFIX Yes the Catalyst did set, I just had to drive it more. Thanks
@@RANDOMFIX I live in PA and emissions is a must pass for inspection. I put Kata clean, unplugged the battery overnight for 12 hrs. And driven the car over 50 miles and still the 02 and Cat are not ready. I have no codes at all and no check engine is on. I need to pass inspection but the monitors are not ready....why?
@@LordCommandordid you ever find a solution?
@@anonymousxx2791 I just kept driving until my O2 finally went ready. And last July and I was able to pass my inspection with six out of seven monitors ready. Thanks for asking.
I have a 2009 bmw 328i e90 and it shows HCAT not ready with a p2096 code
Everything else ready
Any help?
Juan check the BMW drive cycle in the video description for an exact drive cycle.
I have replaced cats with aftermarket cats and it's taking very long time to set catalyst monitor any suggestions
I appreciate your constructive comments, thank you for the feedback!
So how long should i drive after using that cati clean ??
You want have much range as you are only supposed to a little gas in the vehicle. Around 4 gallons. You don't want to dilute it to much.
Are you familiarise with p1093 bmw need help
here are the possible causes, low fuel pressure- did you check the fuel pressure?
Large vacuum leak on engine-
Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
Faulty Ignition
Faulty fuel injector
What are you experiencing?
@@RANDOMFIX thanks for the reply I got it fixed I had large vaccum some where between egr and vcg no more code thank for your help
Good to hear you got it handled.
@@RANDOMFIX ps I've also replaced my cats with an aftermarket part I had both 420 and 430 all good pass emissions in ct
Nice, is it driving better?
How often does the catalyst monitor run a diagnostic?
It's probably vehicle make dependant.
@@RANDOMFIX I have a 98 Tacoma. Monitor inc also.
Here is the drive cycle ua-cam.com/video/EKfEr2LP2Nw/v-deo.html
Is the catalytic converter original?
@@RANDOMFIX I believe it is original. I haven't changed it since I bought.
Watch the Toyota drive cycle video for some tips but ultimately the catalytic converter will sometime just has too be replaced. Maybe you can still make it pass for a few more years. I have a whole playlist about catalyst and some tips
ua-cam.com/play/PLDEbtVOPRC-h1BAzaWQ-6NSnmG0gwvgwP.html
But again the only real solution is a new catalyst.
My 02 sensor code is ready my cat and evap is red2002. Nissan maxima
Focus on the catalyst. The evap might exempt is your state.
Getting a P0421 code on a 2008 Mazda 6. Will clearing code, completing a proper drive cycle help pass smog test?
Yes, clear the code, wait for the morning and complete a drive cycle. It's worth a try. If not successful check out my complete smog list and I have a few simple temporary solutions. _Randomfix
Very good video man thanks! Good job
Glad you liked it!
Battery had died.96 accord. I've done the cycle 3 times. 150 miles I have everything reading but cat. No codes.
Sorry for the late reply, hope you got the issue handled, if not here is the video for you honda. ua-cam.com/video/oZELvZ4danA/v-deo.html
This is so frustrating..
Yes, this whole process is confusing and stressful. I have made a whole emission / smog test play list that covers the whole process from start to finish in 6.7 miles. If you can find the video just let me and I can send you the link. Best of luck and let me know how it goes.
What about a Permanent code. P0420 permanent code???
Please address having a PERMANENT code.

went back to have monitors checked and now its throwing pending codes have no idea what that means.

In order to pass emissions test, you must drive a lot of extra miles at a high rate of gas usage... So emissions law is designed to maximize fossil fuel pollution. Lol
