Siouxsie and the Banshees wasnt a goth band, because there wasnt goth yet. They also were not an alternative band, because there wasnt alternative yet. They didnt fit into punk rock, or anything really. They sort of birthed both the goth and alternative scenes, as you would only ever hear them on cassettes or on very hip college radio stations back in the day
There was Alternative early '80s; meant not 'trendy' /mainstream chart: the good stuff! Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Danielle Dax, Joy Division, Gun Club, Violent Femmes, Spear of Destiny, The Cure, New Model Army, Southern Death Cult, Cramps- 'college radio' is american? At record fairs 'Banshees'd be under 'New Wave /Post Punk', which seemed to cover everything that wasn't Barbara Streisand / Billy Joel.
@@dragontantra Really doubt she cares, 'Banshees never claimed to be 'Goth'; it's just a lazy media tag 'cos onlookers like labels, makes it easier to slag off others. If someone enjoys 'Goth' in whatever form *Good for them,* life's too short for music snobbery & if bitter spectators choose to be 'disgusted', so be it.
Some fans criticized them for changing their sound on this record, but it's kind of cool, it shows how they diversified and were not happy with keeping the same sound. This is the sign of a great band!
Every artist needs to make at least one commercially viable album in their lives, if they intend to actually make a living at this business. She at least did so openly, and without overly compromising her style.
Saw them on the first ever Lollapalooza. She came out in the later afternoon. Everyone sort of gravitated towards the stage slowly as if to worship her. It was simply unbelievable.

I remember watching the video for this song back in 1991. The woman with beautiful eyes, dark hair, and pale skin captivated me and I've been a fan ever since.
@funkmasterjee - this is why those bars across the back of semi trailers became mandatory. (not necessarily because of Mansfield's accident, but just these types of collisions in general)
This song is about Lt. Olivia Benson's beautiful and divoon mother! The "kiss them for me" even refers to Mariska Hargitay and her 4 siblings. RIP Jayne Mansfield
Kiss Them For Me is actually a film Mansfield was in. She's talking about her fans, that she'll never let them down, and to kiss for her those who are waiting for her in New Orleans should she be delayed. It's a song about death and the way any of us can go at any time.
to think she would sample one of the most recognizable Hip Hop breakbeats of all time. Oh Yeah...I'm A fan. fun fact... This famous Hip Hop breakbeat was made on a Roland TR-909
Richard Butler was great in the 80's. I got my 1st job at KCFL radio Station Centenary college. My first song live on the Radio I played was?? So i went to the rec ord store with my first $100 check and bought all the police albums for the Radio station and played The police around 10pm we went off the air at 11pm.

Late summer of '91. I'm 27, driving my black Benz coupe down Sunset Blvd, listening to Siouxsie on KXLU Loyola-Marymount College radio. I'm in heaven, and painfully aware there will never be another moment like this.

i just got out of a 3 year-long depression. as weird as it sounds, i forgot what happiness feels like. i get surprised when i find myself smiling! i'm still trying to find my way through this new normal of recovering from trauma. depression felt almost like a wall that blocked me from experiencing things and doing what i loved to do, and sometimes i try to build that wall whenever i'm having a bad day or when i feel weak. i've found that the wall is not that hard to build. but, whenever i listen to this song, everything feels just right. this song makes me excited to live a beautiful life, not matter how hard life gets. also, ignore my username i'm being serious i swear.
I am reading Riley Sager's novel "Survive The Night" and it mentions this song. I never heard of this song before or the group. At first listen I was like, is this sampling who I think it is?! I am being consumer of this music you speak of, is it not the most appealing of many audible inputs?
Oddly heard this track for the first time this year...
A mix tape was left at my house with this song on it. I didn't return it.
Running Up that Hill got a huge comeback ... no reason why this tune shouldn't.
As I dance in my basement trying not to brood over coronavirus, I realize again how healing Siouxsie's voice can be. God bless you, Ms. Sioux.
Existentially "cool" without even trying (older gens will recall Miles just bring Miles. Period).
Yes exactly 💯 !!!!!!
Who gives a flying f about c virus dude enjoy life.
I interviewed Siouxsie and her band in LA 1991. Very talented and wild!
That must have been a blast!
Get that interview to any media that you can!
Really
I actually got a kiss from Siouxsie in 1999 at Palace in Hollywood.
I was at that show at the palace
Luckkkkky
You got a kiss from her back in 1999?
That's fucking cool. How long were you able to resist your newfound thirst for blood after that?
Sweet!
This song gets better with age. I enjoy songs that withstand the test of time.
So much more than a goth band.
Thank you!!! So much more than "Goth." I'm pretty sure Siouxsie herself is also disgusted of what "Goth" has become.

Kiss them for me, I may be delayed
Kiss them for me if I am delayed
It's divoon, oh it's serene
In the fountains pink champagne
Someone carving their devotion
In the heart-shaped pool of fame
"Nothing or no one will ever
Make me let you down"
Kiss them for me, I may be delayed
Kiss, kiss them for me, I may find myself delayed
On the road to New Orleans

The forbidden candles beamed
