I love your passion for your trees. I never knew there were so many varieties. 7 years ago a neighbor gave me a baby avocado tree which I planted by just digging a hole in my back yard in Florida and dropping it in. I wish I had started it off better but the tree has grown well and last year budded for the first time but lost them all. This year the tree is covered in little an avocados and I’m getting really excited as they grow bigger by the day. I wish I knew what kind of tree it is and curious when the an avocados will be mature .
They will take at least eight months from the time of flowering then you can pick one and wait two weeks and see if it becomes good to eat and if it does not then wait another two weeks and pick another one until you figure it out
I also would be trippin out with all of those avocado trees around me. I also am obsesst with the trees and fruit. Would love to visit Cali. We have few quality avos in FL. But not like there.
The first joke: An ORNAMENTAL 😳? 🤣 😂. Sorry. I love your videos and your knowledge. As hard as it is for me to get enough of the chosen variety of fruit, the thought of nurturing it’s ornamental value never really crossed my mind. But I guess you do have a point, Gary.
Yup these babies are difficult to grow, and when successful are then robbed by rats, raccoons, possums, squirrels, and gophers. Then there is the sun and wind that try to destroy.
If I sent some photos of our tree (already mature when we bought the house) do you think you could ID it? We’ve been through two springs with great flowering and a very small number of sets that dropped the first year. The second year we had a late cold snap that hit the avocado and our citrus so no fruit. I planted a Bacon just now so I won’t have fruit from it for a year or so but fingers crossed my mature tree is an A. 50/50 coin flip with a slight skew to A because I think it’s a Pinkerton after your video and comparing to nursery trees. Also this is in Sacramento
With the hot temps in your area, I can see that you spray your trees. Is that Surround? How often do you spray and do you find it very helpful in terms of protecting your trees from those high temps and blazing sun?
Hey I’m curious we got a major snow storm and I ordered an 100$ plant it arrives or should on Friday, making it 4 days. But with snow not being plowed we’re stuck here until the county can open the road. And then the mail lady could take 1 week to come up for to melt to comfortably come up. Will a week and a half kill my plant? It’s a del rio
