The song is “I Say No” from the Heathers(west end) musical!
I found the West End version of heathers around the same time Moonkitti posted her video on why Bramble is awful. Heard this song and instantly Squirrelflight came to mind.

Perhaps by wanting to write abusive characters, writers still end up writing characters they want people to understand, but by writing a real personality for Bramblestar, they created a real person, an abusive one at that.
It makes me wonder if one of the writers was in an abusive relationship and if they think that's what love is.

Honest there's been multiple characters who gave horrible love interest choices. Like for example Dovewing has Bumblestripe or Tiger(heart)star. Erin Hunters have stated that Tiger(heart)star sees her as an object, and while I didn't see it the first time I read the books but Bumblestripe is being forceful to get in a relationship with her.
Yes, but they said that when they were still writing Omens of the Stars so it could've changed later on in the other serries that came afterward.
@@dogsandcatsrule3856 i feel like, if at all, Tigerheart was only like that at first. In Tigerheart's shadow, he was shown to truly love her - and, like, the book is in his POV, meaning it's his true thoughts.

Wish we could get a scene like this in canon. This is GORGEOUS and it makes my heart swell. Squirrelflight has such a strong character that is dimmed down by Bramblestar every time they interact. She stands up for herself, is bold, is decisive, passionate. This animatic and its flawless execution really shows what Squirrelflight needs and how her character really is.
If only this could be in the books-

This song fits so well! Especially when it said, “blame your childhood, blame your dad, blame the life you never had. But hurting people, that’s your choice” Bramble has had a rough life, but that doesn’t give him any excuse to hurt Squirrel or anybody else, it doesn’t justify that for anyone. I love the style and all the emotion, this animatic is sooo good! You’ve really outdone yourself, I hope u keep creating more awesome stuff like this 😊😄

Bramblestar may have apologized Squirrelflight's hope, but the way he did it raises red flags. "we shouldn't have let things get so bad", is what he said to Squirrelflightafter she came back to life. He used the word "we", and didn't even acknowledge his cruel behavior and put them both at equal fault as though Squirrelflight is somehow as bad as him. She is not.
She definitively is, if not worse. She’s just female and fans remove her from all her responsibilities for their relationship. She is just as bossy, hard headed, and emotionally manipulative as people accuse him of being. For him though they label him as abusive, for her, it’s “empowering” and “free spirited”

And regardless, he has power over her and always has, and if he uses his power to treat her like a child if she doesn't stay quiet and obedient then the relationship is not healthy

That's what I'm asking.
This. Is. AMAZINGGG!! And it illustrates Squirrelflight as a character so well! Not only does the artstyle flow so well and look so appealing, it's a very powerful message, one that I wish the series would stand to address. Sometimes relationships don't work out, sometimes people can't be fixed, and that's not your fault; you look out for YOURSELF. Who knows; maybe they'll come back actually changed, or maybe they never will see the light. But it's not your responsibility and you don't owe them anything anyway, especially after they hurt you. Even if they do change, it's your choice to be together with them again.
The Erins, of course, will never realize what they've made Bramblestar into, and will never do an arc like this. But it's so great to think about, and it works so well with Squirrelflight's hyperactive, outspoken, and strong personality. If only we could have Bramblestar legitimately reform into a good person to contrast with his father...but I guess we'll have to just hug Tawnypelt close to our hearts.

Honestly. I mean Bramblestar is annoying too because he is angry with Squirrelflight for caring for leafpool’s kits as her own. That made me so angry. However, in the latest books it is not actually him who is being bossy and misleading and distructive. I don’t know who took him over, but no spoilers please if you know. I wanna find out for myself.

I don't know if you've seen it yet, but Moonkitti's video explains in excruciating detail why Bramblestar is abusive and why Squirrelflight needs to break up with him. And you know what makes this so sad? The new team is fully capable of creating that message. Hell, they did it in Crowfeather's Trial with Nightcloud and Crowfeather. Why can't they just do what they did with Night and Crow in one book. It's been over 3 arcs of this nonsense.

This was legitimately the thing that got me to cut ties with my abuser back in December, or at least it helped set things in motion for me. This was posted around the time I was starting to finally notice the red flags but I was too scared to leave, thinking he'd find a way to find me again or that I would be making a mistake.
I remember watching this and feeling so silly for projecting onto Squirrelflight, but also seeing how happy she looked at the end of the animatic, I guess that's when I realized I could be happy too. Even though it's not easy separating from someone you once cared so much about, they can still harbor a lot of toxicity and hatred that ultimately you're better off leaving behind-- something I definitely saw from Bramblestar as well as my actual abuser.
This might sound silly but thank you for this animatic, and for portraying the difficulty of leaving as well as the pure joy and euphoria you eventually feel once you're free. I guess I thought at the time that if a fictional cat in a youtube animation could do it, so could I :)

And in SquirrelFlight's Hope, BrambleStar is willing to turn away an Almost-Dead, Passed-Out rogue that has done no harm to him or his clan, for no reason other then *Clan territory.* In all honesty, SquirrelFlight would've been better off if she got together with Ashfur.
Because NOW, whenever Squilf and Bramble-Bastard fight, he always ends up bringing the kits into it, and he also always brings AshFur into it. I can say with confidence that SquirrelFlight should break up with Bramble, because all he's doing is giving her Depression, and Anxiety, and Self Doubts!

Sadly Bramble kinda became more like his dad than his siblings (Even Hawkfrost lol) even though that's the last thing he wanted. It would be cool if that was intentional, but I don't think it is.

@@cantsalvagethis Tigerstar and Hawkfrost were more "traditionally" evil imo. They were murderers, and that made them easy to hate. I find Bramblestar more hate-able, though, because his is a nuanced evil. He is just as selfish and power hungry, but he's more clever. He can't control the four Clans, but he can control Squilf. He manipulates and abuses her emotionally, leaving the kind of scars that no one can see. Worse, because he is their leader, everyone else *knows* he's treating her terribly, but can't do anything about it. Even StarClan has pushed them together at every turn when Squilf didn't want that back in New Prophecy.
I hate him more because he and StarClan have worked so hard to isolate her. Sure, she *can* go to her friends and family, but they can't help. No one can help. Her choice is to be abused until the day she dies and Brambleclaw likely replaces her, or to leave ThunderClan, and probably all the Clans, entirely. She would have to leave her kits, her grand kits, her sister, her friends, the way of life, home, and people she has known her whole life. Even StarClan likely wouldn't forgive her for abandoning her Clan and the mate they chose for her. So I hate Bramble more. I find his evil so much more sinister, even if it is less destructive.
@@nellbell2568 I'm sure the writers didn't really have a plan for it and didn't intend it, but it seems like Starclan was just mercilessly sacrificing the personal lives of everyone to get the power of three prophecy to work. They shoved Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw together even though he was being horrible to Squilf, tricked Leafpool into thinking she should run away with Crowfeather so that the three would be born and Cinderpelt would die, made Squilf believe she could never have kits so that she would raise Jay Holly and Lion,forced Jawpaw to be a medicine cat when it was the last thing he wanted, the list goes on. It seems like Starclan, and more specifically, Spottedleaf and Yellowfang, have no regard for the feelings of the prophecy cats and their loved ones and just want to get everything over with in anyway they can.
*TLDR: Starclan has been manipulating everyone involved in the power of three prophecy with no regard for their lives and happiness*

A lot of people like to blame Squirrelflight's hope for "ruining" Bramblestar, but his abuse towards Squirrelflight in that book really wasn't very out-of-character for him. Bramblestar has been abusive from the moment bramblesquirrel was introduced, only his abuse tactics are much less subtle in Squirrelflight's hope.
I love how proud of herself that Squirrelflight is. She got out of a toxic relationship, all on her own, that's huge! She should be proud of herself. I just wish she did this in the actual books. Great work with the animatic! The expressions were absolutely amazing!
I hate how Bramble treats Squilf. I also love how the fandom is aware of how Bramblestar is and ever since Moonkitti posted the Bramblebad video everyone just said “no ❤️” and how nobody is putting up with it anymore. This is going right into my AU where Squirrelflight ends up with Ashfur, just as a what-if.
Also, I do believe that someone asked the Erins about it and they still treated him like the golden child. Whether it was their intention or not, Bramble is clearly abusive, just want the Erins to see that.
Oh my gosh yes. They shouldve been together instead of Bramble! Ash definitely had problems, very minor easily fixable problems that couldve been solved with a talking and he only became a villain because the Erin's realized litterally nothing of substance was happening in the third arc

I love how Bramble shifts from being angry, to being sad or upset when he addresses Squilf. It really shows how he guilt trips her to do what he wants or to get her to stay with him or feel bad for him when all he wants is to control her. this animatic is so perfect, and gave me so much inspiration for my oc warriors book that I'm writing that has a couple a lot like this
It is actually embarrassing how many times i watch this one a daily basis
i can’t even begin to explain to you how much i absolutely adore this video. the expressions, the movement, the angles, your wonderful style- all of it. it literally gives me chills. squirrelflight has been my favorite character since i was a kid first reading the books and this? this is what i want for her. squirrelflight is a phenomenal character who deserves so much better than she’s gotten and seeing all this appreciation for her in the fandom warms my heart.

This is amazing! I love this so much and it would be beautiful for this to happen. I'm torn on the ship, I wish Bramblestar became the character I feel the writers see rather than what they made him, because that Bramble is cute with Squilf.
I love how she tells him he needs to grow up, because that's where I feel people miss the point. Yes Squilf was immature and demanding...when she was a CHILD! But she grew up, still having faults, but she isn't the child some still see her as and yet Bramblestar seems to regress more into how he should've been as a kit. Honestly, it seems like he acted more like an adult as a child but grew down.
I don't hold anything against those who still ship them, as quarrels being cute is a trope I do like as long as it doesn't cross the line, so I get it, but with everything I'm liking the ship less than I use to.
This is so accurate it hurts
The funny thing is this fits one of chars relationships. Ok, so Dove'Feather has a unique ability to see StarClan cats (Like Goose'Feather) she has gone against the code for so long to see a rouge named Cinder. (Who is actually from her clan, she just doesn't remember him) Cinder is super charming and kind but it goes downhill as he follows in his father's footsteps (Evil rouge who wants power.) and manipulates the blind Dove'Feather. Dove's clan finds out and forces her to break up with Cinder, which is hard for her due to the deep love she has for him. Black (Cinder's father) attacks the clan for this even though he was only going to kill Cinder in front of Dove to gain more control over Dove and the clans (Yes, he will never get any redemption.)
They all survive the attack, Black is wounded greatly and Dove is made DEP under her father's leadership. Another attack happens with the rouges and SC with them. Dove's father dies leaving her in a horrible mental state and has to lead a clan with injuried warriors and with no apps. Cinder sneaks up on Dove as she is receiving her nine lives. He says he's sorry for what he had done and says he'd do anything to earn her trust again, Dove agrees reluctantly. Cinder does do what he said, then Night'Fall comes out saying that Cinder is her son, Cinder doesn't believe her. Night'Fall tells Cinder how she was told by Black that he had killed him and his siblings (Jet & Moon'Fur. Moon is an SC med.) Cinder leaves the clan to confront his father.
Dove'Star still caring deeply for him tries to stop him, but it's no use. Black and Cinder fight, Black puts Cinder into a critical state leaving Dove to fight for him. The warriors of Dove's clan manage to get there just in time before Black is about to kill Cinder. Dove and Cinder are taken back to the clan camp, Cinder barely even alive. Dove stays up night after night day after day, paranoid for her clan and Cinder. One night she spots Black who challenges her to a fight for the clan (is this possible?) Dove nods in agreement. Black and Dove'Star fight long into the night when she finally kills Black after Cinder, her mother and Night'Sparrow (The med cat) come to her as she gives the final blow.
Cinder heals and is accepted into the clan, Dove'Star names him Cinder'Ash after his past becoming like "Ash". Dove and Cinder end up having kits after Dove'Star steps down from being leader, the new leader being her trusted friend OakClaw (Who will end up dying to save one of Dove's kits, from a fox. Although that kit still dies due to wounds and blood loss.) Dove forever has anxiety and tries as much as she can to give her kits freedom, even though she and Cinder argue a lot about this.
Dove and Cinder die together during an attack from badgers, but Dove is given by StarClan her leader name and is an important member of StarClan from there on out. Dove and Cinder's first born kit dies to white cough just after being named a warrior and the other leaves to pursue a prophecy from Dove'Star and Raven'Star.
(Should Cinder go to StarClan? Which Clan out of SkyClan and RiverClan should be Dove's clan? What should be Black's reason be to want power? Should Jet be like that psychopath of the family who is evil for no reason? (or because that's what he's been told his entire life.) Why should Cinder change his mind on siding with his father? Lastly, how should Cinder and Dove meet? and how should Dove's clan find out?)

This made me look up alternate toms around the same age as Squirrel that she could have fallen for instead. Weaselfur or Gorsetail from WindClan? Stonestream or Voletooth from RiverClan? Even Reedwhisker?

I shipped her with Stormfur when I first read the second series. But he fell for Brook instead.
Yknow its sad that most sane people in the fandom acknowledge that if she had to choose between Bramblestar and Ashfur, she would've been better off with Ashfur. Bramblestar is such an abusive prick to Squirrelflight for literally no reason and he loves to push the blame for his vile actions onto her. He only shows her love and "treats her better" in hard times and when he nearly loses her. I'm just waiting for the day for him to either A. _stop being an obnoxious and abusive asshole to her_ or B. for Squirrelflight to stand up for herself and to say no more to his abuse and leave him for good. I highly doubt any of those things will happen but I would love to see it happen. Squirrelflight deserves so much better than Brambleass
She wouldn't have been "better off" with Ashfur. He was smothering and if his reaction to rejection is anything to go off of, he would have been super entitled and controlling in the relationship. She shouldn't have to pick between them anyways, it isn't her job to cater to either of them.
