- This week we cover the history of The Centurions.
Born out of Star Wars brown gravy of success as an animated series and having only a few figures released by Kenner, all these years later it still holds a place in many peoples hearts.

The Centurions were a HUGE part of my childhood 😭
Same here
I watched it on Cartoon Network in 96ish.
@@azazaeldevile2506 1993 to 1994 for me
Me as well
Mine too
As a kid in the 80s I thought this franchise was way more popular at the time than it really was. Now I know.
Man and Machine... POWER EXTREME!
God I loved this show...
It needs to be rebooted bad. A series like Centurions is what boys today need in the midst of all this woke crap that's spreading.
@@greatrey we were working on cars in high school it was man and machine they would today be like 😦😘😳😴
We named our Marvel Strike Force alliance 'Power Extreme'
@@greatrey Dude leave your sexist crap out of it
Then funny thing is that were I'm from they actually said "ABSOLUTE POWER" in the dub.
Harrison Ford, Tom Selleck, & Rock Hudson were great in that series.
Bought a core Max Ray figure with no armor. Hope to find pieces of gear for him some day
Too bad they never made a movie of this.
I could only see Tom Selleck play the Sea Centurion, but the other two? Who plays who?
I too always envisioned a Magnum, PI era Tom Selleck as Max Ray in a hypothetical live-action version of Centurions.
@@siewheilou399 val kilmer and keanu reeves 😃
This 2 season show had the most serious story lines which you didn't appreciate until you got older. One of the rare intelligent western animated series for children. produced in the 80s
Oops sorry it should have been English speaking animated series.. Back to school for me.
Actually, I think a japanese company animated it
_"She wasn't alone out in space though, she had an orangutan named Lucy."_
Dude, Centurions was the $#¡+ ! Completely underrated.
We actually had all 3 figures, and it was a good Christmas when we got Sky Knight, Wild Weasel, AND Tidal Wave! 🙂
I think Centurions would work today. The toy line and the story narrative. I would like that today. . .
Eli Alivar no kidding,I saw the show in the early 90s and to be honest...it wasn't(at least what I remember)a bad show and a modern remake would be quite nice.
Get Michael Bay to direct a modern action movie series asap :)
Too bad kids will compare them to Iron Man.
+Wil Agaton Like She-Ra and Thundercats? Pass... let's wait a few more years.
I agree.
As a kid I always liked Jake Rockwell! He was the Rugged Land Operations Specialist. I'll never forget the tag line voice over at the end "Man and Machine! Power Extreme!"
He was and still is my favorite too, the first one I got and had the most weapon systems
Rockwell for the win
Same!!!!
I loved this show when I was still a kid... this is the first time I ever even heard about the toys.
They need to bring the show back and make a movie
I wasn’t born till 89, however I watched this show all the time on boomerang or whatever it might of been called in the early 90s.
It’s to bad the show couldn’t be revived.
Don't forget Jack 'the King' Kirby help develop the Centurions. I remember when it first aired. One of my all time favourite cartoon. Hope it comes back some day in one form or another.
A lot of unofficial Kirby influences in so many 80s toylines and cartoons, too
Dear Toy Galaxy...Please Do COPS!!! Fighting crime in the future time!
Yeah. They could go in-depth on BOTH episodes.
@@BarbarosaAlexander there were 65 episodes of COPS
@@andrewquick4176 Serioulsy? I mean, I'm sure you're right, but my local TV station played maybe 6, tops, in rotation. I liked them the first three times I saw them, but lost interest entirely when they seemingly had nothing new on offer. I'll be damned. 65 you say?
Does that mean that Rocket Robin Hood also had more than a half-dozen episodes? Because I can still damned near quote the "Friar Tuck" biography word-for-word almost 40 years later.
No joke the series was animated by Sunrise same people who made gundam .
Gundam and a boatload of other robotic anime, some of which are cult anime in and on themselves: Daitarn III, Zambot 3, Daltanias, Vultus V, etc...
That explains why you get an anime look to back ground people in the show.
I grew up in the '90s and early 2000s, but caught reruns of this show on TV as a kid. I thought it was awesome. Alongside the old Transformers reruns I used to watch, I count this as the reason I now love '80s toys and cartoons so much. I'm fully aware that this probably makes me the only person on the planet to consider themself a fan of The Centurions despite not actually having been alive when it was around, but I'll own that.
That is awesome. When it comes to fandom, it shouldn't matter how you got there or when. As long as you're a fan it's all good.
Let's not forget Jake Rockwell as well.
I too became a fan from the reruns.
You are not the only person.
Age or generation you are from will make you any less of a fan... This was my era but awesome you can enjoy it the way we did!
Jake Rockwell will always stand out to me because he had an armor set called “Wild Weasel”, that basically turned him into a bike.
I think I pretended to turn into that bike in my lounge room about a thousand times 😂. Mostly as a kid when the cartoon was on (and maybe a few times as an adult). Loved it.
I had that toy before, but without the Rockwell figure. It was sad. 😅
I Named my Husky after Shadow, Long Live Centurions.
7:04 is a Freaking Shark with a Freaking laser gun mounted oh his head!
Fighting the Space Madness sounds like a better idea for a kid's show.
Fun Fact: Had the second year of toys been released, Kenner were considering adding a new 6th member to the Centurion team named Vic McCloud who would have been Ace's previously unmentioned brother and would have been a space specialist.
10MT Productions should have been Vic McMoon
This is the youtube video I never knew I needed in my life
I remember watching this on Boomerang when I was a kid. Back then on Sunday's they showed all the action cartoons. It was a cool show.
JB 93 yeah boomerang sucks now
Me too, I remember hunting for the toys like crazy at antique shops and garage sales lol. I remember buying some used beat up ones from ebay and the excitement of riding my bike to buy a money order and mail it in back before PayPal was a thing lol they arrived on my birthday and I was so happy to get then. Ace had a broken thumb but I was to happy to care
Loved this cartoon. Me and my friends tried to make lego versions.
I FUCKING LOVED THIS SHOW AS A KID and still do.
This could be a huge franchise. Don’t know who owns the rights but I want a TRANSFORMERS, MASK AND CENTURIONS shared universe (not GI Joe tho... no one liked that outside of the US)
The Movie cast would be
Kit Harrington as Max Ray
Chris Evans as Jake Rockwell
Channing Tatum as Ace McCloud
Rob Lowe as Dr Terror
Paul rudd as Hack
I would love to see this show make a comeback. It was one of favorites when I was little kid. With how advanced technology as become in today's age I think this show could thrive.
As a kid, I loved the toy line and the show. Ace was probably my favorite toy of all time.
I loved this show!!! Jake was the best and “The sky is on fire” (I think that’s what it was called) was a banging episode
Today's kids will never know the uncomfortable feeling of their action heroes being unironically moustached.
Mind elaborating on that? I can't remember any reason as to why one should feel discomfort over a character designed with mustaches.
A-moustache!!!!
everyone said that Max was gay. Today no biggie. back then, biggie. I thought it was funny.
Savage Jesus thought that was ace
Savage Jesus thanks for speaking everyone's mind lol
The Centurions was one of the best cartoons of the 1980s. Way better than G. I. Joe! Max Ray was my fave character.
Ace McCloud was my favorite character on centurions
This was my favourite show as a kid by far, and so few people even know or remember it.
This needs to come back.
I loved this show. I still love this show.
Once again you've given me an awesome case of childhood memories.
The cartoon was awesome, as were the figures. I had Max Ray.
Would love to see an update cartoon or even a movie.
These were great, I liked the concept of interchangeable weapons and the size of the figures was an attraction. Unfortunately the cost was too high. Once you bought the figures you of course wanted to buy the add on weaponry packs, and it all just became too much unless you really wanted to devote yourself to one toy line
They get pricey yes, but that's why it seems that similar lines coming out in Japan in recent times with the same concept are targeted at an older audience, i.e. the ones with the money to burn for those, and so far they've been very successful over there.
@@StrikeNoir105E succesful but niche, at the time the kind of money lines at their prime like GI JOE, Star Wars and MOTU where moving was stratospheric and adult collectors didnt really exist.
These were some of my favorite toys to play with.
I remember seeing this on Cartoon Network as a kid. Was so cool ☺️ I could never find the toys till we finally had a Toy’s R Us years later but never bought them sadly. I forgot it was called Centurions though 😂
My first exposure to Centurions was seeing a friend of mine with the McCloud toy. It looked so awesome to me that I asked my parents for one, and eventually got it. I loved the gimmick, and I think these could be rolled right into the GI Joe collective universe too, with the right planning. The show was fun, but the toys were the bigger hit for me. Of course, all those little add-ons and missiles would get lost so easily, but it was all still a lot of fun at the time.
this is an awesome dose of nostalgia. please cover dino riders !!!
I second that! Please do Dino Riders!
I loved this as a kid. Instead of more DC/Marvel movies, I'd wish for someone to make a Centurions movie.
You keep taking me down memory lane. Loved these toys!
I first saw this on Cartoon Network in the early 90's.
Same, though I owned Ace McCloud back in 1987.
Me too.
I've been trying to remember the name, because I wanted to see if the cartoon was UA-cam. Now I can finally scratch that itch.
Likewise.
WebVMan you did.I watched this on sky tv back in the late 80s....in around 1987.
The Centurions had the 3 most manliest names.....
Slab Squatthrust! Rock Hardpeck! Lump Beefbroth!
@@brianhenry152 Bob Johnson! Oh wait..
We put our faith is Blast Hardcheese
@@thetxaggie6575 Punch Rockgroin!
@@brianhenry152 Smoke Manmuscle!
I loved this cartoon growing up. Man did they name them well, Ace Mcloud? Spot on!
brings back so many childhood memories 😭😭😭😭
i liked only Ace because Max was like Uncle whom we never care about, Jake was like a loner with his pet dog but Ace was a swashbuckling playboy.
Ace was my favourite
“Centuri’ONS” or Centurians as i’ve always pronounced it
This gets more disturbing the more I hear it.
I believe I discovered Centurions on the toy aisle first, and the toys were awesome. Somehow, Centurions was the toyline I had the most of (and managed to keep what I had). I know I watched the cartoon, but I'm pretty sure it was after I got my first Centurion toy (Max Ray, the underwater guy, green exoframe)
I loved this show when I was a kid.
I remember watching the show when I was in the hospital after they found out I was a diabetic.
Take care and God bless
Someone liked this comment apparently. I didn't continue watching it after I got out of the hospital and ask my mom for any of the toys. It was 1987 when I was watching the cartoon for a few days.
Take care and God bless
Lucky! Most of the time during my diabetes diagnosis, about the only thing on was about Michael Jackson's illegal business. But you have my blessing. I got type 1.
Derik Penman Well I have the same type I, and this was in 1987. I was more interested in Gobots and Transformers and only watched this on TV a little, and it was also the only time I watched Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood.
Take care and God bless
Actually it was 1986 not 1987.
Take care and God bless
Huh, small world. But okay, that'd make it different. Though usually if a news report darken the set in my hospital room, I just changed it to something like Courage the Cowardly Dog or a 70's SNL.
Orbet...orbati...ord...oh FUDGE!!!!😡
One of my favorite toy lines...I miss my Ace McCloud 😢...someday I'll tell the tragic story of what happened to my toys...😢
Great video guys! 👍🏽✌🏽
Holy moly!!! What a blast from the past. I remember talking about these toys with a colleague about 5 years ago and wracked my brain and searched google to try and figure out what they were called! Now I know!!! I just have to try and remember the colleague I was talking to at the time so i can also enlighten them!
Great vids btw. Oh to be a child again in the golden age of toys - Star Wars, mask, GI Joe, he-man, and of course centurion!!!!
Glad to help. Thanks for watching.
As a child, I loved the cartoon. It was one of my favorite's. Surprisingly never owned any of the toys.
"Hey, that dog didn't put missile launchers on HIMSELF!" I'm freaking dying! PAWSable deniability. I also loved that it was designed by three legendary artists/creators- Gil Kane (defined the Silver Age Green Lantern & Atom), Doug Wildey (Johnny Quest), and Jack the King Kirby!
Had a Centurions back pack in 1st grade.
I had the wallet, which I used to carry to school in the first grade.
I Lol'd when you cut to Crow T. Robot saying "McCloud". Well played, sir. Well played.
Centurions along with the real ghostbusters was my favourite cartoon growing up in the 80's. Never saw the toys though until a few years ago on ebay. Didn't even know they existed but would have definitely picked them up in the 80's if i did.
Id like to see a History of Spiral Zone.
What about UPN's Arthur and the Knights of Justice. I loved the concept and hate that we never get closure on anything we enjoyed story wise because of poor toy sales.
They've actually done a video on that one too!
I really never was a big fan of Centurions. But I liked it. Its was produced by Ruby Spears and they did a great job. Great animation quality and lots of action. A true 80s classic.
Just started rewatching the show for the first time in years!
Ace Mccloud was my dude had the figure when I was little but sadly only the add on set he came with and the space set I think the set he came with was called sky night but can't remember the space one
xeno8484 Orbital Intercepter.
Orbital Interceptor
N don't forget sky bolt
So did I. Sky Knight was the coolest name.
Have you ever considered making a Captain Power video? That’s a toy line that everyone seems to have forgotten!
carlos martinez great idea! I had two captain power toys as a kid.
Henry Verniz Maybe not as forgotten as I thought it was, haha
There was supposed to be a reboot of it called Phoenix Rising but I guess they back out 😢
Done! That was the video I watched before this one.
Loved Ace’s voice Neil Ross. When I first saw the 86 transformers movie and heard Springer talk I immediately thought of Ace from centurions...excellent.
I love that you keep the outtakes
I have basically this entire line, saving it all for my children from the mid 80s (my mom was more generous... J/K she found most of it in a clearance bin). This was probably my favorite toy line after the transformers. Once my son turned 6 I gave him the toys... He was pretty underwhelmed except for the ability of Max to shoot shark missles. He's pretty much destroyed them at this point
This comment had a lot of ups and downs.
No no no no no no no lol that cat :D :D
Marcelo's Toy Room hair balls
Such a useful clip. It's nothing ground breaking but still pretty damn good.
This is one of my favorite cartoons ever
I’m not sure how much I knew about the line or the show but there was an “under water guy” and I loved the idea of the interchangeable parts! These figures were very durable with stiff joints and heavy duty plastics. They need to relaunch this exact line, with maybe a few more points of articulation!
Spiral Zone. Please do Spiral Zone.
He did!!!
The closest I came to Centurions was a (ladybird?) book when I was a kid.. That aside, 10 extra points for the MST3K
"McCloud!" Now we've got to think of a toy line with a "Mitchell" character...
grew up watching this. love it.
One of my favorite cartoons!...I had all the action figures and most of the accessories too!!
When cartoon Network first started they aired this show all the time and that is how I was exposed to it. However since this was the mid 90s I could not get the toys and my brother didn't collect the line, he was more of a M.A.S.K. kid, so I never had any of them. :( I probably would have wanted Jake, because he had the most systems and thus the most stuff to swap around.
If they did a live action Centurions film, they can consider casting:
Max Ray: Robert Downey Jr.
Ace McCloud: Bradley Cooper
Jake Rockwell: Liam Neeson
Crystal Kane: Scarlett Johansson
Doc Terror: Tommy Lee Jones
Hacker: Tom Hardy
Dino Monzon all too old now
Haha! I too always imagined Bradley Cooper as Ace McCloud! Here's my casting wish:
Max Ray: Will Ferrell
Ace McCloud: Bradley Cooper
Jake Rockwell: Adam Sandler
Crystal Kane: Jessica Alba
Doc Terror: Clint Eastwood
Hacker: Michael Chiklis
Kudos to the hilarious editing. Mad skills! Thank you
I looooved this show as a kid but neither I, nor anyone I knew at, had any of the toys. Jake was my favorite because I loved the fireforce configuration.
Centurions it was the Frame Arms Girls of the '80s...
Except you don't feel uncofortable when you play with this toys....
These where my first love! Then transformers took over my life lol
Same.
Me too
I love this cartoon and I miss it so very much
My favourite cartoon growing up. Loved it
it needs an anime reboot
please someone recommend “The Centurions” animated be in a live action series to Michael Bay director of “the transformers”. this will be more suspense action than autobots
He would be the best to direct a live action Centurions film, since the original show also had plenty of explosions.
I hope there will be a remake of this movie, either anime or live action using existing 3D technology, that will be very awesome....
Top show, thank u for your service
This needs to make a comeback with modern technology 😭😭😭
Would they have had a shark with frickin' laser beams?
Unfortunately, they're on the endangered species list, so we had to make do with mutated sea bass. They are ill-tempered, however.
Great video man for real I love these blast of the past
I loved this show. Hopefully they can do a reboot one day💯
The covert ops guy was the worst.
He never did any covert opsing
@Wolf By Night are you talking about the John Thunder? He was on the show at the very end and those episodes focused on him and Rex Charger
That's because John Thunder wasn't the covert ops guy. He was the "Infiltration Expert".
That you saw.....
Love me some Centurions! So many epic battles with them as a kid!
Loved this cartoon!!!
I loooooooved Centurions!!!
As far as I know this toy line never reached my country but my family has satellite TV when I was a kid and I remember catching a few episodes of the show.
I used to watch this show rerun. I LOVED IT
I loved this show. It was incredible
Yeah Buddy! Loved Centurions when I was little. I had Ace, Jake and Hacker but never got Max or Doc Terror. Had a bunch of the extra sets too for Ace & Jake. Really cool toys for the time. Been working on a set of customs myself.
I loved this show!.
Loved that show!
I’m 44, watching from the UK and your brutal cynicism has me in stitches!!! I’ve realised the past few years that my nostalgia was actually an anchor and watching videos like this helps me to ‘snap out of it’ and see it for what it truly is. 😠😔🙏🏿💜
Ahh man I freak'in loved this show!
