I hate those yellow mold! (A few people told me that it’s not mold, though.. but some kind of mushroom spore). They will randomly appear, even when substrate is dry.
Exotics Lair ayyyy been watching for a while. You make entertaining content, keep it up!
Hey uploat new video pliz
I notice they appear because of cricket/roach/any feeder remains.
Exotics Lair We need a New Video
Mushrooms are fungus which is also mold.
Petko: What do you want?
OBT: \\\٩(๑`^´๑)۶////
Petko: That’s more like it.
You ever threat posture so hard that you fall on your back
#just_cobalt_blue_things
Alex Dettmann the T equivalent to “flexing out” lol
"What do you want?"
*threat posture*
😂😂😂😂😂
Looks like the mycelium of Leucocoprinus luteus, often called the "coconut fiber mushroom", the spores come in with coconut fiber, I get infestations all the time in my enclosures. If you microwave or otherwise sterilize the substrate with heat before using it in your enclosures, the spores should be killed off and you shouldn't have these infestations anymore. :) As it is, every enclosure you have that uses unsterlized coco fiber can have a breakout of this fungus at any time.
Invertebrate Dude I use Canna coco professional, I use it for my plants as well as my T's, its good shit. I've not had mold once and its fairly cheap for a 50 litre bag. Much better quality than coco bricks
I microwave mine. Helps to bring the moisture out of a freshly expanded brick, too.
Yeah... microwave or a 100 DegC bake in the oven.
how long do you microwave it for?
if you moisten the bedding and then microwave until steaming and dry, you'll have achieved 100 DegC or more so you should be ok.
I'm impressed you notice these mold problems despite the numerous enclosures you keep. Keep up the great work!
"Im dangerous, like fire in a nursing home. Old people burning old people burning"
Nice song refrence LMAO
the p. murinus really doesn't mess around. little spider, mad at the world.
A pissed OBT? Never seen that before..
:3
I've learned so many rehousing tricks from watching your videos. You're the best
You and Tom Moran are the best on rehousing tarantulas.
I am addicted to your videos!! You have a great attitude and are helping a lot of people get over a big fear. Cheers!
I love it when tarantula walks si fast its legs are tapping 'pat pat pat'
‘Boom. Mold. Stupid mold’... There is no place for mold in the dark den. RIP mold ⚰️
So funny when they bolt & you start going "why?" "Why?" And start laughing 😄 it tickles me!! 💋 take care n stay safe xx
Great tips as always THANK YOU!!
Love that OBT behavior!!
Very enjoyable video. Since I can't have any spiders due to severe arachnophobia on account of my significant other, I can enjoy them without actually having them. Thanks.
Kåre Wijk mine wasn't severe but since I introduced her to my tarantulas, she slowly lost her fear and actually began liking them.
P.s. it is better if you introduce her to a sling first so that she can observe its growth
Kåre Wijk just show up one day with a sling. Tell significant other its a rescue animal with a troubled past and needs a chance;) they couldnt say no to that!
Jan Padiz Thanks for the tip, but it is severe. A common house spider and she freaks. We're talking true anxiety. Take care
brian anderson She probably wouldn't say no as much as make me deaf in the process. She is severely afraid of our eight legged friends and even the smallest guy sends her into panic mode. Take care.
Ohh I see. You take care too.
The P. murinus looks so small and fluffy that its threat posture's really hard to take
really watched many of your videos, not because i like the content with tarantulas that much, because i like how you act in your videos (: ✌
i started out just clicking one of his feeding videos awhile back but subscribed because of his great personality.
Same here. I keep other invertebrates (No T's) and Ive watched all of his videos and look forward to them weekly. Its his personality and dedication that appeals to me.
yeah same hes so welcoming i wasn't even into spiders/tarantulas but iv ended up loosing the fear of them :), and everytime he uploads i sit back and chill with him while he educates me lol
You have to admit tho that many of his tarantulas are actually beautiful for spiders. They are extremely healthy and he really honors the animals with his enclosures. Each one is a piece of art. Petko is just awesome. Quirky is just a bonus.
The song you used in the video goes so well with obt's personality 😁 love your videos btw! They are so entertaining and full of information.
My niece was watching with me and she say why is he gluing the spider in the container do you have to glue spiders so they don't escape ? Lol kids and there thoughts
That last one, like, "oh, no escapes yet? Watch this! I'll make your video more interesting!" ROFL!!!
"Some reason you don't want to go down?" " yep.. freedom from everything.. Free!!" 😂😂😂
Slowly but surely these videos have eased my fear of spiders.
Little feller in the beginning wanted a lil tummy rub.
"what do you want"..... "I'm scared" loool i replayed that entire segment with murinus like 20 times seriously. so funny.
all these spiders didnt let anything be easy. haha, this was hilarious video.
Love your videos & seeing how well you take care of your tarantulas (&everything else of course)
I had this mold as well. At my LPs enclosure i just changed half of the substrate and let the rest dry out. It worked fine.
There's always one that gets away. Great video as always 👍
Reason to like Monday's: Dark Den uploads.
6:47 either arachnian language or be right back.
xD
More longer Vids pls! Enyoing them after a day full of work to chill a lil bit
"Like it? Whatever." hahaha everyone after a stubborn rehousing
Those OBTs have a personality of a Chihuahua! XD
Mold spores can come from anywhere .. floating in the air, on the prey items you offer or even from you coming from outside and then opening up the enclosure
That Jon Lajoie reference at 6:30 was great
Lol XD 5:56
Petko "What do you want?"
Spider "... Fack youu!"
Your awesome! Me and my kids watch all your videos! ♥️ Always excited to see a new one
You know that kind of mold appear as my friend would always add a large amount of springtails to take care of it and if that didn't work you would change the substrate and then add doubles amount of springtails that he had originally added into a closure
To avoid mold you could try to
- improve ventilation in the enclosures
- use other substrat/mixure
- install a drainage-layer under the substrate
- put springtails/isopods in substrate
- try lower humidity (if the spider is comfortable with it)
Good demonstration on why one may not want an OBT unless you thrive on stress.
1:43 "...she got so mad until she flipped upside down. WOW. Crazy cobalt blues [OBTs]."
I don’t think I ever seen you so scared you are usually calm and take your time but I’m glad everything worked out and I hope you had a nice vacation. Maybe it was the week off that made you a little scared 😱. Hope you had fun 🙂
I had the same problem.
Had to rehouse most of my tropical Tarantulas. I think there where spores in one of my coco bricks. For years it was all fine, and suddenly this abomination was taking over half of my enclosures :)
I highly recommend springtails and white wooodlice. I have all these in my more moist enclosures like dolichothele bolivianum or cyriocosmus sp and never had any mold issues. Also, not a fan of coco fibre, i rather use organic soil from the woods, maybe mixed with clay for burrowing species.
SquatsAndOats2plate
Yep, I would recommend them aswell they will get the job done. No mold since I added those to my enclosures.
“i’m scared” 😂 he’s so cute
These little guys used to terrify me, now I'm considering buying one.
Youve inspired me to own my own tarantulas. Love your videos ma dude
Also, in my more moist enclosures I add in isopods and springtails.
Petko saying "It is what it is" is something I can relate to on a religious level
Enjoy the channel! Keep it up! I watch your stuff all the time
- devon from canada
Problem might re-occur also after adding new substrate as spores may be on the T’s itself. I found my small enclosures housing slings and juveniles get that kind of mold a lot. Might be not enough airflow and drainage. My latest enclosures have clay beads and activated carbon for drainage and lots of venting. So far no yellow mold.
I like the way you love your work and the spiders! Never Stop giving us videos!!!!! ;-)
The obt loves you so much!!
Mold is typically due to lack of air movement. Maybe you have your enclosures too close together on the shelf. Try adding some holes at the top of the enclosure on the front and back to increase airflow
That threat display meant business LOL!!
That intro never gets old
If this would have been done at the Original Dark Den you would have had to remove some trim and move the couch haha I love the new space man!
last tarantula was like im just not going to cooperate lol funny stuff man keep it up I love what you do much love from the uk
Obt is so funny to watch and how u Act in Bad Situations like this is just fun to watch. Thx for ur Videos ! I enjoy it every Week !!
They say don’t bite the hands that feed you, elegans took a shit on the hands...
lmao I was doing some work in an enclosure and flicked dirt into my cup of tea, it was only a very light amount and it was sitting ontop so I just spooned it out and then when I finished there was dirt at the bottom XD
So much amazing tarantula content!
Try to bake the substrate? In the oven to kill the bacteria / mold. Small batches.
loving this new camera Petko!
Like fire in a nursing home.... that one made my day!
this was a really nice video - love these happy little guys :0
Nice video again. Ever thought of using something like burned/blackened bark or wood? I have no idea if that is even possible with tarantulas but if it is it could make some of your spiders stand out realy nice I would think.
That is OBT, crazy as always :D No I mean, colors are bit darker but I guess it will be lighter by next molts.
I just LOVE the interaction with the OBT! Hahaha
Love your videos Marko!
Also where do you get the clear plastic boxes from?
I want an OBT so bad 😆 his tiny fury is so adorable.
You should film the pterinochilus in slow mo, would be really cool to see the stike in slow motion.
Definitely seems Easier in the New Space!
Just had this happen to me! The struggle is real!
Old people burning, old people burning
You always somehow put a smile on my face :D (also there is an animal expo here in South Africa)
The little guy who pooped on you looked like a wingless bumble bee from a distance
I had a problem with mold in most of mine before but I just use springtails now and I’ve never another issue
I wasn't expecting you of all people to just randomly quote Guns Don't Kill People and I woke up my wife from laughing so loudly.
Mould is the fungus, mold is what your spider sheds.
Good luck on The World cup!!
ohh wow epic vid like always love watching u dark den :) love to see what u will do when it happens like that and tell everyone :)
More dangerous than a fire in a nursing home!!! Lmbfbo. Good one. Tyfs God bless you
No mold! Time for happy dance.
Can't wait untill my C.Elegans get to that size. It still a tiny sling, about 0.4cm. It's just recently molted but it's still tiny. They only reason I know its alive is because the fruit flies I feed it disappear after a while in its enclosure.
But I still want to get a couple more C.Elegans
It has to do with the fecal matter of the spider. Different spiders, different diets, different chemistry. That is why you get mold in some, and not in others.
Came for the gold baboon stay for the content
I've had no issues with this mould since I stopped using coco fibre!
Super video as always! Keep up he good work! ❤
MOLD!! What a pain 😞
Coco fiber and moisture ...Always the culprit ! Pekco 🕷🕸🥥💧
Ive been told that adding adfitional ventilation helps, in smaller enclosures where moisture can concentrate it needs extra ventilation I guess? Idk personally but thats what Ibe been told
You have tarantulas that can teleport! Cool... 😮
Threat posture -> yeah, its the murinus :D
That's fungi, it is not problematic, and about mold wen withe do not worry only green or dark mold, if white is benefic for flora/fauna
That's the same mold I have with my GBB as the Marshelli. Not as bad though. They are in pre molt so as soon as they are done and harden up, I am putting them in a new enclosure....Wa wondering about it. Looks like little mushroom spores coming off the substrate.
Oh a new dark den videos :D
Lol nice video petko. What you were saying I very much agree with!
loved the Jon Lajoie reference lol
No more molds no more problems..congrats on the win in the world cup! 😁😁😁
