Beast is conceptually the quintessential x-men character. A hulking feral looking creature who's actually a sensitive and brilliant person. It really needs a better big screen depiction.
Kelsey Grammer's Beast was so fascinating because behind all that makeup and prosthetics and blue, you could see not just a person, but a smart, dignified human being that wasn't just smart, but more than anything, he was HUMAN. I think subsequent versions of Beast have failed at this (outside of animation of course, where he's always given his due, thankfully).
He's the true best representation of,beyond what's on the surface level ,lays the true character of a well distinguished gentleman, not afraid to fight for what's right, but always willing to talk and be diplomatic It helps that he looks badass
This fact also does a lot of worldbuilding, because we never need an explanation for why Beast is very much the public face of mutants. He's inescapably a mutant, but can also overcome that - exactly who you want advocating for mutant rights.

I've been rewatching the xmen series with my newcomer boyfriend and these films have aged fantastically for the most part. Watching a marvel film that's not the mundane 'MCU style' is so refreshing
The rumours are Marvel is developing an X-Men movie set in the universe that we see at the end of The Marvels, so presumably that’s when we’ll see Kelsey Grammer back as Beast.
As cool as that sounds, I think it's going to be a new cast of actors as the MCU X-Men, with legacy actors like Grammer, Jackman, and Stewart from the FOX movies only appearing in Secret Wars and maybe Deadpool and Wolverine.
@@karimion2157all that wait time is really going to cool off the hype for X-Mens return. '97 reignited the passion but waiting three years for casting and probably another two for an actual film release? That's like 2029 and a full decade since the last X-Men film. It's a real bummer
I didn't really mind Nicholas Hoult's Beast and it kinda shows alot of growth with Beast throughout the years finally coming to grips of who he is and embracing himself as a mutant and I think he was just shell-shocked with the boy with the cure tbh
Agreed. But most of these people will not give these movies that much credible. They wont even acknowledge when these movies are great or even fantastic like Logan and Days of Future Past. They consistently sound like ignorant bigots about these movies
I love both Grammer and Holt Versions of Beast but I will admit that Grammer is Full to Perfection as Beast and honestly I came to loathe Actors showing their Faces instead of keeping the Mask, Make Up, or CGI Faces to portray the Characters out of the Page.
The scene in x3 where Beast meets Leech is incredible, and kelsey grammer nails it. You can tell it took Hank a long time and a lot of soul-searching to come to terms with his mutation, and hes probably wished many times that he could just be human, and seeing his own non-blue, non-furry hand just brings it all back. He manages to hold it together infront of the kid, but by the time he gets back to the doctor, he's visibly shaken. Amazing scene
in regards to First Class, I think it got down to time. Mathew Vaughn and co only had only 9 months to get the whole project done so i wouldn't be surprised if some of the turned out to be rushed.
The problem with the X-Men transferring to the MCU tho is that god forbidden scene in Multiverse of Madness where Scarlet Witch no diffs the illuminati. Makes me not even care about any potential X-Men, Fantastic Four, or Inhumans connections because their leaders got punked and looked weak asf. Yeah it was done to make Scarlet Witch look unstoppable but when none of those characters had any presence before that scene it's all we have and our first memory will be them getting shit on. It's the problem with Kang now, he's supposed to be the next big bad but he has no aura since Antman beat him up and Loki cucked him having his only power. Maybe it's just me, but these factors matter
@@anthonyvillanueva5226 I didn't know they'd have different casting, if that's the case then what I said isn't as valid. But it's still a bad way to start off
I agree with you, but i knew the Illuminati was going to be done wrong ...i mean did you read Civil war? the movie is dog trashhh compared to the comic and i refuse to even say its mid its low tier, should have been called Tony vs Cap civil war in comics was a huge deal people died , hugely effected Spiderman in that he tells the public his Identity and Aunt may gets dogged on by a bunch of baddies civil war film did what the Multiverse of madness did to illuminati
Exactly. One of many reasons why I hated that dr strange movie and mcu in general Scarlett witch is trash . In the comics she would get destroyed by all the illlumati. Even Charles could one shot her. Mcu is just terrible at this point. With its political correctness
1:27 - Yes. That David Hayter. "Kept you waitin', huh?" - Solid Snake/Old Snake, Iroquois Pliskin, Naked Snake/Big Boss. David Hayter also voiced Captain America in the 1990s Marvel Animated Universe show Spider-Man: The Animated Series and The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes in the game Marvel Heroes, he also had a cameo in 20th Century Fox's first X-Men film and wrote a script for a Black Widow movie that he was going to direct too, but sadly it never got made :^(. Now as for the topic of the video, Nicholas Holt could have been amazing as Beast for he is a spectacular actor (similar to Miles Teller in Fant4stic 2015) but it seems that Brian Singer didn't seem to understand that his characterization in X-Men First Class was just how he was when he was a young man and he should have already been more like The Last Stand Beast by the time Days of Future Past takes place. Kelsey Grammer Beast is great, one of the best parts of the film.
Anyone else painfully aware of how the speaker draws out the ending of the last word in his sentences? I loved the part where beast is whipping around and kicking people 😂 good edits
Love the Kelsey grammar appreciation! Rare to see anyone say anything about him positive or negative! And that’s a good thing ! Definitely a great casting and design. However I had nothing against Holt either but I can see the criticism in his facial prosthetics. There was too much going on . Too cat like , like he should be on avatar
Sorry, but Hoult just simply sucked. He looks nothing like the character and has no charisma. One of the most boring actors ever. Kelsey Grammer is far superior in every possible aspect.
@@thedestroyer2alltrolls411 I respect your oppinion but I feel differently no need to be sorry 💯 sure grammer is superior I wasn’t saying he wasn’t . But I enjoyed both . That’s all
I never quite understood the nature of the prequel Xmen series, in the sense that over 2-and-a-half decades seem to pass between First Class and Dark Phoenix, and yet none of the og x-men from First Class seem to really age in any significant way. Holt especially still looks like a bloke in his mid-to-late 20s when he's supposed to be well into his 40s by the time Dark Phoenix starts.
That deleted scene when Beast recites Shakespeare is probably better than any of the new trilogy beast, he was played well by Nicolas Hoult, but the character was written with just the basics of the character and no flavour also the design was too werewolf, which worked ok when it was set in the 70's but not that well in the other movies
Kelsey Grammer will always be beast in my heart. It was one of the few X-Men characters that I think did justice of the 90s cartoon show when it comes to beast act physically not as physically muscular. But I also think that might’ve been because of Kelsey playing Zozi in Bartok the magnificent because a possible hero is such a good song. I wish it was longer.
5:56 This always stood out. Just designing a plane doesn’t mean you can fly it, similarly to knowing how to create guns won’t make you proficient in firearm combat.
I kind of liked beast from the “prequels” i really liked the casting and all and thought it went well, i think they were just kind of restricted on what they could do when the last stand did stuff with him. I also thought that it would make more sense if they gave a reason on why he was so close to Xavier, like had a scene where Xavier did something to make himself important for beast
im so glad we got the beast in the mcu that looks exactly like the one from the animated show. it looks so good and hopefully the cgi becomes a bit more realistic too
If anyone else is a metal gear solid nerd like me and was wondering, when he mentions the screenwriter for the X-men movie being “David Hayter” he is in fact talking about the same David Hayter who did the voice of solid snake in almost every American version of the metal gear solid games. As soon as I heard the name I instantly went to google to find out if it was the same guy.
First class explanation about the cure accidentally enhancing the mutation makes sense because if the viral is meant to destroy a systematic aspect the system will either die or advance past the virus.
You know if they were going to have Henry in The Marvels look like how he did, they should have just stuck with the makeup and prosthetics. If they were going to make him CGI, they should have given him a design that required it. Like have him look like a slightly buffer version of his X-Men Evolution self, my favorite look for Beast in his ape form.
Younger Beast should have had the exact same personality as Kelsey Grammer's older Beast. Some people don't take decades to figure themselves out. Young beast could easily work coming off as a learned old scientist, in fact it would be fresh. He'd just be an old soul who reads a lot and enjoys the classics and philosophy, at 20 years old.
Considering Marvel Studios brough back Kelsey Grammar as Beast in a certain Marvel movie credits scene i think he is the best Beast we have gotten so far.
Oh man I’m loving the energy you’ve got in the most recent vids, your last one was a smash hit, x men content seems to treat you well and I’m so ready for more the boys videos
The wirework on beast was actually fantastic, he actually looked like he had gravity when he did far jumps and tackles, a lot of the time people just end up looking like they float.
My problem with hoult's portrayal is that it isn't beast at all. And hoult could be beast, he's an amazing actor, but they didn't make hoult beast. Kelsey grammar is the best live action beast
I always imagine the Beast Nicolas Hoult portrayed was still in his beginnings. He was discovering himself and the change through which he went. He felt awkward and WAS awkward.Grammer's beast was mature and grounded. He knew how to play with his skills and felt, in fact, that he was used to being beast. That's why it seemed natural. I think it's a fair sequence to development of the character and is the natural course of how things should go. If you think of it that way, It'll give you peace, I'm sure.
The one missed opportunity was that upside-down reading shot. They should have utilized gravity to give him the giant hair wingers (at least for that moment).
AVI ARAD worked on the first movies as executive producer But for THE LAST STAND, he decided to step in as the main producer That's why we got a movie done by a director with no passion, and a limited story overstuffed with characters, just so he could sell more toys
It was rushed into production way before the script became a coherent whole so they slapped together two story variants and went along after Singer dropped out while Ratner was the yes man all the time
1:27 Solid Snake admitted that it became lame and then went onenof the most beloved actors in video game history, right after Kickstarting superhero movies as a trend. Fucking legend David.
Beast always been one of those characters that never made me really like him because he was basically the blue gorilla man that gets captured by humans in most adaptations. In live-action Beast is a much cooler and actually more interesting than other bigger characters because he's much more than his looks. He feels heavy but agile, strong but swift and with a deep but calming voice, which Kelsey Grammer nailed 100%. He had the body size and the acting, just perfect on the role. I'd love if they'd made the solo Beast movie with him. I know they'd probably recast him because he hated the makeup, but it would mean a lot to see him back with it instead of CGI.
Yeah, I completely disagree with him on Sabretooth. Tyler Mane was far better and more comic-accurate than Liev Schreiber. Liev Schreiber lacked the size and intimidation.
Glad to see I wasn't the only one who hated young Beast despite FC and DoFP being absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to see Beast finally become an Avenger in the MCU!
Another great video, but just to clarify the DOFP topic of why Beast can transform into either form without extra medicine is he does say to Wolverine that he takes enough to keep him balanced but Charles takes too much. And he says this while we watch Charles shoot himself up with the syringe of the medicine like an addict. So, that is why Hoult can transform from blue beast to his human form and back again. And when he needed to transform back immediately when being targeted by one of the Sentinels in the end, he shoots himself up with like 6 syringes for immediate effect. Other than that small point, again, great video!
Your problem with complaining out him taking a serum to get the hair and beastly appearance is that the method, albeit not the timing, is actually comic book canon. It happened in 1972's Amazing Adventures #11.
ngl i love Kelsey Grammer's take but tbh none of the beast versions looked great imo. Until i saw the marvels wow wow wow wow + with Kelsey Grammer's voice, definitely is and will be THE reference for beast in live action for so many years.
I’m pretty sure Beast being able to transform into his blue form, even with the serum, is explained. Hank tells Logan that he takes only a little bit of it. While Charles is pretty much straight addicted and takes it non stop. That’s probably why Hank can still control his mutations while Charles can’t.
Hoult’s “Feline” Beast is as by far and away the best cinematic BEAST. Followed then by the new Kelsey voiced CGI, then Kelsey in the flesh, followed lastly by NON “feline” Hoult Beast. If I remember correctly Matthew Vaughn intended for First Class to be a relaunch and when he didn’t return for the sequel (he was able to make his co-creation the Kingsman) they brought Bryan Dinger back and he made Days of Future past to shoe-horn them together.

I think those films all had bigger problems than the one producer, hell, he wasn't even executive producer on most of them.
@@mdstevens0612 Agreed the biggest culprits on that list is SONY and FOX
Careful, you're sounding like what's called "toxic fandom" or "anti-fans".
What was so bad about Fantastic Four to the point of ruin? 🤔
I think one of the best/most underrated aspects about Kelsey’s beast is how intimidating he is. Like I know the makeup/prosthetics most likely added some bulk to him but I feel we should appreciate the fact that you 100% believe that Kelsey grammer, a man who’s most iconic role was a pompous neurotic radio psychiatrist, could totally break you in half if he felt like it
Met this guy last weekend, on a night out in Stockwell. Can honestly say he's a lovely, friendly, down to earth fella. Wish you the best of luck with your channel mate. Top man.

@@gabrielestrella2272They're not allowed to recast the X-Men until 2027 though. They need some contracts to expire.
@@karimion2157actually it's 2025 that's set to expire
@@Shahriyararin63 Nope. 27.
@@karimion2157all that wait time is really going to cool off the hype for X-Mens return. '97 reignited the passion but waiting three years for casting and probably another two for an actual film release? That's like 2029 and a full decade since the last X-Men film. It's a real bummer
Comparing Beast from Dark Phoenix to American Werewolf in London is absurd 💀 guy looks like teen wolf, not a hellhound
the head turn when he said “screen writer david hayter”
1:29 excellent choice snake
My favourite X Men character by a long way. Kelsey Grammer is and always will be the definitive Beast
Fun Fact: the screenwriter for the original X-Men movie, David Hayter is the VO for Snake in the Metal Gear games
I always loved the ice man and pyro scene, Bobby was still young and didn't know his potential, until in the fight.
Got an advertisement right at 3:51 when Iceman headbutts Pyro.
Your comment popped up the moment that happened lol
1:28 I love how it’s ‘Screenwriter David Hayter’ as if it’s not his most famous accomplishment
What about
I love both Grammer and Holt Versions of Beast but I will admit that Grammer is Full to Perfection as Beast and honestly I came to loathe Actors showing their Faces instead of keeping the Mask, Make Up, or CGI Faces to portray the Characters out of the Page.
Lol i like how he said david hayter the guy who is snake in metalgearsolid😅
Just because those versions lost doesn't mean future versions will. Pedro Pascal's Reed is not going to be John Krasinski's Reed.
Exactly. One of many reasons why I hated that dr strange movie and mcu in general
Scarlett witch is trash . In the comics she would get destroyed by all the illlumati. Even Charles could one shot her.
Mcu is just terrible at this point. With its political correctness
@@jasontodd1896 "with its political correctness" oh brother here we go....
Kelsey Grammer Beast is great, one of the best parts of the film.
that leaked beast/wolverine horror script sounded badass
For some bizarre reason the writers just decided it didn't matter.
I would’ve bloody loved to see a beast solo film, maybe an unpopular opinion but he’s always been one of my favourite comic book characters
Agree. Last Stand Beast was great. Sad that we didn't get more from him.
Kelsey Grammer’s beast was my favourite growing up, and I was always disappointed when he wasn’t in any of the new films.
5:56 This always stood out. Just designing a plane doesn’t mean you can fly it, similarly to knowing how to create guns won’t make you proficient in firearm combat.
couldn’t agree more, Kelsey is beast! Perfect casting.
Kelsey Grammer was an amazing cast for Beast. Glad he returned to in the MCU and hopefully in Secret Wars
The best part of the casting is that Beast in the 90s X-Men cartoon and Dr. Frasier Crane in Frasier are so similar in characterization.
I am not kidding when i say that Kelsey Grammer as Beast is one of the best comic book castings of all time, he is seriously underrated
I kind of liked beast from the “prequels” i really liked the casting and all and thought it went well, i think they were just kind of restricted on what they could do when the last stand did stuff with him. I also thought that it would make more sense if they gave a reason on why he was so close to Xavier, like had a scene where Xavier did something to make himself important for beast
kelsey grammer was pretty much spot on imo
im so glad we got the beast in the mcu that looks exactly like the one from the animated show. it looks so good and hopefully the cgi becomes a bit more realistic too
When beast's form was revealed in First Class, i couldn't help but laugh.
Mf looks like a dr suess character.
Did you have the same personality as your younger self with the same experience?
@@itsDjjayyArt Same personality, not same experience. But I don't claim to represent everyone else's evolution.
@@itsDjjayyArtyes
Nicholas Hoult's Beast was pretty weird and cat-like, but it still looks better then the CGI monstrosity in The Marvels' post-credit scene.
I mean Beast was in Cat form during that time and looked pretty good depending on artist and let there be more to "I keep becoming more monsterous"
He looks great now honestly, it's the best he's ever looked, in the older films he literally looked as if he had on makeup.
Considering Marvel Studios brough back Kelsey Grammar as Beast in a certain Marvel movie credits scene i think he is the best Beast we have gotten so far.
Think you messed the title up lol
I think you haven’t finished the video lol
I’m loving this “series”. Just evaluating the characters in X-men in general is fun

Him being in human form is supposed to be technology that creates an illusion to make him look human, this is from the comics
The wirework on beast was actually fantastic, he actually looked like he had gravity when he did far jumps and tackles, a lot of the time people just end up looking like they float.
Yeah it was fantastic, wish we had seen him in more movies like that
My problem with hoult's portrayal is that it isn't beast at all. And hoult could be beast, he's an amazing actor, but they didn't make hoult beast. Kelsey grammar is the best live action beast
But he lacks charisma and doesn’t even resemble Hank nor Beast. Kelsey Grammer is better in every way.
AVI ARAD worked on the first movies as executive producer
But for THE LAST STAND, he decided to step in as the main producer
That's why we got a movie done by a director with no passion, and a limited story overstuffed with characters, just so he could sell more toys

6:20 exactly what i was thinking watching DOFP,.. the whole TIME... Roll credits!!!
That Fear the beast movie was just an adoption of a Hulk comic but replaced Bruce with Beast.
The first beast looked better than the new one his makeup looked more odd
CGI beast is interesting
I really liked the more lion\cat like appearence
I agree with what you said here, I’ve been saying this to my brother. But I’m not so sure if I agree with your Sabretooth video.
Yeah, I completely disagree with him on Sabretooth. Tyler Mane was far better and more comic-accurate than Liev Schreiber. Liev Schreiber lacked the size and intimidation.
nobody cared about the series?! i cared... and i cared about that beast. what 😭 x-men apocalypse is one of my favourite x-men movies!!
THE CG LOOKS GREAT IN THE POT MARVELS SCENE I FEEL.
You need your eyes checked
ngl i love Kelsey Grammer's take but tbh none of the beast versions looked great imo.
Um... American werewolf in London looks like a dog
James Holt looks like the wolf man
I want Matt Berry to play beast in the MCU
