Watching X2 as a senior : jimmy, that guy that is blue, what was his name again? Grandpa used to watch him as a kid, and i would say he was cool. Then i learnt a few words and say ‘ he is so cool.’.. what was his name jimmy? I met your grandma at a convention and we were actaully talking about this blue fellow.. NIGHT crawler..thats his name.. what is it that hte kids say? Based? He was very cool, jimmy… like your grandpa ha ha ha.

I think in hindsight they needed to do X3 in two parts. And ditch the Dark Phoenix if not gonna devote the necessary time and keep the cure

That whole opening sequence is maybe the best in the whole X-Men universe cos it shows how powerful just one mutant can be, and it was executed with perfection

Nightcrawler was my favorite comic character as a kid. Seeing them get him so right and then so wrong in every other iteration was so hard. He really had the perfect introduction and characterization in X2.
The nightcrawler Whitehouse attack scene was peek cinema for me . I was like 11 or 12 when it came out and I legit went to the theater and saw the movie 3 times because that scene was so kickass.
I always really liked that the smoke lingers in the air for a bit after he teleports.

What adds to elements of how cool the action scene is that Nightcrawler can be a terrifying devil, but that isn't Kurt. Kurt may be among the kindest X-Men, who isn't a literal empath.
I was shocked we never got a Nightcrawler/Quicksilver team up scene in the later movies where they’d both be taking down a squad of soldiers or something.
Imagine their powers together visually. Nightcrawler bamfing around with quicksilver putting people to sleep in between them. The best of both “best scenes”
Now this ome I actually agree with completely. This Nightcrawler, in this X-men movie, this one was peak, it was excellent.
My favorite version is from Wolverine and the X Men. He was so heroic and intelligent. He almost teleported across the ocean too. He stood on business taking out Geonotion mutants and sniffing out Magneto’s plot
Probably my favorite character besides Gambit, i always used to main him in the X-Men Rise of The Apocalypse game
I might be biased bc I AM German, but when you asked about a reboot!Nightcrawler in the MCU, Matthias Schweighöfer immediately popped into my head lol I guess he's famous enough right? He also has a great laughing voice and could pull off the goofier side of Kurt very well imo

I really appreciate this video because whenever I watch/read reviews about X2, I'm hoping for more discussion about this version of Nightcrawler because usually the extent I see is "he's super cool/his action scene is super cool/his personality is cool/Alan Cumming is cool/etc", but never get in too deep with it or go past the actual movie. Awesome job and I love your inclusion of talking about the tie-in comic and video game because those both get severely overlooked
That is still a top 5-6 comic book movie action scene and what made it better it made sense to the story, it wasn’t just action for the sake of action.
The White House attack is like as amazing as the lobby fight in the matrix.

@@kadegetslaid634 You're going by the comics though. This is a film adaptation with a serious tone and setting. He's not gonna be cracking jokes or act light hearted while he's essentially under mind control and in some dark, damp underground military bunker.

I kinda understand them not having Quicksilver tell Magneto that he is his son. Mainly because it would have been kinda tone deaf, if they go ''yeah, you lost one kid, but here is a replacement kid''. He doesn't say it, but Magneto must have already put two and two together since DOFP.

This is easily my 2nd or 3rd favorite adaptation of Kurt (Nightcrawler). I also love that they did not try to ignore his Christian aspects too

It’s annoying they only had Nightcrawler in one movie (up until Apocalypse or First Class with Azazel) cause he has so much potential for amazing action set pieces, just look at his team up with Wolverine in X-Men 97’
Actually he was in 3 movies, xmen apocalypse, x2, and dark Phoenix. That is if you dont count his cameo in deadpool 2.
And hes not in first class.
But man, i legitimately loved him on xmen: the animated series and xmen 97. And he was so lovable on wolverine and the X-men and X-men: evolution.
Hes practically done perfectly in basically every adaptation hes in.
Teleport is such an amazing power, only ever explored so well in this movie and 'Jumper' (2008). It's very odd how no other movie seems to have ever attempted to do it as well. Honorable mention to X-Men games emulating Nightcrawler.

I always found it baffling that some of the marketing for Last Stand actually had Angel wearing a leather X-Men costume but he never wore it in the film. It would’ve been cool to see him fight in the final battle as well save his dad and potentially even Pyro since last time we saw him he was unconscious before Jean went crazy.
Wouldn't mind seeing a video on Ben Foster's Angel next. He's right up the alley of a perfect character adaptation let down by a shit movie.

It's just **chef's kiss** every moment, every piece, every factor that went into it.
I explicitly remember as a kid constantly replaying that scene over and over and over again. It's just that good! Especially since I find myself doing the same thing here.
I personally like teleporting powers. Kurt was one first teleporters I became a fan of as he is a brother in faith, which makes it better. Makes me wanna be a teleporter myself.

Hope to see more of Nightcrawler in the mcu universe. The fox x-men movies pretty much ignored that Nightcrawler mom is Mystique. They also ignored that Mystique adopted Rouge in the fox x-men flims. So it would be nice to see that in the mcu just like in the animated series and the comics. I'm sure most of the x-men characters will get their own movie or Disney plus series. Although I am expecting mcu wolverine will get his own movie maybe Gambit too with Rouge.

Kurt/Nightcrawler has always been my favourite X-Men and one of my favourite Marvel-characters in general. I never understood, why he just vanished after the second movie and didn't stay with the X-Men. (Yes, I know he's in the Reboot/Prequel-movies, but still.) Also: There are THREE movies with Nightcrawler and Mystique in it and yet they still never point out that they're mother and son!
I like Nightcrawler with red telporty smoke more because it shows that Azazel is Kurt’s father.

I like an older, more mature version of Nightcrawler like they did in the old 90's X-Men series and I think Flula would nail it. Love Alan Cummings Nightcrawler btw.

There's this guy from Netflix's DARK and All the light we cannot see, a german actor called Louis Hofmann. He's 27 and would be perfect for the role in every way imo.
1:07, It’s important to note that Kurt’s first appearance in the film series’ was as the terrifying demon others believe him to be at first glance and his final action sequence in Dark Phoenix (for the flimsy reason of a human guard who spoke to him one time dying) sees him return to that terrifying demon, smiling sadistically as he uses his abilities in their most violent and destructive ways.
Kurt’s abilities and appearance may have been perfectly translated to screen, but his personality is only partly done right, especially his religious leanings, but in both film iterations, it takes either a mind control serum or sudden, out of character bloodlust, to have him weaponize his abilities like in the comics.
6:53, Looking back, the likely reason they abandoned him was them considering his telepathic abilities a threat. Sure, Storm messing with the surrounding temperature disrupted his use of his abilities, but the moment he recovered, he could have projected torturous illusions into everyone’s minds, which would have impeded them long enough for the building to collapse on them.
8:15, It’s interesting that Azazel largely lacks Kurt’s reliance on sight and limited range because the hypnotized Kurt and the rebooted Kurt are portrayed similarly versatile with their abilities, suggesting X2’s Kurt simply never pushed his abilities enough to discover more of their potential, something supported by his overcoming his reliance on sight by teleporting himself and Ororo into a closed room with injuring either of them.
10:03, I’d say Scott and Jean’s presence fit the story better both because they were directly referenced in the story by Logan and they were far more integral parts of the team. Kurt was more of a situational ally in comparison.
I just add that Azazel his father is Mutant not a Demon that retcon long ago!!!

Based on their ages compared to the classic X-Men, I don't think Bishop and Blink would've been erased from existence necessarily, they might just not be X-Men in the new timeline.
I will point out that in days of future past, Mystique sees two other photos of dead comrades and allies (Angel is first, then I think its Banshee?), and its only when she sees Azazel that she gasps and tears start to run down her face. Like maybe she was there looking specifically for evidence of him. Idk. It’s subtle but it’s so obvious you know what I mean? Like Jennifer Lawrence straight up jokes about it. They never wrote a scene in acknowledging it because like…it’s all right there lmao
even tho alan coming is kind of old now, i hope he comes back to play nightcrawler, he played him so well

It hurts that they gave Mystique a redemption, but she and Nightcrawler never reunited. Imagine they finally get a happy ending, in the vastness of the multiverse and the infinite timelines, it's not impossible.

Both Nightcrawler and Quicksilver have better, more effective and timeless moments in the "awful" Fox X-Men movies than any one character moment in the MCU
But X2 and DOFP are arguably the best of the FOX’s X-movies.

9. Dr. Strange bargains w/ Dormamu
10. Loki saving the multiverse in Loki season 2
All of these are memorable character moments that people still mention all that time.

And I’d argue the MCU heroes are way more mainstream than the Fox “quicksilver” and “night crawler”. Actually I know for a fact they are considering how many more people have seen the MCU movies, and how big a part of culture they are.
If you ask a random person that’s scene those movies about the portals scene in endgame, seeing iron man suit up, or all 3 Spiderman swing together, most likely they know about it and would call them memorable.

I’m drawing the line, Kelsey Grammer did a terrible job as Beast. His characterization was good but he doesn’t know how to act in the make up. Nicholas Hoult isn’t in the make up 100% of the time, sure, and he’s in the prequels which progressively get worse with each joint, but he carries so hard, First Class he steals the show when he chokes out Magneto, and almost decks Havok. Days of Future Past he has several incredible scenes despite being a supporting character, namely his first few interactions with Wolverine. I need to rewatch Apocalypse before I say anything about it. Dark Phoenix, he carries SO HARD. Like more than Hugh Jackman in Last Stand. As far as Nightcrawler goes your analysis is spot on
