This one was a challenge since I couldn't rely on the boys being active participants in the story, with me having to design an entire ensemble instead. Looking up reference pics of Wexford and watching countless street interviews with Irish people was a blast, though. You'll be seeing my character and BG designs on my socials in the coming weeks (Insta: / harrisondrawscars Twitter: / harrisonklein7 )

I like that Giuseppe’s scamming of an entire town was undone by one guy being the first to go, “Hey wait a minute. Doesn’t this guy owe literally all of us a huge sum of money?”
Nobody wanted to be the one to ruin Giuseppe for everyone else
I've no idea if anyone else has actually put together who this guy is but he was likely called Antonio Di Munno. There's an article in the Irish Independent corroborating the story about him jumping into Wexford Harbour and getting a wound on his foot. The article also confirms it was in relation to him agreeing to jump if Italy won the world cup in 2006, which was indeed the outcome, so we can date it that far back as well. And he also owned property called The Potato Market where he sold produce and was hosting a watch of the World Cup finale at the time. His wife was likely an athlete known as Fionnuala Staples.
A separate article in the Independent confirms The Potato Market suddenly closed shop and he fled the country after a string of bad debts in October 2006. As far as I can tell he was last spotted as having some kind of management role in a restaurant called Mister Percy in Pyrmont, Sydney. Maybe someone should pay the fella a visit and ask him how he's getting on?
Internet detectives out here doing the most. God bless
Irish people would have last names like Staples.
Fionnuala Staples? Like Fiona Staples, the comic artist?
@@yggdrasil2 No. But that would be a crazy twist. This Fionnuala also seems to live in Sydney so maybe there's a happy ending to the marriage after all.
doesnt chris make all of his stories up?
As an Irishman I remember there being a Giuseppe statue in every town in Leinster at one point, we threw em all in the chocolate jelly river after he left
Maybe I should ask my dad if he saw any Giuseppe statues in Dublin when he went on one of his business trips there...
Ok, so I checked in with him and on his first trip over they were setting up the statue, and on another one he helped throw it into the river.
As someone who has been to Wexford multiple times. The Giuseppe chippery was a treat
They still haven’t taken the one in Portlaoise down
@@maxegan4380 They kept theirs up out of spite
I still can't believe this happened, it genuinely sounds like a Simpsons episode, like the monorail guy
Or Armin Tamzarian.
He could’ve made it up! But The upchucks would never make up stories like that!
First he said it was just his parents circle of friends then he said he was giving interviews on the radio and running for mayor. Ermmm 🤔
@@A_Black_Sheep94 this is what we're talking about!
@@A_Black_Sheep94
I just assumed it started off as a small social circle but the circle kept getting wider as he branched out meeting other people, you'd be surprised where people can find themselves purely from who they know.
Zach comparing him to a Demon for "trying to burn" Chris's uncle by giving him a hot coffee is my favorite element of the story
He was fine with the scams and leaving his wife but hot coffee was too far
That is like pretty fucking evil. Especially if it was actually like scalding hot. Burn your tastebuds off 😁
I mean 3rd degree burns on your throat sucks
There was that incident a while back where a woman got burned so bad by her McDonald's coffee it permanently disfigured her vagina, boiling liquids are no joke
@@Cameron-ue5mm poor old lady. And she was bullied by people and labeled as a girl just tryna get money for being stupid.
The story of Giuseppe is one of my favorite Irish folklore. It tells young Irish children to be careful about who you trust and always be careful of strangers with bad intent.
Specifically. Foreigners
@@tpower1912 specifically italians
and especially Italian foreigners.
Moral of the story: never trust Italians.
"So what's the moral?"
"Don't Trust ANYBODY!"
There once was a bloke named Giuseppe,
A charmer, though some might say sketchy.
When our money came due,
He went toodle-loo!
Took his coin and his charm, and he left me.
I've gotten fanart, but never a fan limerick. Thanks!
@@harrisondrawscars3834 Thanks for the reply! It really is a nice thing you've made here.
I love the idea of a traditional Irish folk song based around the legend of this strange swindler from far away lands. The kind of song with a great moral to teach, “never trust Italians.” Wait I don’t think that’s right.
I feel like I just watched a short film before a Pixar movie.
Dead on.
yeah and it's like better than the movie your watching so you just end up thinking damn i wish this was the film lol
Pixar presents "The Great Giuseppeing"
Accurate
The Rise and Fall of Giuseppe the Deceiver
0:52 I love the detail of the pastor having to lift Giuseppe’s arms in order to take the baby out of the water. I love how that implies the Giuseppe either didn’t realize the baby would drown or that he wanted the baby to
He’ll get him another time…
Ok this is the coolest Oneyplays animated ive ever seen , this feels like watching a psychonaut memory vault in animated form . 10/10 👏👏👏
How did I not see this comment before commenting the exact same thing?
Completely agree
PSYCHONAUTSTS 💕💕‼️💕‼️💕‼️💕
The style is SUPER nostalgic for me personally. It reminds me of the little comics I'd read in the newspapers that came on Sundays when I was a kid. Especially Zits or Andy Capp
@@xyliahlol6279 nah, I think it’d be more interesting if you had to go into the Abandoned Wife’s mind to help her deal with the issues this prolly left her with.
I kind of like how Chris corrected Zach’s, “[Giuseppe] was like a demon,” with a simple, “No, he was like an evil bastard.” I just feel that the kind of evil in Giuseppe’s actions isn’t supernatural in the slightest.
Thats what makes giuseppe so scary, hes human
@@leaffinite2001 its like breaking bad but instead of cooking meth its just him being an asshole
1:02 I like the idea of Zach going full native on like a week long visit, sitting there smoking a pipe with a flat cap on.
Oneyplays slice of life cozy livestream (with rain sounds and foghorns)
I love the Giuseppe sized hole in the wall. Nearly as big as the Giuseppe sized hole left in Wexford after his departure.
This is probably my favorite oneyplays animated so far. I love it.
Right? I took the Giuseppe-shaped hole literally and ran with it (and it's in his wife's wall, no less)
@@harrisondrawscars3834 Your cartoons are great, dude! Keep up the awesome work.
it's my hole. it was made for me.
And the Giuseppe sized hole left in our hearts…
You’re actually a legend and you have the perfect art style for it! It’s like a storybook and it’s perfection!
Yeah this is literally a perfect example of animation elevating an already funny bit to astronomically funny, loved this
It could be a children's book, "Guiseppe comes to Town."
He honestly sounds like a real life Wario. In a sense.
2:00 lmao I love the detail of "Guinness" being replaced partly to spell "Guiseppe"
the drawings of wexford town are actually scarily accurate
Once you've been to one shitty little Irish town, you've been to them all.
google maps street view
Either the guy animating this lived or lives there or visited or just did a scarily amount of research on Google maps
This is so creative and well-done! I love how you depict the whole story instead of just having the oney boys talking with occasional interjecting shots. Keep up the good work!
Glad you like it, thanks!
This is actually the most insane Ireland story that Chris has ever told, I can't believe it took him this long to bring it up. Your animation is absolutely fantastic as well!
I'm like 94.32% sure he was making this up lmao. But i don't blame you I thought Julian had a glass eye for year and now I never trust them.
there’s no way it’s real. after he brought up them running for mayor there’s no way. you can easily look up election cycle details in wexford and verify that nobody not already established in Irish politics (let alone foreign and Italian) have run in the past two decades. If it was real, this guy would be waaaaay more famous, to the point where I guarantee fifteen different youtube video essays with 10mil views wouldve been made about him.
…. god i wish it was real tho…
@@voidishprattles4319
The swindling thing is 70% real but the mayor thing seems like a far fetch little add on to this bizarre story.
look up Adrian Vaduva wexford and the story comes up. the guy was romanian and faked his identity. it is a true story, but chris gave it the irish twist of making it more outlandish than it already is
@@tgi3d881 It's cool that people found out who it was, I always wondered the veracity of it.
I always imagine Wexford as the city in the fable games.
That's funny as hell!
Same.
When I think Fable, I think a river of sewage.
This doesn’t really feel like an average Oneyplays animation, but something out of a European fairytale or an experimental animation. Honestly, it’s really good.
I love how all of your lets play animations play out like a short film synopsis.
Hey look it's Pringus McDingu-oops wrong guy sorry
@@TheoHiggins hey look it's squimpus mcgrimp- wait no
Do you 🤤
I think my favourite scene has to go to 3:14, as Giuseppe looks through the photos of his time in Wexford. For a moment, he almost looks like he regrets what he’s done, looking back on his time in Wexford, his friends, his family, the love the people showed him, as he picks up the key to the city he got from the mayor of Wexford…
And promptly tries to run for mayor before getting chased out of town. I don’t know why, but I love it.
yo do you know the music during that part?
Instead of him thinking “i want to make amends with these people” like you expect, he thinks “i could probably still manipulate these chumps!”
I like to think you heard them say "Guiseppe shaped hole" and decided to actually draw that guiseppe shaped escape hole in the wall of his home.
Can't wait for Giuseppe to snake his way into the Oneyplays group through his long lost nephew Tomar
3:24 "susceptible to getting Giuseppe'd" is such a great phrase. It's like 'Cellar Door".
Imagine if this was Chris' big gaslight story that fooled everyone.
He was the italian man who got ran out of Wexford.
I wouldn’t believe it normally but my childhood town had a Giuseppe
I’m on the fence about it. Him elaborating too far into some parts makes me not believe it, but Ireland is a mythical land.
@@papagrande7448 There are articles in the Wexford People newspaper about a guy named Antonio di Munno. In 2003 & 2004, there are articles about this wonderful Italian immigrant who sings songs and holds charity events. In 2007 there's an article about how "entrepreneur Antonio di Munno fled the country leaving behind a trail of bad debts."
Somehow out of all the OneyPlays bullshit, this one checks out
Maybe Chris is actually Giuseppe
I keep thinking his lower lip is a mustache and I just love that ambiguity, it adds to Giuseppe's mystery
On rewatching I realized that he tries to drown the baby during the baptism but the priest brings the kid back up lol.
This guy definitely makes the best oney plays animations.
I really like this one. Gives me "Triplets of Belleville" vibes for some reason. maybe it's the background music choice. really love it.
oh great now I want to see an oneyplays animated in the style of Silvain Chomet, which would basically be impossible
Love the innocenti, shout out to those tiny Italian cars
Being the cheapskate that he is, Giuseppe chose the 90 model over the more powerful 120
WOW!! This is incredibly well done! The art style, the backgrounds, the creativity and the timing to the conversation, it’s so detailed and funny! My favorite part was at 2:06, the buildup is that Giuseppe is gonna quietly slip town after being found out, but then it reveals a giant Giuseppe shaped hole in the wall where he Kool-aid man’d his way out. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. Amazing work!!
The most cinematic shot of all. I'm proud of it. Thanks!
Phenomenal work!
This is another great example of Jeff's "Irish Stories" theory. Chris veers off for a moment to tell us about Giuseppe's possible septic infection which ultimately had no bearing on the story.
What's that theory?
@@YggdrasilAudio Jeff noticed all the Irish people he knew personally (which i assume was just Nial and Chris) have this habit where in the middle of telling a story, they'll toss in an aside that's only tangentially related to some aspect of the original story. Like here, where Chris veers off and talks about how Giusseppe got an infection from the river. Or in Nial's story about never catching a fish where he just throws in that he pissed his pants. Look up Sleepycast Irish Stories to learn more today!
@@theperfectdoug that’s not an irish thing, that’s a bullshitter thing, something chris and niall are both. adding unnecessary details that detract from the story is a telltale sign of a liar
@@sikamikanico04 No,is indeed something irish people do.
@@sikamikanico04 no, the Irish do this all the time.
Little did they know, Giuseppe was making his way around the world doing this over and over again without stop.
One day he will reach California and will become the final boss of OneyPlays. Chris will have to call all friends and guests of Oneyplays to form a team (like the avengers) and they will have to fight together to take down Giuseppe (like Thanos).
I can't believe Chris used the Tomar Emeralds to defeat Giuseppe at the cost of his own life
@@ajmeraki4029 Giuseppe: I am evitable.
Chris: And I...am...OneySephiroth.
So wholesome take this upvote
So heckin' epic! You my friend have just won the internet!
Giuseppe needs a whole movie to tell his tale in a format rivaling the Godfather
Supposedly, someone found out that this guy's name was 'Antonio di Munno'.
I smiled when I saw that he did indeed leave a Giuseppe shaped hole in the house.
i love how music is used here, first time i've seen a world established like this in a lets play animation
You have such a knack for visual storytelling in such a pleasant style, with the perfect pairing of storytellers
There's a What We Do In The Shadows episode where Laszlo does basically exactly this and it's so good
I think my favorite thing about this story is that the Irish people of Wexford were just so impressed that a man bought a restaurant that they let him take over everything.
What a legend
i fear that one day a man named giuseppe will appear in the town i live in
Honestly, Giuseppe sounds like my dad lol. A very charismatic and social guy who owes me thousands of dollars.
As someone who's never been to Ireland, I actually remember a guy like this when I went to Ireland.
Really appreciate Giuseppe's Napoli jersey and the fact he's sepia colored, as all Italians are.
Amazing visual storytelling. This is a great example of why so many other oney plays animated vids fall flat. This animation actually adds to the original audio, it elivates it into some really great. Really funny. Also the animator cleary knows wexford/ ireland well.
Zach's "He must have been all over the world doing that: Moves into a new town, jumps into a new shit river" is severely underrated
What's also severely underrated is this animation, I keep comming back to this every few days just to see how well done it is, this guy is gonna make it big someday
What I especially love about this animation is how it sort of elevates the storytelling of the episode. It kinda makes me wish you did more of these for the really unique and vivid stories they tell.
I love that subtle attention to detail like how Guiseppe holds the baby under the baptism water for a smidge too long and the priest had to intervene.
This animation is so quaint and cute. It adds so much more charm to the story.
0:54 I like the detail of the guy having to pull the baby out of the bowl of water
Such a high production value, this was a lot of fun to watch!
Dude the Giuseppe shaped hole in the wall killed me
I really, really appreciate this anecdote and how you executed it. Sound and visual with your editing, really lands
Had to rewatch this instantly after my first watch, this was one of my favourite Oney Irish stories and you gave it justice, loved that everyone was wearing lil paddy caps heh :))
This is the single best Oneyplays animation I've ever seen, so much creativity, the animation adds so much to the story, visual gags that are set up in the beginning and pay off later on, it's like watching a short film!
what if Giuseppe saw this and commented "Yeah that's realistic."
what i find great is how well you portrayed wexford here, pretty accurate visually
This is probably the best possible way that this story could have been summarized in animated form.
I'm from Wexford and I gotta say man some of your depictions of Wexford are unironically brilliant and accurate. Even sneaking the Wexford emblem onto the podium Giuseppe was on was a super nice touch. Great animation
I'm from wexford and the attention to detail in this is amazing. You're amazing man
Lol, the Guinness tap in the pub has been painted over with "seppe"
I adore the detail of the priest nudging his arms up so he doesn't end up drowning the baby. So many ways that can be interpreted, like if it was a small accident or actual over-the-top demon activity.
I really enjoy how Guiseppe is just a wall with legs and arms. The lad is wide and you must abide. Large and incharge. Big and that's no fib.
I love how detailed and personally this was animated. It truly did feel like watching an episode of a little show with all the work and creative touches put into it
Act I: Giuseppe comes to town
Act II: Giuseppe jumps in the river
Act III: Giuseppe burns the town
Act IV: Giuseppe’s remorse
Act V: Giuseppe’s last huzzah
Epilogue: Giuseppe plays with his monkey
Why doesn’t this have more views? It’s so captivating I’ve watched it like 5 times since I’ve discovered it.
Same man, the animation really elevated the story more than how I imagined it when it was told
I think this might be my favorite Oneyplays animation, the style is just so good
I absolutely love the visual storytelling at 2:01 after people find out Giuseppe owes everyone, of the bartender going to the tap and a single drop comes out, that's great. Awesome animated of one of my favorite Oneyplays stories, great job.
The storytelling in this is off the charts. I wanna see you direct a movie damnit
1:53 I love the slow realization that Giuseppe scammed an entire town
this guy deserves a movie
This is extremely well made and I love the atmosphere, I’d assume someone could enjoy this even if they weren’t familiar with OneyPlays. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to Giuseppe a small town in Wisconsin.
This is so cinematic, I almost forgot I was listening to the Giuseppe story, just watching Giuseppe: The Movie
Loved seeing the difernet cultural maraige ceremonies.
Especially as a Norwegian, i always get giddy when i see something vaguely relating to Norway haha
To this day, I don't believe Giuseppe wasn't his real name.
Love your way of storyboarding the boys' crazy stories, even down to the amount of references you look at in the process.
Still think you did a great job coming up with all the Wexford character designs. This was another splendid watch!
Absolutely love Guiseppe just being a circle
I love that Guinness was changed to Giuseppe
This is an example of an oney plays animated that brings it as much as the boys did. It's not just a visual complement, it actually makes the story better and adds to it.
This is awesome!! Really great style that lends itself well to the story-telling. Really nicely done :)
Giuseppe is super cool I wish I met him
The way that Chris didn't really skip a beat telling the story for that long gives some credence that this is real but he's also told so many stories like it that it's hard to believe that this isn't some very elaborate gaslighting
This is so good. Love the little continuity with the statue being replaced again with the town hero.
Love the aesthetic and production value here!
Chuckled hard at the Baptism bit.
I've heard italians are among the most famous irish folklore creatures.
Brilliant animation. I often listen to the Irish Stories compilation and the Giuseppe story is one of my favorites. Another good story is when Chris dumped water on some girls at his flat. "Ah Sabrina, are you alright" is a phrase that will forever live in my head.
That was such a well laid out animation! Even if you watch it with no audio, you know the story.
Literally one of the best videos ive watched all year. If there was an audience there would be thunderous applause to the point of throwing chairs and screaming with joy.
incredible, the segment where it's snapshots of Giuseppe running game across the earth was especially creative.
This is actually beautiful, like one of the most entertaining cartoon episodes of all time
I genuinely think this is the best Oney Plays animation
this is amazing man, it got to the point where I was just watching the cartoon and completely forgot it was Oney related, you did an incredible job man
This is PBS' Blank on Blank: Chris O'Neil
All the music and sound effects made me so invested I felt personally betrayed by Giuseppe at the end
This animation is beautiful the story itself is compelling and I come back to this animation itself so so so much for that alone but I love how you went our of your comfort zone and convey the story on its own its amazingly shot and I have to say my favorite bit is the nightime car scene the music is wonderful and the visuals are striking and I just love it your characters they are wondeful and expressive the exaggerated facial features feel spot on I don't know how else to describe it
this is the best oneyplays animated ever
One of my favorite oneyplays animations just because of how great the storytelling and imagery is! Well done
Love the Felleni music in the background! Makes the atmosphere of the story 100x better
