One of the best series ever! Thanks for this! I didnt sleep well that dark and cold winter night back in 1988 when first saw the first episode as 8 year old.
V sure was one the best Scify series made in the mid 1980s and 1990s! Even its remake can't touch the power of the original V miniseries and 3 parter of V The Final Battle!
As a kid, I was in awe as 2:17 Julie (Faye Grant) stands up alone with just a handgun to the attacking alien aircraft. A very powerful scene. It epitomized a young, inexperienced fighter finding the courage within them to face overwhelming odds. It was nearly 40 years ago and I still remember it vividly. For the better. Faye Grant is such a talented and beautiful actress.
Powerful indeed. It's also included in the soundtrack suite elsewhere on the channel, if you enter that in the search you'll find it. More V content soon!✌
@@DanielAppleton-lr9eq Too late! I already reviewed the reboot series in a recent video, feel free to comment to tell me if you agree with it, haha! ✌👍
Have to say V, is one of the best things from the 1980's. I still love it. Marc Singer is the man. Wish it can be remade again but with better pacing, and more action.
There's another video on the channel with V action edited together, search for V soundtrack suite and it should come up. I agree its one of the best of the 80s! 👍
@@filmdirt saw it. Great scenes! The food processing plant is my favorite. Love the courage of the freedom fighters even after getting their tails kicked!
I adored these miniseries as a kid (the weekly series not so much!) and while they have retained a lot of their charm (and arguably even more of their relevance) as time has passed there are definitely some aspects of the production that have not aged well. But I maintain that the shot of Julie tearing John's mask off is one of the best practical effects I've ever seen. Every few years I revisit it, expecting it to finally look a bit crap by the latest standards, but after four decades it still works.
@@filmdirt I hadn't seen that so I've checked it out. Some very nice work, and from the ratings on the thumbnails for your other videos we seem to have broadly similar tastes. I'm going to make my way through some of those if I can find the time, and in the meantime subscribed for new stuff. 😁
The rich woman when The Resistance reveals what the Visitors are, "It's just a trick." she says - she becomes a main entrée of the Visitors later in the series. 😱 Lesson: Never help them. You fail them, you are food.
I don't know if it was intentional or not on the part of the creators of the series, but during the gunfire sequences, they do well showing the difference between the "amateurs" and "professionals." Ham, Chris, Martin and even Donovan (having covered so much fighting, he probably learned quite a lot) are portrayed as disciplined fighters -- careful, deliberate aiming, short bursts of automatic fire at visible targets, while the others are shown fighting determinedly, but using a lot more ammo and with less accuracy.
This series puts everything else to shame. The brutality of the visitors is terrible. A masterpiece of cinematic art. Diana has everything under control. I remember.
As a kid..I always thought the Visitors weapons were so cool (the design of them). As an adult....yeah...they are still cool as fuck. The one issue I had with the series is that they used alot of the same footage from the original or the final battle. Especially with the shuttle fighting scenes.
NBC didn't want to spend money for new special effects, and they didn't want to spend money for better writers. That's the reason the actual show bombed. In my opinion they used V to pull them out of a hole that they dug themselves into. It worked. People stared watching other shows on NBC. Once NBC waz #1 everybody watched everything else but V. It didn't take long for V to just disappear.
V when it came out in 1984 was an excellent reminder of the rise to power of the Nazis in Germany, pre World War Two, in the closing days of the Weimar Republic and how the Nazis demonised the Jews.
I remember watching this when it first came out, superb series. I did hear that the original author was looking to remake it, would be good with the special effects today. The remake in 2009 was absolute crap
Loved this series in the 80s, one of the best! Funny when you watch it now though because an advanced race that travelled the galaxy didn't have any drones, advanced autonomous weapons tracking, AI and so on. Could've taken over from orbit! lol.
The way they showed how the Visitors on this show reminded me of the Alien Apes from Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla (1974) where the aliens were shown the same way with fake faces that were ripped off like cheap plastic.
I remember that. I know it was a ripoff of Planet of the Apes, but that was always one of my favourite Showa aliens. (Them and the Planet X aliens). Watching them as a kid at my local theatre was "a happy moment" (If you know, you know)
Lol the last part with old used footage.... No wonder that tv series sucked... God... I have not seen this in ages and i rather not see it ever again. The original Miniseries is great though! Thanks for the memories uploader
I didn't mind the reused footage-Battlestar Galactica did this too. It was the way the plots soon went weird. As a kid in the 80s, some of them were uninteresting
You forgot the most important parts as to why they did and why Julie stood there with a gun fighting off a bigger foe... Like in the beginning of first. It was made that way by Kenneth Jonhson so show the resilience of resistance fighers!

When Julie tears off John's face the special effects for that is insanely good for 1984.

6:52 Michael "badass" Ironside. This show made me love this guy.
A head of its time. A classic
V was the best! The plot and drama reminds us of what is happening in the world today with politics and totalitarian ruling.
Sure does, with guys like Putin and Lying Trump
