- Опубліковано 11 жов 2019
- This is a guide to fixing the "shudder" problem in the 2016 Camaro. We have heard that this may not be a permanent fix, so we may have to do this process over again as this is only our first time.
Here are the links to the filter and fluid:

No shit
I'm having the shudder problem as well with only 32k miles on my Camaro. The dealerships/Chevy needs to own up and do a recall to fix this issue! Too many people have this same issues. I was told the Fluid in the transmission is no longer used due to issues; well they are the ones that sold it with that fluid!
I have a 2022 with 20k miles mines does it as well…..
@Eli G You should be under warranty. Take it in and they will replace the fluid. They told me that will fix the problem. But Def do it while your under warranty
@@shaunadixon5111 so do a transmission flush and change? I keep hearing it’s that or bad torque converter…. It’s just weird because even camaro I’ve driven shifts just bad and now I’m having the problem
@Eli G they told me it was the old transmission fluid they used. They said it retains moisture which causes the fluid to break down and cause they shuddering/shacking. They are now using that mobile brand the guy shows in the video. They said they use a system to jet all the old fluid out and it's more then just replacing it. Either way you should be covered. I have a 2018 that is only 5 months out of warranty so I filed an appeal and they covered the charges. It was almost 700 bucks!!
I just hope it fixes the problem
I have a 2014 Rs Camaro, is it the same transmission fluid? And how many quartz?
Did you add the ACDelco too ? If yes why what’s the difference or why did you mix the fluids ?
Hello there and hopefully, you still read comments.
I have an automatic 4 cylinder turbo LT 2016 and this is happening to me. At around 25mph is shudders and vibrates and then at 45mph same thing. I have about 56k miles on it.
I really hope changing out the tran fluid corrects this issue. I love this car
Did it fix it?
How many quarts do I need?
Did this fix it?
Did I spot a cracked in you exhaust pipe?
Great video
How do you check the fluid level??
Is that the same with a 2.0?
So did it fix the issue with shudder
Mine doesn't shudder but second gear is always rough, no matter how many times i take it back to get fixed they just make it worse. Last fix was for a valve body. Made no difference at all and just made it shift worse, could it be the tuning?
There is a special procedure to learn the clutch packs that can be done in GDS2, but u need a nascar race track to do it :))) or maybe it also works on a dyno, idk.....
Does anybody know exactly how much fluid goes in the transmission pan
11 total 3.5 for flush
Does this also work on 2017
same problem with a 2018. Thanks for the info. we need a 5.3 camaro
im having the same issue with my 2018 , did you get yours fixed yet ??? i took it in to the dealership yesturday but they told me its coming out of my pocket since the 2018 doesnt fall in the recall cathegory i will have my transmission flushed for around 600$ dollars its BS but ohh well hopefully that will fix the shutter issue .
@@Anime_Empire_2.0 did it fix it :/?
@@josejuarez283 YESSSS first day the car came out of the shop and it was driving like brand new , i didnt even have to wait for the 200 mile mark for the fluid to adjust the mechanic said that the dealership puts the wrong kind of fluid in these cars and it creates water inside the transmission , most of the time a flush and the right fluid will permanently fix the issue i don't know if also applies to the 2016 - 2017 camaros but i have put in 3000 miles after the flush and she still running well and strong good luck !!
@@Anime_Empire_2.0 that’s good to hear man :) I hear nightmare forums from even 2018 models after flush still having it until converter is changed and small percentage still have it after that. Has the blue label Mobil fluid improved the situation? I have a 2016 SS I've owned for over a year, closing in on 18k miles and I am gearing up to change the tranny fluid. I don't have bad shudder issues, but the shift from 1st to 2nd gear is pretty rough and at times other shifts can lag. Hoping this new fluid takes care of it long-term - Not a fan of the idea that I'll need to do this procedure every 2 years!
The latest version of the Mobil-1 blue formulation is working much better than the earlier versions however keep in mind the recommended process for doing this conversion is not drain and fill like you see in the above video which only changes out less than half of the old fluid but rather doing a complete fluid replacement at an authorized service center using the Bosch tool that was brought in specifically to address this issue. Your best bet is to have it done with the officially recommended procedure.
Did it work for you?
@@MEA22 I only got about 5.5qts out when I dropped my pan. But after putting just over 5.5qts of the blue label Mobil LV stuff, it does shift a lot better. It was a noticeable improvement. I figure I will give it another year, then do it again. I don't actually drive the car that much right now.
Did this solve your problem? Mine shifts rough from 1st to second also others gears are fine my car dosent shudder just 1st to second is rough.
I did a drain and fill once, so didn't get all of the old fluid out. The shift from 1st to 2nd is still rough when it's cold out, or before the engine has been running for a while. I did notice some improvement from the one drain and fill, but I understand I need to do it a couple times to get most or all of the old transmission fluid out. I may do another one this fall (in couple months).@@rudyhernandez2475
The TSB for this transmission is to first flush and I mean totally flush not pull down the pan and change the filter that doesn't work and the dealer is flushing it three times. If that doesn't work then the torque converter must be removed and replaced and the fluid fully replaced with the mobile one blue label.
I have a 2017 1lt I been having an issue with it going into first and second gear it gives off a kick when shifting to those gear should I have it flushed...??
I also have that issue...did you flush it? Or do anything to fix it?
@@luisflores438 I did. without realizing it I was still under the warranty. I got it done before it pass. The shaking is gone but I still have a light kick in the shift.
I got the same issue in my 2017 1lt with code p0777 any info how to fix that will be appreciated
@@tampaflorida1984 im going to get mine checked tomorrow hopefully they can tell me if its the torque converter or something else...
@@luisflores438 I hope it does work for you fingers crossed
Hey Richard hear your camera all jacked up
Gen6 camaro
Yes exactly
Flush is a bandaid fix. The problem it the tune. To high of a slip ratio in lockup. Take it to a speed shop and have the transmission tuned properly. That will get rid of the shudder for good. Do it befor you tear up the lock up in the converter.
Do you know what to tell the tuner to tune for? I heard something about turning off tcc lock up in 1-3 and t stat mod.is this correct..and do you recommend changing to this mobile 1 fluid?
Interesting!
I have the same issue and just started like 3 days ago, was thinking on taking it for a full service soon. Not sure how long; I have just checked the oil and is Greyish/Brown.
Hey, I did a flush then went ahead and replaced the torque converter. Still has a slight shudder. Not nearly as bad tho. Someone else mentioned a trans tune as well. I think that'll be my next bet. It's paid off at only 38k. So I'll doctor on it a lil while. If nothing seems to work, I'll sell or trade 😭😭😭😭. Thanks for the info
is the flush just a bandaid to this issue? Debating a circle D torque converter - wondering if anyone knows if thats a final fix??
If you catch it before to much damage is done then no. The problem was the fluid they were using was absorbing moisture causing it to break down. The new Mobil 1 fluid does not.
i have a feeling it came back? please tell me it didnt.. i have a 17 SS and it started doing it.. mine is still under warranty but i really dont want to take it back to the dealer..
What did you end up doing I'm in the boat with my Camaro
I have a 17 Camaro 2SS A8 that I fought with for months. Took to stealership a total of 4 times.....3 times they flushed transmission and the last time I made them install a new converter/flush. After they finally installed the new converter, my issues went away. Good luck, don’t let them push you around. I was at 59,750 miles when I told them they were changing the converter!!!! Close to 60k.
@@TheJoe111599 how many miles were on the car when you started experiencing the issue?
@@devincook3339 the original owner had issues around 40k miles. I bought it and had issues at approx 52k, 55k, and last time was right at 60k.
Since last year I’ve built the engine and installed a CircleD converter. Problem solved and hope to never have it again.
Is it hp oil
Hi, I'm new to your channel, I have a question. I don't know if the filter of a 2014 RS Camaro will help me. IT WILL BE THE SAME PART NUMBER.
Check with the chassis number
Was this a long-term fix or should I just replace my dang torque converter?
It's a maintenance to address issues with the material used. No need to swap out your torque converter. It will still happen.
@@pbboeye1012 thanks for the response!✌🏼
I have a 2016 automatic 3.6L at 22,000 miles with no shudder problems, should I still switch out the transmission fluid?
You may get the problem eventually... this car had 50k miles - so changing it wouldn’t be a bad idea!
@@timmymarker4276 Would you recommend a transmission flush instead of just draining the transmission fluid, and how many quarts of mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATV HP does a v6 automatic take?
I am sure you have hit 25k by now but I have the shudder right @25k and 8 months out of Powertrain warranty. If I had known prior it was an issue I would have been flushing every 10k. Hope yours is still shudder free. Keep it flushed or upgrade TC
@@craigd6933 did you end up using that transmission fluid in you v6 and did it work well for you ?
@@dominicdascanio Yes it worked well for my camaro, planning on doing it every 10,000 miles
It is better to get the vehicle in position, level, and then let it sit overnight to allow as much fluid as possible to drain from transmission back into the pan. My experience is around 6.5 quarts total will come out to include the drained filter. Instead of dropping the pan first, use a transfer pump to pull out as much fluid as possible- this should be at least 5 quarts. It is pretty easy to insert the transfer pump tube into the transmission's fill hole, and it is far less messy than tilting a full pan. The fill plug, I can pull out with my fingers, avoid putting a tool on it if you can.
Now after the pan clean, filter change, refill, level adjustment with the warm up procedure- wait about 300 miles for the new fluid to act like a detergent, and keep in mind the total fluid capacity is around 12 quarts, and only around half has been changed at this point. Use the transfer pump to pull out 5 quarts and refill, and adjust level again. You could repeat the 5 quart replacement again in 300 miles, but I am opting to just service the transmission every 30K miles instead of the 45K stated in the manual. And as always, do it your self, avoid trusting the stealership or other hack job shops that do not give your vehicle the level of care and attention to detail as you the owner will provide.
Lastly, while it is best to as accurately as possible keep track of how much fluid is pulled out and put that much back in, plus about 10 oz, it is important to do the following once you have refilled, and ready to adjust the level 1. start the engine, and get the transmission between 131 and 149 degrees. (you can press the accelerator pedal and rev to about 2500 RPM to aid in this if you still are not up to 131 degrees after five minutes) 2. at idle, foot on the brake, shift to drive, wait five seconds, shift to neutral and wait five seconds, shift to reverse and wait five seconds, shift back to park. 3. Minimally, wait at least a minute, but better to be at least five minutes, and then drain out the excess fluid by removing that lower drain plug on the pan until it is only dripping (no longer a steady stream, just a drip, drip, drip). If no stream is coming out when you open the plug, not enough fluid was put back into the transmission. Shut down the engine, add fluid, and repeat the process.
constantbuzz
Helpful thanks
So for the whole flush you need 12qtz? I heard it was 8
@@merttt1923 It's not a flush, its a drain and refill. Flush involves a powered machine, which will replace nearly all the fluid with new, but does nothing to clean the pan, nor change the filter. Dropping the pan releases about 6.5 quarts. After that, I do 1 or 2 siphons from the fill port 500 to 1000 miles apart, which pull out about 5 quarts each. But doing the math, the first 6.5 from the pan drop is replacing 100% old fluid with new fluid. The next siphon removes about a 50/50 mix of old and new-ish fluid, so the net result is about 2.5 quarts of old fluid removed and replaced with new. So now we have about 75% of the old fluid replaced with new. The second siphon is only going to remove 1.25 quarts of old fluid, with 3.75 quarts of new-ish mixed in it, so this second siphon and any additional are really starting to give us diminishing returns.
If money is no object, get a flush, first (assuming the shop you use is pushing in the correct fluid), then do a pan drop, clean, filter replacement, and add 6.5 quarts back in. We are at about 400 bucks in this scenario.
constantbuzz thank you foe the reply. Money is not an issue but my car is on the way to turkey and there is no mobil 1 atf lv hp here . I brougjt 8 qts from Usa in my luggage lol. But thats all i have and if i wanna mix with the mobil 1 atf here. The best atf they have is mobil 1 fully synthetic dextron 3 H. So dont know what is the best way in this scenerio.? I did also bring new seal and filter pan
Mert Ciller
Buy the new transmission fluid from Jegs.com they offer global delivery, if you have shudder need to change the fluid 3 times.
I did duy 3x6 = 18 qtz and did the flush . Now everything is OKAY.
1- Suck out the old fluid.
2- Remove the pan, clean it, add new filter, install the pan with the old gasket (reusable).
3- Add 6 qtz.
4- Drive for 30 min.
5- Do the previous things again but no need to remove the pan, just suck out the fluid and add new fluid again.
Don’t forget to check the fluid level.
Good luck 🍀
Hello, does this Mobil fluid also work for the V6 transmission? Or just for the 8 speed
There are 3 transmissions Gm has used for these vehicles 10 speed 8 speed and 6 speed so you’ll have to ask a dealer what you have or you can dig through your VIN check
The LV HP is for the 8L45 8L90 8 speeds
Dexron VI for 6 Speeds
ULV for the 10 speeds
@@TylerRivera635 appreciate your information!
@@TylerRivera635I made a mistake when adding fluid to the transmission. Do you know what problem it causes if you add detrox VI fluid?
@@danielguevara13 The 8 speed transmissions came with dexron vi from the factory so it shouldn’t cause a major issue. They changed it to HP LV because of a shuddering issue with the torque converters. If you have a ten speed just flush the fluid again with ULV and you should be good. I’m not sure what the issue you had was.
@@TylerRivera635 Hello, thank you for answering. It is 8 speeds. I had the problem that the oil cooler line was connected incorrectly. I had a fluid leak and I refilled with Dexrox. VI, one gallon I needed more. I went to the dealer and they told me it was the wrong fluid and I should flush all the fluid because it would damage the transmission.
What happens if the transmission fluid doesn’t fix this issue?
Some recommend another flush, after that a Torque Converter change.

I have bad news for all of you. I took my 2016 camaro into the dealership about a year ago. They did 3 flushes and put a new converter in a year ago. The problem just started again when i shift in first to second gear after it being ok for a year. I cant believe GM isnt owning up to this. I hate to say it but I might have to sell my car. I dont wanna but this is just too much hassle.
YOU SOUND LIKE A LITTLE BITCH. QUIT YOUR CRYING SHIT BREAKS
I've only had my car for two years and I just replaced the torque converter. Someone who works on GM cars said its in the transmission tune. So I may do a flush, and a tune next. If that doesn't solve it, I'm selling it. Crazy thing is it's paid in full. 😭😭😭😭😭
@@AmarisLW Its sad we gotta sell them because of this :(
You don't show where the other end of the tube goes??
I had my 2016 Z06 (650 HP/650 Torque) LT4 transmission system completely flushed at the dealership - there is 26 quarts of transmission fluid in the entire system, replacing 6 quarts in the transmission doesn't come close to replacing all of the fluid - therefore, to completely replace ALL of your "bad Mobil 1" and replace it with the "new Mobil 1 formulation" you'll have to do a complete flush - again, 26 quarts, anything less will not resolve the shudder problem - I hope this helped.
are you speaking from personal experience ?
Mr Davis in my case yes , I went to the dealer and they flush the whole system , 20 quarts of mobil 1 blue stuff , pretty expensive BTW
I did one flush with 6qt and resolved the shudder issue I had for more than a year. I did the flush a year back ago and didnt come back
It doesn’t have 26 quarts... it has 12... which will be about 1/2 when flushing it which will make a substantial difference!
