- This video was created by South Metro Fire Rescue in 2009 for the 20th anniversary of Captain John Hager's line of duty death. Captain Hager was killed in a building fire at 5119 S. Yosemite Street in Greenwood Village, Colorado after the roof collapsed. Significant changes to command, communications, staffing, equipment and training occurred as a result of this fire. We will never forget the sacrifice that Captain Hager and his family made.
So sad when a first responders loses his life. May God bless all the first responders of the nation.
May God bless all the first responders everywhere around the globe!
My dad is a firefighter.
Even though this video was produced in 2009 I had not seen it until today. Great and touching video!! I had the privilege of working for and with most of the brave and good men featured in this Video. I was well aware of the LODD of Captain Hager but never really knew the story. I knew the address but didnt put everything together until last July when I did a commercial loan building inspection of this site with the property owner. The property owner had nothing but praise for the men and women of SMFRA (Castlewood at the time of the fire) and he was also the property owner at the time of the fire. As we were talking I put it together that this was the building where Captain Hager lost his life. Kind of gave me a strange feeling at the time.. Even though I have been retired for several years I will always have a strong commitment to the firefighters I worked with, and the work we did in fire prevention!
God rest your sole Captain John Hager.

So TRUE
It is a hard day when you lose a colleague. But videos like can and do teach if you are willing to listen and learn the lessons they can teach. Because in spite of the training etc things can and do go wrong. How you handle them can make the difference between a funeral and going home.
Man I can’t wait to become a fire fighter
