I respect everyone's opinion about this game but honestly i still like playing 2d mario games as much as 3d ones. Mario is still the most satisfying platforming game for me and every once in a while i still need to satisfy an itch on playing this style of mario games. It's like smash and mario kart you can't notice a lot of changes but still people enjoy it
Smash and Mario Kart has more changes than this. I love 2D Marios too, but, repackaging things like this isn't good.

Kristian Azarcon I know I’m late, but I also don’t like the game but I feel like every Nintendo console needs a modern Super Mario Bros. as it’s Nintendo’s signature game. I still agree with you and when I had a choice of any 2D Mario game for my switch, I picked Mario Maker 2 as it has more content to offer for the same price.

@@Nexodon um, no. It is very 3D. 2.5D is when you have a pseudo 3D look in a 2D plane, or 2D elements with a 3D camera. Mario 3D world is full 3D models in a full 3D environment with multiple perspectives, soo...
@@sir_john_hammond There are 3 camera orientations in single player (which don't need to be changed), and camera is locked in multiplayer. It's 2.5D for the most part.
Nexodon the camera being locked has no bearing on if it's 3D, when the perspective of the level changes periodically and the characters are able to move on every axis. Most 3D games have fixed cameras, even first person shooters.

I never even heard about the Wii U to be honest. I was buying every couch co-op games on Switch to have some variety when friends visit though. So it was worth it just for that. I just get to do local co-op with switch so much more often than any other console I played on.
My 6 year old daughter loves it, and especially that you can play as Princess Peach. And I love playing it with her, which is the most important thing for me. That said, sure I agree on some of what you're saying. I payed $50, but that's still kind of steep. But hey... go play a game you like and be happy about that :)

you can play as actual princess peach (rather than toadette as "peachette") in super mario 3D world and she doesn't even get kidnapped! a rare occurrence honestly. you can also play as rosalina and it's just a way more interesting game. but unfortunately it hasn't been brought to the switch.

Because Nintendo wouldn't be able to sell you another 2D Mario game if they release SMM first. It would be like trying to sell someone a gallon of milk when you already sold them the cow.
Plus the 3DS version was pointless without sharing levels, would sharing levels be weird on the Switch? I wonder? Would you need to subscribe to online? Need friend codes? no Mii Verse, etc..

I love playing this game with my mom and the 2d style reminds her of when she played with her brother when she was little. Coin battle also is so fun and it’s added hours and hours of more fun. The superstar world also has kept us so entertained! Having fun and just laughing when we die makes it personally so fun. Idk if anyone feels the same way but I personally enjoy this game and has been super worth it for the hours of legit fun we’ve had 🥰❤️Also I think his points are completely valid and this video was really entertaining lol. 💕

Well tbf, Super Mario 3D World was based of Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS. So technically, it wasn't a new take on everything, it was a better remake of the same concept of a 2011 3DS game.
But it is a newer franchise
A GoTY released in 2017 with hundreds of hours of content: *60 bucks*
A port released in 2019 with lackluster amounts of content: *60 bucks*

The Law It’s because people have been willing to pay that much for other ports. Value is not objective, it’s based on what people are willing to pay. If people didn’t buy these ports, Nintendo would lower the prices. However, people keep buying them at a $60 price point. It’s not scummy, that’s just how markets work.

I never played it on the wi or wi u so I love this game. Its challenging playing with my girl but we beat it and got all the coins. Some of the levels are gorgeous btw. Every world looks different

@@aryan-gi1hw I’d say it’s the best NSMB game, for me it’s blows out 2 and Luigi U and Wii was a great game but I feel like U makes up for everything Wii failed to do, such as the empty and uninspired level design that Wii had. It comes close to DS but I’d still say it beats DS in most areas

I’m okay with this. I bought it. I liked playing it conviently since I didn’t have to plug in my Wii U again. I’m also a big replayer. I’ve played some Kirby games like 7 times maybe more.
Luigi U has completely different more challenging stages along with the 100 second timer
Buy the slippery control of Luigi kills any fun on this to me.

This game wasn't made for me, you, or anyone watching this channels. I work at a video game store, and literally everyday I either get a phone call or someone in person asking for a Mario game on the switch. And when they say Mario they don't mean something innovative like 3d world or Odyssey they mean super Mario Bros on NES. They aren't interested in anything new or exciting they just want something simple, recognizable, and nostalgic. This game is for them, this game is for the people who stood in line for 6 hours to buy a Wii just to play Wii sports twice and put it away in a closet.
True..I use to work for Gamestop and parents do not care which Mario it is. As long as they see Mario they buy it
I liked this game well enough but it's not worth 60 bucks in 2019, especially since it launched on WiiU at 50.
I don't really think that's a fair statement. I wouldn't pay 60 bucks for the game, but I do like coming back to linear 2d Mario games whenever I'm angry or frustrated, it's just so simple and it weirdly makes me happy.

Releasing a port of an "old" game at full price is just a no go...and yeah...there are much better Wii U-games (or Wii/Gamecube-games) that they could do a port for the Switch (Xenoblade Chronicles X and Super Mario Sunshine would probably be my favorites).
Xenoblade X is the only port that having a 60$ price tag would be reasonable, for the mass content you're getting. Oh, and at this point in time, I think a Sunshine remake would be more fitting than a remaster.
Also add in Xenoblabe Chronicles 1 as well; that game's pretty expensive, especially for a Wii title.
If they ported sunshine to switch I'd be quick to the store with my money.

To be fair, I loved that Nintendo ported the game. I didn't have a WiiU, neither a Wii. This is my first big console, and I was very happy that I could get my hands on a polished classic Mario game finally.

It’s a welcome addition. However, it should have been priced at $40. But since it includes Super Luigi U, I would say that $50 would have been the most fair price.
It's so nice to see Mario 3D World, TMS and Fatal Frame made it to switch eventually.

Man, you took the words out of my mouth. The last Nintendo system I owned was a 2DS, so when I bought the Switch, in today's gaming market, I expected a lot of the Wii U stuff I missed out on to get ported, primarily Mario 3D World. I keep hoping it will happen at some point, though.
At least nintendo still make single player games without microtransactions and dont tell gamers if you don't like it then dont buy it like some other company we know.....🙄. If that other company that starts with an E and has arts in it would just for once cater to the gamers request and have just one single player game without microtransactions. Smh.

Nintendo already put Captain Toad on the switch, and correct me if I am wrong, but I think that Captain Toad was built on the same engine as 3D world so it could likely happen and they are just waiting because it might impact Odyssey’s sales.

I actually really really enjoyed super Mario bros U and I’ve been wanting to play it for years but the game disk actually burnt out on my Wii-U so I had to throw it out and haven’t been able to play it since. Can’t wait to play it on the switch as it’s one of my favorite Mario games since I’m getting a switch for christmas this year ^w^
While I kinda understand why people are upset by it, because it basically plays the same as all the other “new” MARIO games, I still never had a Wii U and want to play this, mainly because I had a lot of fun with my brother playing the one on the wii. Also ports are just ports, it’s not a new game. If you had the old one and expected something new, than you just got dissatisfied cause it was the same, it’s kinda your fault for buying it
I can't understand why anyone would be upset of the release. Just like every other game for every other system, whoever is salty about its release isn't forced to buy it. Everyone acts like this game is somehow taking the space a different game can take. If more people gave the WII U a chance we may not have so many WII U ports right now.

I just bought my first switch and I can say as a 25 year old I completely loved it ! Made me feel like a kid again and it was kinda challenging at certain spots but maybe it felt fun for me because I haven’t played Mario in ten years + and this is my first switch ( oled)
0:32 I remember feeling this way even more so when New Super Mario Bros. Wii was first brought to my attention. When New Super Mario Bros. first debuted on the Nintendo DS, it was at least a unique concept at the time. It was a 2-D Mario platformer, but with certain moves (like the wall jump and ground pound) that didn't exist prior to Super Mario 64. I thought to myself, "Cool, that's a neat idea. They've made a 2-D Mario game to pay homage to the NES and SNES classics, but they've made it fresh by including moves from the 3-D Mario games." But then the Wii version came out, and I was honestly confused at first. I wondered if it was just some kind of port or remaster of the DS version or something. But no, it was actually being marketed and sold as a whole new game for $59.99. Even as an avid Nintendo fan, I never could bring myself to buy New Super Mario Bros. Wii at full price. I ended up finding it used somewhere, because it just seemed off to have to pay $59.99 for a game that seemed like way too much of it was just more of the same.
So where's that skyward sword port that we ACTUALLY wanted?
While I'd buy that too because it's one of the few TLoZ games that haven't been on a handheld as of yet, I'm perfectly fine with getting this first.
The only issue I really see with it is someone else's suggestion from the release trailer that it was a perfect chance to do New Super Mario Bros. All Stars by including the 3/DS and Wii titles. Never played the Wii one but the 3/DS ones were great.

yes we do older games getting ported to new consoles is always good provided the game is good. There is no problem with them doing it, if you dont want to buy it thats fine but it doesn't effect you in anyway whether they do or not.

I played the Duluxe version of this game and is actually pretty fun. I Was playing with my nephew and it fun getting in each other way. You can put yourself back into a bubble to save yourself from dying. The game is more fun when you played 4 people in multiplayer mode.
To me ports like these are for the people who skipped the Wii U, and I think we should expect by now that Nintendo rarely lowers the price of their games. I enjoyed "New Super Mario Bros U", but not enough to buy it again, but I don't think we're the targeted audience. I also think we'll be seeing "Super Mario 3D World" and/or "Super Mario Maker" sometime later this year on the Switch. To me it's a no harm, no foul.
They could target both by making it at most 30$.

@WWE 4 lifeSorry, friend, but I don't think you can compare a full game to micro-transactions, especially when not everyone owns the game. Nintendo rarely lowers the price of their first party games, and whether that's right or wrong "New Super Mario Bros U" is selling very well despite being a $60 game and a port. If people didn't think it was worth the extra $20 it wouldn't be selling so well.
i find it funny when they rerelease a game that said on the back only for the [insert console here]. also the Wii U version i have has Super Luigi U, so that is not a new thing for the Switch.

No one ever mentions it and it makes me sad! Because imo this is the one they shouldve put on the Switch in HD, since it never came out on a HD system!
I think it was technically the OG 3D worlds without the cat suit, so that might be why no one is interested in 3D land

I agree - 3D world got a ton of hate for being short when it came out but I really enjoyed it and, actually, haven’t finished it. It’s one of 4 games I really need to finish on the WiiU, especially now that I finally pulled the trigger on a Switch with the Lite.
Wii U: Buys a 2D Mario platformer. Is disappointed because it's a 2D Mario platformer.
Switch: Same 2D Mario platformer is rereleased for $60. Still disappointed it's a 2D Mario platformer.

Different type of 3d Mario game and odyssey was released a while now for It not to affect the sales of a 3d world port.

I think new super Mario Brothers u really really amped up the level design from the other games and made it one of the best Mario games ever
The added a lot of things in nsmbu: The new powerup, baby yoshies, a new world map, new levels, challenge mode, ...

Actually I'll be honest, this game surprised me on the Wii U. I was about to criticize Nintendo for too much repetition with this series, but it's a pristine entry. Lots of worlds, perfect tight play control, and splendid multiplayer. It's Mario Bros. at it's finest actually.
I want something similar like DKC Returns/Tropical Freeze. Like 2.5D, the camera slightly angled so the game doesn't look flat. Nice lighting, shadows, graphics and fantastic gameplay. Similar to the old Mario games but mixed with new elements that allows experimental stuff.
