    Stroud has been an ideal QB from day 1 for the Texans. He's 21, mature, has the right build, accurate arm, throws with anticipation, and seems to learn immediately from his mistakes. He's also been a humble guy this entire time. Houston has needed this for half a decade.

    Stroud was my favorite QB coming out in this year's draft, however we should hold off on anointing him a "good" or "bad" player at this point. The sample size is just too small.
    That being said, all the indicators are there for him to be a franchise QB and that is very encouraging. Being a good QB in the NFL is about toughness and consistency in addition to talent. It's a marathon rather than a sprint. As a Chiefs fan, the city of Houston deserves to have a good QB and I'm hoping they will be competing with the upper echelon of NFL teams consistently in the near future with Stroud.

    His anticipation is something he developed at OSU. To have that you have to trust your Wrs. The wrs were so much better than any other wr core in the nation that he knew he could throw it where he was supposed to and they would be there. It’s translated very well into the nfl

    • @curtisgriffinjr743
      @curtisgriffinjr743 Рік тому +3

      That's a credit to his recievers in Houston too. While unheralded (and even outright disregarded and disrepsected by national media), they're performing in a way that allows Stroud to put the ball where its supposed to be, which speaks volumes to all three of them (Collins, Woods, Dell) being better than advertised or expected.
      And I think that if Houston cracks the 7 or 8 win threshold, it will be because those three guys prove themselves to be a cut above. Heck, if they crack that threshold, there's a good chance that not only would Stroud be heavily favored to be OROY, but he might face competition from his own receiver, Dell who is on track to catch 1300 yards.
      I still think Slowik's best bet is to go with a 3 receiver set, TE, and RB out of the shotgun until the line issues are resolved. Yes Stroud didnt get sacked last week and, again, yes that was because of improved line play, however, it was MORE because Stroud moved well in anticipating the pocket collapsing and sensing pressure. Expecting a depleted line to have this type of game again (when they were horrid the first two games) is asking for trouble and expecting Stroud to keep bailing himself out is asking for even more trouble. Solid like to see more creativity in the offense in that regard to protect Stroud. Maybe even some empty backfield sets. Anything. Just give the guy some help until the actual help arrives.

      @@curtisgriffinjr743 I think the plan originally is to let Pierce's run game dictate the offense and run play action on the success of that. Problem is without a healthy O-line the ability to successfully threaten the run is near nonexistent. So Stroud has been getting the lions share of touches to get the offense going.

  • @OkagaCalifornia
    @OkagaCalifornia Рік тому +3

    If the Texans come out and beat the Steelers, I think they should definitely be considered a dark horse in the playoff race. The division isn't that strong and in the first 3 games, their offense has been insanely productive and the defense is only going to get better as their players heal. Same with the O-Line, if CJ is given proper protection, he can tear apart defenses.

      If Stroud had gone to the Bears, he would be in the very same position that Fields is in and Young would be broken into pieces. Caleb should absolutely refuse if the Bears end up somehow with that pick. Until the Bears figure out how to call a game plan to suit it's QB, no quarterback will succeed in that program. I'm getting really tired of seeing Bears fans popping up on Stroud's feed trying to compare the two. They are different types of quarterbacks. And by the way, Justin Fields did not run a lot in college because he didn't have to, so that right there tells me all I need to know.

      You can say what you want about the 'Texans' but this coaching staff with this lackluster roster is getting things right on offense. Even with the injuries in the O-line, Slowik (the OC) is still getting Stroud to execute the play action and have the receivers just get their routes right. So Stroud can trust in his instincts to stay poised and let it rip when he sees the opening. Sometimes those good looks don't even result in a completion but it is still positive to see Stroud's aggression paying off when it does. Meanwhile the Bears play calling is so atrocious that even when Fields has the clean pocket and time to throw, his guys are covered and the defense will settle for him trying to run it beyond the sticks.

    Another bonus for him is that he gets to out west again. He's from Cali and his friends and family won't have to get on a plane just to visit anymore lol. Kudos to the Texans for understanding him and giving him control on day one. The young man plays his best in warmer weather as well.

    Not only did they get it right but the staff and scheme just makes sense! Seeing Stroud rip it the way he does from under center reminds me of how Kirk or 2018 Goff would do it. Which also gets the most out of a sub-par receiver group who may seem limited but is getting the most out of their strengths. First it was Nico Collins getting some explosive plays. Then it was Tank Dell getting a 100+ burner of a game. Good schemes when executed can help elevate a lackluster offensive roster. Also its fun to watch that offense do well on the field. I don't particularly look forward for young aspiring starting QBs attack a defense with uninspired play calling and not take chances to pick apart mismatches.

      That is not a sub par receiver group.

      @@chrisanders713 I mean they certainly aren't proven... yet. Which is they key thing here. A good QB in a working system can help unlock those guys and figure out of they are long term fixtures around Stroud. Or are situational guys to attack the defense in specific ways. But this receiver group is certainly playing better than what Young (and maybe Richardson) has so far.
