You REALLY make me want to go beach combing. I live about 2hrs away from San Francisco. I have major access to great beaches, but Im so busy trying to make money with doing door dash. I did find some birch yesterday though. Lots of landscapers around. Found some trimming a birch. Little branches purfect for my little gnomes and wood spirits. I really want some drift wood though. Soon Robert, soon.

Bud I always found that Birchwood bark has a smell kinda like kerosene and make great fire starter so smell the bark

Pickin up wood that's just rottin away is only bad because some bureaucrat figured out a way to get money by makin a rule against it. The wood will just be wasted unless you pay a fee to collect it. Makes perfect sense to me. Let it go to waste unless they can make money off letting you use it.

Yep cedar for sure
White "paper" birch is pretty buttery. Theres a lot of it in rich peoples yards here but never anything to find out in the woods for harvesting

Hey man great video as always. The wood at aprox the 7 min mark is birch for sure. There is an google lens section on your google search bar of most phones that if you take a pic of the bark and seach the photo it may help to identify the wood . I'm on the atlantic coast and have tons of birch on the beachs but no cotton wood or cedar. what are spruce and pine like in your opion. Thanks for any advice and keep up the great videos.

I know how you feel when you go beach combing and have to keep telling yourself that you don't need another piece of wood
because I collect minerals(rocks) and it drives me nuts to leave something I like.
Do you know if there is any cottonwood bark to be found in Calif. I have never had a piece to carve 😊

oh i meant to say ,i have carved a double ,like one on top of the other and i have done with a father and i have carved a baby one just showing its eyes and i leave the branches on but just cut them short

@@CarvingFusion thanks for the reply. For what it's worth, you (and Ryan Cook) have inspired me to set up a tent out back and start chainsaw carving. I just ordered a new Makita die grinder and have had a Dremel for awhile, just never carved with it. I'll be sure to tag you guys on here or Instagram. Carry On!!! #getshitdone
