Howard Hewitt, Jeffrey Daniels and Carolyn Griffey still tour today. Although they were very popular group here. But in the UK they are considered royalty
PS, yall have done Jody Watley before… you might recognize her here. She and Jeffrey Daniel, the third member of this group met when they were Soul Train dancers. And FUN FACT, Jeffrey is credited with creating the Moonwalk! 😁
Jeffrey didn’t create the backslide, he was one of the dancers to popularize the dance. The Moonwalk is a circular gliding movement, the backslide has been seen in the 40s.
Another classic Howard Hewett, Shalamar's lead singer, was also featured on other songs through the years, like "I"d Still Say Yes" by Klymaxx, the original "Dolomite" movie, and Shalamar's other hit song "A Night To Remember"😎
The lead singers were Howard Hewitt, Jeffery Daniel and Jody Watley, as a group they were pretty successful (3 gold albums!) Jody and Howard went on to have solo careers, Jody Watley really blew up, her debut album went platinum and her sophomore album went gold! They were upbeat pop/r&b type sound, music you could dance to!
Shalamar had some really fun songs! Jody Watley is in this video and was part of the group before going solo. You guys reacted to "Looking For A New Love" by Jody, but check out "Don't You Want Me" and "Some Kind Of Lover", amongst others!
They're still going. A few weeks ago they were on This Morning, a popular daytime show here in the UK. I remember seeing them on Top of the Pops, Jeffrey debuted the moonwalk before Michael Jackson made it famous.
And Jeffrey Daniels also enthralled the whole of the UK on "Top of the Pops" with the back-slide (moonwalk) in 1982 (a year before Michael Jackson did it). Everybody was trying to do it at school the day after.
😂 Was anymore else yelling at the TV, "Jody Watley! Jody Watley!" Trying to share with them that's she's was part of the 3-some Shalamar? See, we are just family, sharing a throw back video 😅 I'm sure they'll figure it out after reading the comments 😊 ❤❤ memories of my teens
Yup, I did! I believe they were all Soul Train dancers who were formed into Shalimar by the producers of Soul Train. Remember when Jody went solo and became a big 80's artist? Rob Squad should check out some Karyn White too 😊

Aaawwww, dating myself here, but brings back memories of my teen years dancing in the discos, LOL. Always loved this song and group; the lead singer has such a great voice. There was also the Hues Corporation with Rock the Boat, another great dance tune.
Shalamar!! The lead singer was married to Nia Peoples (a popular 80's actress) for a time. The other two were once Soul Train dancers!!! After they broke up Jodi Watley and Howard Hewitt (the lead singer) had successful solo careers. I think the 3rd guy hosted a dance show in the UK!!
I love this song! This is Jody Watley, before her amazing solo career, Jeffrey Daniel, who taught MJ the moonwalk, and Howard Hewett, lead singer! They had a sting of hits in the late seventies and early eighties!Fun fact: Jody and Jeffrey danced together on Soul Train before joining Shalamar and ST host, Don Cornelius picked them for the group!❤❤
A great song by Shalamar is" This Is For The Lover In You. The lead singer is Howard Hewitt who has a great solo song called Say Amen. The Lady in the group is Jody Watley who you have reacted to as a solo artist. Some of her solo songs are Everything, Friends, Don't You Want Me, Real Love, and Some Kind of Lover.

‘Night to remember’, ‘There it is’, ‘I can make you feel good’ all great Shalamar tracks. Howard Hewett has one of the best soul voices in the business. Mike 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Shalamar!!!! Now this will be an interesting rabbit hole to go down through. Next Shalamar bangers: Make That Move, A Night To Remember, For The Lover In You. JEFFERY DANIELS was the one who Michael Jackson hired as a choreographer. So every single move MJ did from Thriller on was Jeffery Daniels. Check out his performance on Top of the Pops when he danced to A Night to Remember and did the moonwalk in 1981, way before Michael. The lead singer HOWARD HEWITT had a big gospel hit with Say Amen. JODY WATLEY had some bangers with Don’t You Want Me, Looking For A New Love, Still A Thrill.
Man I forgot about Shalamar. Back to my high-school years, drop some Lakeside, Gap Band, Brothers Johnson and I'll be on my way to home room. Thanks for posting!
YAAAAAAY! THANK YOU! 🎉😃👏💝 I've been dyin' for you to react to Shalamar and especially to this song! All of us fans, thank you! This song came out in 1979, which was my freshman year in high school, and I STILL can't get enough of it--or them. Howard Hewett's voice is soooooo good! I never got to see them in concert, but this reaction is timely. My musical bucket list will have one more check-off when I get to see Howard one week from tonight in Newport Beach, CA. I'm beside myself! Enjoy going down this rabbit hole, with each incarnation of the band and also Jodi Watley's solo career, which blew up in the mid 80's! Have fun!
I highly recommend Shalamar’s hit “Dancing In The Sheets”. I don’t know how big or underrated it was but it was in my opinion a fun and enjoyable song I think you enjoy reacting to Rob Squad if you haven’t already reacted to or listened to it.
Unfortunately, while it was a hit from the _FOOTLOOSE_ soundtrack, Jody and Geoffrey had left the group and were replaced Delisa Davis and Micki Free. ✌🏽
Shalamar was huge not just in the states, but in the UK as well; they sold out Wembly Arena. You must listen to b their songs "This is For The Lover In You", "Make That Move", “I Can Make You Feel Good”, “Over and Over” and A Night To Remember" to name a few.
Did you two ever realize that was Jody Whatley in the video? Shalamar's best song is "Dead Giveaway". Of course, Jody Whatley went solo after Shalamar and had several huge hits on her on - along with a Grammy Award.
Great pick! FYI Hip Hip turns 50, the birthdate of Hip Hop is Aug. 11 1973. I'd love to see you react to one of the early hits that played everywhere, Rappers Delight by The Sugarhill Gang
This is my sister and brother-in-laws song. She had been divorced and they met back in 1978 as they dated she told him he was her second chance at happiness, get second time around. They were married for 40 yrs till she passed away in 2020. A few mths later he was getting a haircut at Supercuts and the lady cutting his hair had photos on her wall of Shalamar he told her it was his and his wife's song, she told him she was one if their backup singers. He got her autograph and believes it was a sign from my sister. I do too.
Jay & Amber, For a great instrumental, Billy Preston’s “Outa Space”!!! Billy plays several different keyboards on this very funky song!!! You said you wanted to do some instrumentals, and this one will get you out of your chairs!!!!
That's Howard Hewett...I've requested him before for his solo stuff. His solo stuff is really good. I hope you guys do more Shalamar, Jodie Watley, and Howard Hewett!
Hi Jay and Amber!! So happy that you to finally got to this group! They were essential listening when I was growing up. The next songs by them that you absolutely have to react to are: "A Night To Remember" "Take That To The Bank" "This Is For The Lover In You" "Make That Move" "You've Got Me Running" "Sweeter As The Days Go By" "Somewhere There's A Love" "Somethings Never Change"
Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniels started out as Soul Train dancers. The lead singer, Howard Hewett, is an amazing singer with a great falsetto. Please check out This Is For The Lover In You! Fun fact: Jeffrey Daniels taught Michael Jackson how to do the backslide, which was renamed the moonwalk. He also was the co-choreographer for MJ’s Bad video.
Loved this era. It was my era. 3 or 4 nights of dancing and socializing. Meeting new people. I have one regret from "70's. I didn't live in the moment.
Thanks for reaching back to Shalamar! The great Howard Hewett on lead vocals, the fabulous Jody Whatley and Jeffrey Wright were Soul Train dancers before they started the group, They made great music back in the day
Jeffrey Daniel (who sings the high part in the video) was more known for his dancing. He performed what was to become known as the “Moonwalk” and then taught it to Michael Jackson who then went on to do it live when he performed Billy Jean on TV.
Oh, I wanted to share some music trivia with you guys relating to Shalamar. This groups was found and created by Soul Train creator and legend, Don Cornelius, and Dick Griffey (Soul Train's booking agent). It was initially supposed to be a disco-driven group, but then the direction of music changed and so the group became primarily an R&B and funk group. Band members Jody Watley, and Jeffrey Daniels were regular dancers on the Soul Train program before Cornelius chose and asked them to be a part of the group he was forming; for them to sing backup vocals to lead singer Gerald Brown, who left the group quickly and then was replaced by Howard Hewett (who sang the lead vocals in this song, "Second Time Around").
"The Second Time Around" was Shalamar's biggest hit peaking @ #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the R&B chart & #1 on the Disco/Dance chart. Released in the fall of 1979, it hit the R&B chart first (9/29/79), then the Disco chart (10/20/79), and finally, the Hot 100 on 12/8/79 charting for 23 weeks. Group was formed by Don Cornelius & Dick Griffey from Soul Train. 2 of the group members had solo hits after the group ended: especially Jody Watley (Pop, R&B & Dance charts) & Howard Hewitt (primarily on the R&B chart).
The great thing about music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s , specifically RnB music it just makes you wanna move something. Even if you think you can’t dance, the groove will lift you mind , body n soul. By the way the lead singer name is Howard Hewitt, Jody Watley , and Jeffrey Daniel completing the trio. Try “ Make That Move” and for a change of pace “ This Is For The Lover In You” …. Enjoy.
Wow RIP Robbie Robertson co founder and guitarist for The Band. Classic rockers are going away fast. Thanks to Jay and Amber their music and memories will be around a long time more. Maybe a tribute with The Band’s The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.
Please do Jody Watley's 'Still A Thrill' video! Also anything from Howard Hewett like 'Stay'. 'Take that to the Bank' and 'Make That Move' from Shalamar. Saw Shalamar in concert with The Whispers, Lakeside and Carrie Lucas as a teen!
If you like that sound, you'll love a song called "Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward. That came out around the same time as this did. Next from Shalamar should be either "Dead Give Away" or "Dancing In The Sheets", which you might recognize it from a movie you watched...
Yes. Dancing in the sheets was from the "Footloose" soundtrack. However both Jody and Jeffrey were not on it. They had left the group the year before it was released.
Listen to the band HEARTSFIELD from the 1970's. The songs Another Man Down, Magic Mood, Racin' The Sun, Honest Junkie. One of the best bands of their genre.
FINALLLLLYYYYY! 🙌💃🏻 This was such a great song to dance to. I can still do the moves🤣💃🏻💃🏻 Howard Herwitt is the singer, Jodie Watlee is the young lady…and sorry I can’t remember the Second Gentleman. It’s hard for me to watch this video when I heard that Howard was very cruel to Jodie. But, she went out on her own and did ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!
Glad you guys decided to get back to this style of music, been missing it for the past few weeks...Have even been experiencing withdrawal symptoms...lol...be blessed!
This 1979 song fit right in with the disco of the period, and Shalamar had a lot of additional hits through the early eighties in both the US and the UK. Their first hit, "Uptown Festival" from 1977, was a medley of sixties R&B hits set to a disco beat. "Take That to the Bank" (1978) and "Make That Move" (1980) are a couple of my favorites of theirs. That "pew! pew!" sound y'all have noted in a few late seventies disco songs started to be common after the first "Star Wars" movie debuted in 1977. I think it was supposed to sound like some space gun or something. Y'all should listen to Meco's hit 1977 disco version of the "Star Wars" theme. It may have been the first song to feature those "pew! pew!" sounds.
Check out Dead Giveaway, Dancin' in the Sheets (from the Footloose soundtrack), Make that Move and This is for the Lover in You. From lead singer Howard Hewett (no he wasn't with another group) - Say Amen, Show Me, If I Could Only Have That Day Back(not the official video because they cut the ending) You didn't notice Jody Watley in this video but you already reacted to her solo hit - Looking for a New Love. Her others -Real Love, Don't You Want Me, and Everything.
Shalamar, alright!!! Right in the Socket is their best, you've got to hit it! Everyone was mentioning their hits below, but they first hit the discos with a Motown medley, Uptown Festival. You'll love that too, make sure you get the extended version with all the songs!
Wow! These songs of My Generation certainly bring back a lot of memories. This song is awesome! Thank you Rob Squad for airing these wonderful time classics and is fun to watch your generation seeing and hearing these songs for the first time. 👍🙂
I think I had it turned up way too loud it must have been? I don't know but the feeling I've had it before but don't work. I was getting a hand job with that baseball
"A night to remember" is a must listen to, with Jody Watley on lead vocal.

"For The Lover In You"
HH is a BANGING vocalist.
Howie still performs.
Those were the crossover hits. Talk to black folks and they will tell you Take That to The Bank is the Shalimar jam.😂
"For the lover in you" is a must listen. The lead singer on this one is Howard Hewitt, and the female singer is the great Jody Watley.
Their all time wedding ballad!
And for those few millennials that pulled up, Ella Mai’s newish song “This Is” samples Shalamar’s “This Is For The Lover In You”. ✌🏽

Shalamar rocked the New Wave style also with my favorite song Dead Giveaway!!!
Yes....the great group with Jody Watley and Howard Hewett, who then each went solo. Jody had a huge string of hits.
This song brings back fond memories of my disco days!

Next you must do A Night To Remember its another big hit for Shalamar.
The next songs by them that you absolutely have to react to are:
"A Night To Remember"
"Take That To The Bank"
"This Is For The Lover In You"
"Make That Move"
"You've Got Me Running"
"Sweeter As The Days Go By"
"Somewhere There's A Love"
"Somethings Never Change"
Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniels started out as Soul Train dancers. The lead singer, Howard Hewett, is an amazing singer with a great falsetto. Please check out This Is For The Lover In You! Fun fact: Jeffrey Daniels taught Michael Jackson how to do the backslide, which was renamed the moonwalk. He also was the co-choreographer for MJ’s Bad video.
Loved this era. It was my era. 3 or 4 nights of dancing and socializing. Meeting new people. I have one regret from "70's. I didn't live in the moment.
The female singer: Jodi Watley you've already reacted to her song "Looking for a New Love".
Yay! You did Shalamar with Jody Watley still in the group!!!!!
A night to remember, great song
You guys heard Jody Whatley in “I’m looking for a new love, baby”; she is highlighted in their song “Night to Remember “
A Night To Remember, Top of the Pops....Jefferey Daniel does Robot, Moonwalk it's incredible .!!
Howard Hewett's solo work is worth a listen
His cover of AWB’s “A Love Of Your Own”. 🔥🔥🔥
Yaaaaaaay!!! Shalamar!!! ❤❤❤😃
Shalamar is huge in the UK!
Classic soul at its finest ✌🏾
Thanks for reaching back to Shalamar! The great Howard Hewett on lead vocals, the fabulous Jody Whatley and Jeffrey Wright were Soul Train dancers before they started the group, They made great music back in the day
Have this on my workout playlist because it's so upbeat and always makes me smile. Good memories😊
Jeffrey Daniel (who sings the high part in the video) was more known for his dancing. He performed what was to become known as the “Moonwalk” and then taught it to Michael Jackson who then went on to do it live when he performed Billy Jean on TV.
One of my favorites during my "club'n" days.....mostly at the NCO Club.
Great group great music thank you!
Yes!!! Lots of great songs. and their Masterpiece is: "This Is For The Lover In You"
YES! Reminds of me of Junior High School. LOVE that you’re reviewing late 70s/early 80s R&B. Keep it up!
If you like that sound, you'll love a song called
"Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward. That came out around the same time as this did.
Next from Shalamar should be either "Dead Give Away" or "Dancing In The Sheets", which you might recognize it from a movie you watched...
Great suggestions 💕💕💕
@@juliewhite7469 ~ 🙂👍🎶
Yes. Dancing in the sheets was from the "Footloose" soundtrack. However both Jody and Jeffrey were not on it. They had left the group the year before it was released.
@@raymondwoodard6779 ~ I still like the song though...
@@Deborahtunes I do too, even though Howard is doing all the vocals.
But I missed Jody and Jeffery after they left.
Listen to the band HEARTSFIELD from the 1970's. The songs Another Man Down, Magic Mood, Racin' The Sun, Honest Junkie. One of the best bands of their genre.
One of my skating rink songs. ❤ 😀
🥰🥰🥰
FINALLLLLYYYYY! 🙌💃🏻
This was such a great song to dance to. I can still do the moves🤣💃🏻💃🏻
Howard Herwitt is the singer, Jodie Watlee is the young lady…and sorry I can’t remember the Second Gentleman.
Oh yeah, a CLASSIC! The extended album version is even Better!
Ok, everybody skate to your left.
Their album Friends was a hit from start to finish, every track a smash
Huge hit here in Brazil.
Hugs 🎉
Check out Dead Giveaway, Dancin' in the Sheets (from the Footloose soundtrack), Make that Move and This is for the Lover in You.
From lead singer Howard Hewett (no he wasn't with another group) - Say Amen, Show Me, If I Could Only Have That Day Back(not the official video because they cut the ending)
You didn't notice Jody Watley in this video but you already reacted to her solo hit - Looking for a New Love. Her others -Real Love, Don't You Want Me, and Everything.
Love this group. Jeffrey Daniel was once married to singer Stephanie Mills.
And Howard was married to Nia Peeples and Jody was in a relationship with Andre Cymone. ✌🏽
Jody Watley & Jeffrey Daniel were a couple who were regular dancers on Soul Train.
Next you guys have to react to their song called For the Lover in You. Classic R&B Hit!
night to remember is an absolute must
I think I had it turned up way too loud it must have been? I don't know but the feeling I've had it before but don't work. I was getting a hand job with that baseball
😅😅😅😅
Hi, I'm gonna play it again, I'm gonna play this one again. Hey I'll play it again😅😅😅
