If you ever wonder why people who grew up in the 70s always seem to be in a good mood just listen to the music we had to listen to. Here's another good one: Ray, Goodman, and Brown "Special Lady"
So much great music was our soundtrack in the 70’s , it made anyone have a better day and get through life! So much good music you almost didn’t have to buy the record, 8_track or cassette , just listen to the radio ! But the main thing I loved about 70’s soul music was that everyone young and old listened and enjoyed it all together!
Classic song, GQ’s version was actually a cover from a Billy Stewart song of the same name in 1965 which reached #5 on the R&B charts, GQ covered the song (this one) and released it on their album in 1979 which ALSO reached #5 on the R&B charts. GQ’s version is the one most people know but credit should also be given to the artist Billy Stewart who released it 14 years earlier.
This was back in the 70s when groups had to sing and play their own instruments. Another 💎!! I was so fortunate to grow up in this era(older siblings 9 & 7 years older than me). Men weren't afraid to express their feelings and not just want to "hit."
It’s rare that I like covers as much as the original but this song & their cover of another Billy Stewart song “sitting in the park” I like as much as the originals.
Parents having a house party, having fun while the kids played. Adults and kids dancing and singing to this song, smoke filling the air from the adults smoking, forming a Soul Train line and Uncle so and so drunk as a skunk, but we didn't care because those were the good old days. I have to say growing up in the 70's and 80's was THE best!
Omgosh.. There is so many songs out there that you would really enjoy.. so far the songs you've picked are on my playlist.. one song you should consider is Suavecito from the group Malo.. coincidentally one member is the brother to Carlos Santana...
Just so smooth!! Always loved this song! New music requests: 1. "The Blues" by Tony!Toni!Tone'! (said as Tony-Tony-Tony)/1990 2. "Two Occasions" by The Deele (pronounced Deal)/1987 3. "Close To You" by Maxi Priest/1990 (Look at official video HD extended mix with pictures of kids) 4. "Nite and Day" by Al B. Sure!/1988 (Jay will love the falsetto on this artist!)
Much respect Mr. Lane, you and your group made timeless music, only a small number of people on the planet can say that, thank you for your everything you gave us. ❤
Props to you (the whole group) for your contribution to great music and appreciation of those who came before you. I don't think the great R & B/Soul Music artists of that time period (50's -80's) get enough credit. Many left out of the "Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. We need our own Soul Music Hall of Fame!
GQ were a great band, other tracks I recommend that you react to: "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)", "Make My Dreams a Reality", "Standing Ovation", "Sitting in The Park", "It's Your Love". There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.
"I Do Love You" was originally released in 1965 by singer, Billy Stewart. However, the 1979 remake by GQ is more uptempo...and it's my favorite! I'm glad you enjoyed this song like those of us that grew too in the 70s. ❤
The original was recorded by Billy Stewart, one of my favorite 60's soul artists. Sadly he lost his life in a car accident in the early 70's. The GQ cover is great nonetheless. They also covered another Billy Stewart song Sitting in the Park and that charted too. Look em all up.
Back in the 70s, there was a men’s magazine named “Gentlemen’s Quarterly” filled with the mens fashions of the day. I always thought that was where the name GQ came from, especially considering the way the band dressed. Please comment if any one knows for sure.
This was a great remake that we enjoyed very much but family, the original was by Billy Stewart in the 50s or early 60s. It was pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Please check it out !!❤❤❤ Love and Peace🙏🏽
In the past, paying homage to the originators was automatic, not so much today. So, let's shout out to the late Billy Stewart out of DC. He used to call himself the "Fat Boy." Word on the street was that his version of "Danny Boy" was the best, but friends of Jackie Wilson would argue that. I loved them both.
Amber & Jay, I Do Luv U by GQ I used this song on my Aunt N Uncle's 50th Wedding Anniversary, this is just a perfect Wedding slow jam for the bride & groom to be on the dance floor breaking it down to GQ's I Do Luv U Song. U guys also have to checkout GQ's Sitting In The Park Song. U guys will enjoy!!!
Some more 70s (and a few 60s) soul suggestions, Smokey Robinson - quiet storm; The spinners - it’s a shame (Jay would like the falsetto); The o’jays - for the love of money, I love music, stairway to heaven, emotionally yours (Bob Dylan cover; the live version from the Dylan anniversary concert is nice); Stylistics - people make the world go round, break up to make up, you are everything, i’m stone in love with you; Chi-lites - oh girl, (for god’s sake) give more power to the people; The undisputed truth - smiling faces sometimes; Friends of distinction - going in circles; Major Harris - Love won’t let me wait; William bell - tryin’ to love two; Tyrone davis - turning point; Joe simon - drowning in the sea of love; Lou rawls - natural man; Timmy Thomas - why can’t we live together (the organ is prominent in this); Isley brothers - it’s your thing, harvest for the world (power station did a cover), (from the 60s) - shout, this old heart of mine (you've reacted to the cover with Ronald Isley and Rod Stewart); The four tops - keeper of the castle, catfish, when she was my girl; George McCrae - rock your baby (his wife, Gwen McCrae had a callback song called, Rockin' Chair).
☀️Classic Sunday low riding music 🎶 You can even hear how the guitar influenced reggae music. This song was played at the end of “Baby Boy” movie. GQ funked us up with “Disco Nights” and slowed it down with their remake of “Sitting in the Park.”
One of my absolute favorite 80s ballads. GQ covered two ballads from 60s legend Billy Stewart, this and Sitting In The Park, which I also love. I love and respect the original versions and Stewart's unique voice, but I personally prefer these remakes, which is extremely rare for me. Their huge hit is the anthem Disco Nights. This song was the follow-up.
WHY DOES THE RACE to you make the music, Most Races believe music is color blind ,I have tons of white people that make just as good music but i do not brag on them BEING WHITE,
They're best known for their biggest hit " Disco Nights ( Rock Freak )" which dropped in 1979. "I Do Love You" is the 2nd single from the album. One of the members in GQ happens to be related to Keith Sweat!
Is it possible to remake a soul classic? It is if your band’s name is GQ! Wow! So soulful and beautiful. They manage to capture all of the familiarities from the original and really expand on it. A classic slow jam!
This song, and the harmony from all singers, took pure and real talent! This is why music was so good back then 🥰 Thank you Jay and Amber for taking the time to listen and appreciate the music that we grew up with, and for understanding why we think of music in our set ways. You are music icons now 😊 🎶 🎵
GQ was also a men's fashion magazine in the 70's-80's which was popular with black & Latino men similar to the Lowrider\Chicano styles magazine Q-VO. The older Billy Stewart version is just as good & is one of those Lowrider oldies we like to hear while cruising down the boulevard.
This is a R&B classic remake! GQ adds that 1960s Do-Wop vibe to this song! It's their most identifiable song, along with "DIsco Nights!" It's also the closing song to John Singleton's great 2001 movie, "Baby Boy" featuring Tyrese Gibson (A great singer in his own right), Taraji B. Henson, Omar Gooding, A.J. Johnson, Ving Rhames and Snoop Dogg.
A beautiful song I enjoyed in my mid 20's. Full of memories of love and needing to move on to the otherside of my life. It was full of fear excitement, and so many feeling of the heart. On this side of the mountain at 71. I say Praise God I'm still here .
Hats off to GQ for covering a high-quality classic from Billy Stewart, and doing it justice. I hope they get to the Billy Stewart version someday, along with "Cross My Heart," and of course his big one, "Summertime." (They reacted to Billy's "Sitting in the Park" last year.)
GQ has a great catalog. They do not get the recognition they deserve, I hope you explore some more of their hits such as "standing, ovation" and others ❗❗❕❕❕
This song brought so many memories back. Started High School when this song came out. School dances weren’t dances until this record hit the player. Thank you for taking me down the lane. Blessings to you and yours
Yes I'm So Glad To Finally See Your Reaction To "GQ, I Do Love You" I've Requested This So Many Times & So Many Months Ago, So Thank You So Much, I Hope To See Your Reaction To So Many Other Old School R&B From My Days Ok
now this what i grew up on listen GQ was one great group there not mention much but there best from 70's and 80's like this one here takes you back to wonderful time.
Y’all simply MUST react to 70s soul band Switch., “I Call Your Name”. The lead singer was the late great Bobby DeBarge, older brother of all those other Debarges. Bobby was El before there was El.
The other day you reacted to Bocelli & Dion. Happy that you explore many genres of music. Well... I came a across a live performance of the greatest female jazz/scat singer to ever live. Ms Ella Fitzgerald. It was titled "Mr Paganini" (You Just Have To Swing). Performed on the Ed Sullivan Show. Sound was killer. Just sit back, relax, close your eyes and enjoy the ride! She killed it !
If you ever wonder why people who grew up in the 70s always seem to be in a good mood just listen to the music we had to listen to. Here's another good one: Ray, Goodman, and Brown "Special Lady"

Exactly if you're having a bad day 70's and 80's music will make you feel better. Growing up in the 70's was the best. So many good memories.

Amen
The lead singer states in the ad libs it's just an oldie but goodie. They also covered Sitting In The Park.
You’re so right!👍💜
Bring on some Billy Stewart!!! They should check his story out as well.
It wasn't until UA-cam that i learned about Billy Stewart. And that's a sad thing because I was born in 71
The Stylistics - "You Make Me Feel Brand New" - Give the people what they want.
Yes, I love you make me feel brand new. I sing that song all the time when it came out when I was in fifth grade.
Ditto - The Stylistics - "You Make Me Feel Brand New" !!!
Check out Simply Reds cover of ''you make me feel brand new''
EVERYTHING by The Stylistics is fantastic!!❤
@@NeptuneLady1957 - They've only done one Stylistics reaction, and that was a year ago.
I'm a 60 and over old school. Most young people don't know what they missed
And some over 60 don't remember that BIlly Stewart wrote this song and had a hit with it in 1965.
They sure don't.
Im 67 and love, love, love old school. The music is timeless.

Try GQ's other classic tracks: 'Disco Nights' and 'Don't Stop This Feeling'. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
You are seriously correct right now.
J/A, "Disco Nights (Rock-Freak)" was their other hit!
yep that is my favorite. I know Jay will like that one better too.
"Sitting in the Park" also.
It’s rare that I like covers as much as the original but this song & their cover of another Billy Stewart song “sitting in the park” I like as much as the originals.
GQ covered this song and Sitting in the Park, both originally by Billy Stewart from the 60s. You reacted to Stewart's Sitting in the Park.
Sitting in the Park is my jam 😎
GQ’s Standing Ovation! Great upbeat song!
Another band, "Raydio" had some good RnB hits in the 70s, "Jack n Jill" comes to mind.
Worth a listen.
I was just listening to Ray Parker and Raydio last night.

This is a remake from Billy Stewart who sang it back in the 60s. I remember my sister and I playing the 45. Loved those days .
Awww man! A hit back in the day!
