Gorgoeus makes , I love a boat neck! But I was so interested to see your little bookcase, it looks so cool!!!! and books. The upside down book is like nothing I’ve seen before!! Happy February sewing!
Catherine Sews has the absolutely best method for attaching a collarband/collar without using the typical (awful) sewing instructions. Look for her tutorial for constructing a men's shirt. The collar instruction is part 2, but the entire tutorial is excellent.
Beautiful makes! I love the florals and what a wonderful staple. I’m glad you made it work with what you have. Enjoy your hat knitting! Enjoy the stitch festival! The guitar is beautiful! Hope you get to spend more time exploring York at some point!
A couple of ideas for your collar stand. I starch the. stand before I start - keeps it a bit more stable. Then I attach it to the shirt back to front so the top stitching is under the collar. Then I do the stitching from the front to the centr back on one side then flip it over and stitch from front to centre on the other side. That way if there’s any tiny tuck it’s hidden by the collar on the back. And yes, I would size down on the Cameron - first thing I noticed was the shoulders. But isn’t it a satisfying sew? Your fabric choice is lovely. 💕🇨🇦
You’re always so incredibly thoughtful about your makes. You think about things in a much different way than I do and I appreciate that. I hem my aunt lived in Preston, we went and visited York and it was an amazing experience. The castle and a Viking tour stick out in my head as highlights.
Thank you for a lovely video, you are so calming to watch. Your Cameron shirt is beautiful and those sleeve plackets are awesome 🎉. Have fun at the stitch festival ❤
HI, Theresa! The fabric you used for your Cameron shirt is lovely! I've made the Cameron by Helen's Closet. If I remember correctly, it was designed as a unisex shirt. I found the shirt to be a bit "manly" in its style. It's slightly off the shoulder and very full in the body. It's very comfortable. I made the short sleeve version and the sleeves were much wider and appear more "manly" as well. I used a ditsy floral quilting cotton so I feel like the fabric balances out the "manliness" of the design.
Your Cameron button-up fits so perfectly into your wardrobe plan. It looks great, such a lovely fabric. The Freya tops are cute and seem as though they'll be really useful. I loved the Dirk Gently books when I read them as a teenager. I believe there's an older BBC series and a newer American one, but I haven't seen either. Your Burton Bingo is such a fun idea!
Love the shirt! Such a lovely fabric. The Tim Burton bingo card was such a good idea! I have only read one Banana Yoshimoto book, but I have been thinking about reading more of her novels. I really like her style, too. I am going to the Stitch Festival for the first time this year. Really excited! Thanks for sharing your makes and book tips :)
Yes to the simple black tee shirt! 😉 I've got a black jersey to cut out a tee in the near future myself! Infinitely useful 😁 I especially enjoyed your Tim Burton discussion. I've checked out a knitting book - twice - that's filled with "Nightmare...." patterns. By Tanis Gray, and I so want to make the Sally armwarmers. (Check her other themed books, too) I was gifted a 100 movies scratch-off bucket list by someone who knows me well, and I was looking at it like bingo.... except each row/line has ten. I'm finally to where I'm one away from two bingos. I'm worried that I'm avoiding all the scary ones and will have to do them all at once. 😬 Thanks for sharing, have a great week!
Thank you for the video, great to see your latest makes. I think you’re definitely making things that fit the style you have described. I really need to try that but find it a bit elusive! I have also changed the Freya to fit me (busty), why didn’t I think about just changing the neckline for different styles 😂😂
Love your makes! I was sick for half of January and the last two weeks I focused on making my husband a couple pairs of sweats and that took up a lot of time for getting the right fit. I only managed to make one pair of jersey pj pants. I have lots of plans for February though.
Your tops are all pretty. Each one is different and serves a different purpose in your closet. I really love the floral print on your T-shirt. It's going to go with so many of your bottoms. I love a good puzzle and received a couple for Christmas, one which I have completed so far. Your 25 for 25 is off to a great start. I am working out a list of things I want to sew in the coming weeks. I just finished a kaftan style beach cover up I cut out about 10 years ago and never put together 😮. Nice to get it out of the sewing room. I had ordered some technical fabrics in November that arrived in January thanks to a mail strike. I am enjoying the process of matching fabrics to patterns.
That fabric is lovely. I also struggle with the shaping of my collar stands. It is just a lot going on in a very small space. I have wanted to try one of those miniatures. I have reached an age where very small things have become impossible. I tried sewing some doll clothes for a friend's daughter. I managed only 2 outfits and swore off making more. So, I haven't tried a miniature yet. I made my husband a flannel shirt and had to redo the plackets. Somehow, I got the overlap on the wrong side. Which was weird as I traced the layout from the pattern while cutting the sleeves out. I can only assume I should have traced on the opposite side of the fabric. I have made at least 50 men's shirts and I still find new ways to make mistakes. We are getting our first snow of the year here in Washington. I am currently sewing a cowl neck sweater out of a lovely pale purple sweater knit.
Love the tops. That Cameron fabric is gorgeous. I went to York twice last year. First time I ended up in York hospital for 4 days while my family did the sights. I was better the next time when I went for the day while they looked at the uni. The wooden kits are great. I did the sewing room and train book nook last year and I’ve got another one for Christmas.
I have the Cameron pattern and want to make it up in a flannel. I'd been looking for a shirt pattern without a bust dart and I'm curious whether I'll have the same shoulder seam issue. I do like my shoulder seam right at my shoulder point.

Loved this Theresa, from your discussion of pattern elements to book precis, fabulous. Thank you 😍

I love York. So much history and architecture with a bit of a Disneyland feel - well in August when it’s full of tourists.
As usual, nice makes.
I keep trying to get into reading my books I just cannot get into it. I'm going back to my audiobooks. At least I will be hearing a book.😊
Great to see you! Your blouse and tops turned out very pretty! Love the viscose fabrics! I’m totally fascinated with your book shop!

Check out the Classic Shirt pattern from Liesl & Co for a great sewing process when tackling collar stands and cuffs.

hi, would you mind sharing in what size you made the Cameron, I am about to sew mine and am a bit undecided :) Thank you
