I'm pretty sure that he's really just invested in the music. I've seen lots of musicians, from classical guitarists to violinists, cellists, flutists, saxophonists, and pianists (And conductors - let us not forget them!) become very emotive when playing. That doesn't make it a "fake misunderstood "superartist' face" - it just means that he is involved with the music and the instrument.
