We're using the O Antiphons in a class on the Psalter here in CA in our assisted living facility. The beauty of Caroline's voice and the accompaniment is a reminder that we're all in assisted living, one way or another. Deo Gratias.
Exquisite, I listen to one a day plus the previous days so as to build up to Christmas Eve. A real meditation for Advent.
Fabulous. Plainsong is a tonic for the soul, especially when sung so beautifully.
WOW!!! Sung by the voice of an angel. So enjoyed listening to it. So beautiful.
Am a newcomer to this genre of music thank you for making it accessible with original Latin titles and English words. Beautiful
I am beyond words for this as far as the beauty of it is concerned,
Very successful translation if the Latin Texts and miracolous performing!
What a beautiful voice! Thank you so much.
This Wonderful Work was performed by an Angel. Marvelous.
Praise be to The Lord Almighty and may He Bless your voice so we, as Catholic brother and sister, can continue to proclaim the Glory of God. I will end my comment as your talent is beyond words.
8:15am USA West Coast: Brothers and Sisters, I'm totally speechless. Beautiful. Thank you Caroline, SW1 and, of course, Richard. The Stars of Bethlehem. xxx
Marvelous, especially on the eve of the last Sunday of Advent. Well sung Caroline.
What a great rendition! So sad I’m only discovering this now.
Your videos and live chats are making this the best Christmas Season Ever for me and our little church. I email them out to our choir who are all stuck at home. Thank you Richard and Caroline. We are one big family. With organs!
Matt, organist-choir, Mendocino Presbyterian Church, Northern California Coast.
Thank you for these moments of introspection, beauty, and peace. 🎄⭐️
This is absolutely stunning.
BEAUTIFUL VOICE! THANK SO MUCH FOR THIS RECORDING AND FOR ALLOWING US TO DOWNLOADING IT. YOU ARE SIMPLY THE BEST❣️👍👌🤗🤗🤗
Beautiful. Can’t say anything else.
Thank you so much, what a wonderfully meaningful way to begin a new day.
Beautiful Carol , thank you!
Certainly enjoyed this. Thank you to a good start in the morning.
Wonderful music, sung so beautifully. Thank you so very much.
Thank you Caroline. So beautiful.
This is so beautiful I began to tear up
I’m so glad you liked it!
Caroline's singing is just exquisite: she has such a beautiful voice! And she is very sensitively accompanied.
It is wonderful to think how the "O Antiphons of Advent" link present-day worship with that of at least 1300 years ago. These antiphons consist of lapidary Latin prayers, invoking Christ, and calling on Him to come as each one is not only a title for the Messiah but also references the prophecy in Isaiah of the coming of the Messiah.
Although seven antiphons have been fairly universally recognised throughout western Christendom, an alternative English medieval practice arose of moving all of the antiphons forwards by one day (commencing therefore on 16 December) and adding another (eighth) antiphon on 23 December: O Virgo virginum, addressed to the Virgin Mary. This has been the tradition in the Church of England until recent times, and is the version printed in traditional Church of England liturgical sources including the English Hymnal and New English Hymnal. (From 2000, however, the Church of England appears to have taken an official step away from English medieval practice towards the more widely spread custom, as Common Worship makes provision for the sevenfold version of the antiphons, and not the eightfold version performed here!)
The sevenfold version produces the reverse acrostic: 'ero cras' (tomorrow, I will be there).
The eightfold version produces the reverse acrostic: 'vero cras' (truly, tomorrow).
Thank you very much for this insight Graham. Indeed, we didn’t record the eighth antiphon for our Virtual Church on Advent Sunday, but added it to this video to complete the set.
@@caroline.balfour And very lovely to have the full English set it is!
This is trulu a thing of such loveliness.
That modern music in comparison is just noise and chaos.
This makes me think of angels in harmonious praise of the Trinity saying "Holy, Holy, Holy......."
I'm waiting. LOVE plainsong.
Amen! Deo Gratias!
Beautiful!!! Thank you... :)
Beautiful!
Beautiful
I am missing hearing the O Antiphons this year, our church's choir would use them as an introit each Sunday during Advent. Not this year, of course.
Oh THANK YOU!! This is amazing!!!!!
Thank you! It is amazing!
Fantastic 👏🏻 2023 Christmas music which is a delight to hear- where can one get the music arrangement for this? Merry Christmas and have a happy new year 🍻🥃
Wonderful. Thank you.
OMG angel voice...
Just wonderful.
Brilliant!!!
Incredible!
Looking forward to it. Of course it's rather up our tree here in Nepal as the Tibetan monks recite their scriptures in kind-of plainsong style ... although about 5 octaves lower.
Lovely
Please, tell me this beautiful setting is available in score form! How can I get it?
This is an incredible recording. Thank you. Did you do the translation of the Gregorian into English? Normally I'm not a big fan of those but you nailed it
To be honest I can’t remember where I got the text from, but I’m glad you approve!
Please please do it in Latin please, Caroline's voice is lovely
Where can I buy the sheet music?
Where is the music to this?
I'm Indonesian .. Javanese .. 🤍🤍🤍
Ooo - a bit of moany music! (In my youth I though plainsong was a bit naff and only for folks holding one hand to an ear - now I know better and try to sing along in private. Try it - very calming and etherial....
Holy sh*t
Love Caroline's boy soprano quality of voice! But maybe cut back a little on the vocal reverb.
