And of course, one of the things that we prep for is inflation. I am currently eating, for example, cans of chick peas that cost me 30p a tin, they’re over 50p a tin now I think. What we have learned over the last ten years on a drip drip basis, is that everything the MSM report is either an outright lie or at best, a heavily spun half truth. I guess we always knew this but now with citizen journalism we are seeing the details and the huge extent of the deception. I also think that over the decades as ownership of everything is concentrated into fewer and fewer hands we are now living virtually under Monopoly Capitalism and so the media simply act as the PR department of big business.
Food inflation is just ridiculous I stocked up on tin veg even though I prefer fresh I like to have tin veg in case I can’t go shopping. I was shocked when I saw how much just one item in my pantry had go up by a tin of carrots that cost 25p a couple of years back is now 49p that’s almost a 100% increase and other items have gone up by similar amounts.
Ukraines produce mostly goes to Africa so unlikely to produce shortages in countires that buy their grain from elsewhere. I.e Europe and Canada. Some prepper channels really jumped on the farmer blockades but they had no proof of that happening that was just sheer fear mongering for the sake of views.
I do think the food shortage/supply chain pressure over the past 4 or 5 years likely had a few motives. I disagree regarding prices not going up very much in that time period especially if you're on a budget buying smaller quantities. A small portion of cheese I could buy for £1 in 2019, same item, same shop FW/IL now £2, small butter a fiver. I believe the supply chain fear factor helped those prices rise with little complaint because people will pay anything in a perceived shortage or threat of conflict. As for grain from the place you mentioned it's poor quality and to this day has traces of 1986. One thing is for sure in times like these the money moves from the bottom to the top be it via food, commodities, energy, private mortgage prices or even deaths.
Great vid EP. Im sure you know, but make sure to use the right fuel for rhe alchohol burner. I once went to a friends fondue, and after 5 mins we were almost passing out as it was the wrong alcohol. And your right about the supply chain, there really has been no difference. Admittedly i did buy a square metre of pasta and 10 litres of olive oil during the hype, which i dont regret. Cheers 👍🙂
Greetings from "The Lincolnshire Poacher" a Norman 22 project boat on the river Ancholme, gotta love the way governments and the media overhype everything 🤔 remember the fuel shortages and gouging by garages caused by an irresponsible article in a tabloid. Got to admit a floating BOL is ingenious, my boat is going to be my sanctuary outside of my hometown of about 300,000 people.
@@everydayprepper I can't do much with my boat until March when I hopefully get her moored in Brigg, and then I'll probably post videos of her and the modifications to improve functionality. Me being 6'4" in my boots and the original cabin headroom being 5'10" is awkward. Similar thing with the tatty pram-frame cockpit cover being a bit short, I'm planning on changing the screen and adding a fibreglass cockpit roof with zip and snap-dot fit in fabric sides for weather proofing and privacy (might use cockpit as shower area by utilising a dog paddling pool and portable shower unit)
@@everydayprepper yeah I almost bought a livable 1984 fairline fury but the sale fell through at their end, but work doesn't bother me as much as not being able to legally drive or ride on the roads anymore, the hardest part of the project is organising it with long-term effects of multiple TBI's but I'll muddle through and get a nice boat for less than 7.5k I would have paid for the fury lmao and I'll learn more about my boat.
Yet another fantastic video Steve . Really enjoying your content . I think frying eggs is the Bain of your life 😂 There’s not the stock on the shelves like there used to be , in particular vegetables, plenty of canned foods. Just out of curiosity Steve what make is the alcohol burner / stove in the boat .
Defo the USA cut the pipeline. We had prices of things rocket soon after. But that aside, your mike is FANTASTIC in picking up your chomping 😂. One day you might learn to BOIL that egg 😊
Yeah, funny wasn’t it, we never knew that we got anything from Ukraine until the CIA finally managed to goad Russia into rescuing the besieged Russians in Eastern Ukraine. Then suddenly, how can we survive without all the stuff from Ukraine. I have never once seen on any of my food labels “Product of Ukraine”, or anything else for that matter.
Clickbait indeed to a degree. I wonder if the increased migration in Europe is partly due to less food from Ukraine going to Africa? Maybe we don’t see the shortages as we pay the most for it so haven’t felt the squeeze so much. Over time if farmers are forced to sell land etc due to inheritance tax then food on shelves may become more imported and we have less resilience in the food supply chain. Worth buying your gardening books etc in to grow some of your own, fishing and foraging more over time to counter these trends or at least build skills in case needed. Global warming with random extreme weather events will also increasingly impact potentially. If there is a larger war then us as an island nation will be vulnerable food and goods wise. Good times. Hope you find some oil! Ta muchly.
Love your stuff, mate. Been watching you for a good while now. Love your style. Very grounded and pleasant to watch.
This is great mate fellow Brit here love the boat ! That’s a great prep to work with! I believe dry foods is a good way to go store well!

Really good point about citizen journalism.

Thank you, I'll have a look at the project

@davidgraemesmith1980 A lot of work by the sounds of it but worth it!
