  • This is a 15 mm representation of the Hittite empire and its army. It’s used for Wargaming and modeled to the best of my abilities based on the resources and figures available. I use various different rules to represent the battles, hail Caesar, impetus and others. The figures are from various manufacturing companies that have tried to the best of their ability to create 15 mm figures. This is the representation for the new kingdom Hittite that you would have found at the battle of Kadesh in 1200 BC

Well Phil I don’t know if you need to change yours, I just looked at a lot of stone and relieves and pictures of the time, and just kind of came up with my own ideas. But I wanted the Hittite army to be kind of multicultural, as they observed many different peoples and cultures that brought their own fighting style with them. So my Hittites are a little multi cult

Really enjoyed the presentation on this and the figures are just superb

Yeah this army is a little multi culty and has lots of different peoples in it to make up the vast majority of the Hittites. I’m finding it more and more difficult to not give a history lesson by just say a few words before showing off the army. I could probably talk for 20 or 30 minutes but then nobody will watch the video 😂

yknow since i just finally recieved my dba 3.0 I've always wondered do people even play the bronze age wars, or try to play out the wars in sicily - they are certainly cool topics but it was so long ago without a lot of details that it seems like it would be difficult to fully simulate. That and by sheer popularity I would think people would be more into the byzantines and roman times. Heck I was surprised people loved the Italian Wars so much. (I still find it funny that so many of these medieval battles were lost by dudes basically disobeying orders to go off and loot directly causing the battle to be lost OR alternatively the officer gets themselves killed on the frontline - or misreads and order - or attacks before they were supposed to.

You are right. Nobody does the chariot wars. But I didn’t build them for anybody else but me. My quest was to have every army in history. At least the significant ones. I’ve achieved that. It’s awe inspiring when people come over.
Nonetheless you play what excites you the most. What brings joy in building and painting.

Watching youtube channels like kings and generals is making me more interested in the less popular periods of history - heck DBA got me introduced to the incan and aztec wars when previously all i learned was the old guns germs and steel narrative. My Dad was always more of a Napoleonics and WW2 dude whereas I am starting to delve deeper into the ancients. Do you have any tips for painting figures - the only figures I've really painted are those 1/35 figures that come in like old tamiya kits (and lets just say they fall into that uncanny valley) especially in smaller scales - do you basecoat everything black then paint over? Do you bother with spray primer at small scale? Also with spears do you improvise spears or do you just purchase them.

@@gabrielnguyen5580 well there are a lot of painting tutorials on UA-cam for sure. It’s taken 35 years to develop mine. But yes and 15 mm I always create a basecoat primer. I think there are two styles, it is what you like most, either a black undercoat or a gray undercoat. I have been experimenting with contrast paints lately which are very nice but expensive. I think if you buy the right figures you don’t have to mess much with the spears. I am leaning more towards Forged in battle miniatures to be honest. Paint up well and they have molded spears. Depending on which army you decide to build will determine how are you going to paint. If your not a serious painter then go for armies that are simply done. Vikings and saxons for example or war of roses where most are in metal.

@@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 That very reason is one of my big reasons for looking to get into the age of chariots. I can't speak for everyone but I personally get bored seeing the same armies of history over and over again. I feel like as war gamers and hobbyists we see the same stuff over and over again. Id like to explore periods seldom visited.

Very nice. I have a Babylonian/Elamite army and Assyrian army about this size . Got to love chariots , i use Essex and Magistar Militum /chariot miniatures. Great for the Bibkical era.

I agree I still think Essex does a great job and I think gladiator or the old chariot are also not too bad. I also have a Babylonian army but not sure if it is as nice as yours. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Elamite army. That would be nice

Very nice looking troops. I have been getting more and more interested in this period lately. Id love to get some miniatures for it and start painting. The biggest issue I seem to have is basing. I am not a gamer anymore and really don't have any set of rules that I am enamored with. Do you have any suggestions for basing for someone who is probably more in the camp of collector and hobbyist than in the war gamer camp?

    • @thekrausecollection15mmmin53
      @thekrausecollection15mmmin53  2 роки тому

Well that’s probably more me. I am much more collector than I am a gamer. I wouldn’t mind gaming but it’s a pretty rare occasion. I did base my collection on the normal convention so that if I did want to sell them collection later it would be more palatable to those who are gamers. So I based everything on this 40 mm frontage or 80 mm frontage. The depth is irrelevant. But everybody bases it that way.
I have figured out a way to base things quickly and easily so it’s not a big pain. Thank you for your kind words. I loved the biblical and bronze age. Just because we all grew up with these stories and of course watching the 10 Commandments and seeing that massive Jeremy pouring out through the gate under Ramsay’s leader ship that’s really inspiring

Btw I bought the hail Caesar supplement age of bronze, fighting battles of the bronze age. This is a great supplement and really helped me to understand my armies and had bottles and things in it. Good imagery and pictures and might help you start to build something in the Bronze Age

@@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 I have thought about getting that as well. I think what I may do is look for larger scale figures of the Bronze Age and maybe do some vignettes if I feel collecting miniatures isn't what I want to do anymore. I am fighting a war with my self over miniatures, model building and hex and counter war games.

    • @thekrausecollection15mmmin53

@@nordicmaelstrom4714 Well hacks and counter games sure take up a lot less room, and a lot less work that’s for sure. I am really partial to the command and colors games. But I agree you know doing a couple of chariots and 25 mil just to have something to do and the cat is always very nice

@@thekrausecollection15mmmin53 I have seen the Command and colors games but I haven't seen any game play of them yet.
I think at this point in my life I am definitely transitioning into the art side of the hobby. I want to start painting large scale figures and busts and focus more time on scale model building.
I am sure I can find great Bronze Age era figures that I can go to town on painting them for display or even go with a few 28mm items for small vignettes.
