- Simpson Desert Episode 1 - Travelling from Toowoomba QLD to Quilpie only to be stopped in our tracks by a major flood event in the channel country, Blocking all access to Winton and Betoota like orignally planned, forcing on a 700km extra detour in a ditch effort to get around!
Will the Van handle its first taste of dirt?
Building an outback tourer? Or just keen to see what this weapon is about? Here is a run Through of the vehicle formally known as “Big D” “Big Delicious” or “The Missile”
Its a Jap Import 2009 Mitsubishi Delica D5
We have crossed the Simpson Desert with ease, its setup to explore, create adventure and to turn heads.
Hopefully this inspires more people to look out side the box of the big heavy rigs, do you really need a 3-4 Tonne Rig?
The Delica performed brilliantly across the whoops even while fully loaded.
Which the Heavy Prado and 79 couldnt maintain that same pace. We put this down to the Lightweight of the Delica D5

Epic trip that would have been, awesome stuff.
It was awesome to get back to the outback mate. Had a blast!
Great drone footage
Thanks mate, appreciate it.
great video guys! looking forward to seeing that Deli in the dunes! I bought a Spacegear L400 last year and love it :D
That's awesome man, yeah they're a good car. Keen to see how the Delica on some decent muddy tracks and also some soft beach work. It did really well in the desert.
@@raingersupplyco4922 I took mine on the Coorong which felt pretty treacherous in parts but I'm not used to a 4x4. I was more worried about it tipping over
Ma here because of delica d5,
Great show guys. Do you still have to make a donation to the RFDS for wearing a cap into the Birdsville Pub?
Cool vid, are these easy get parts for?
Hi do you have upgraded recovery points on the Delica and where did you get it
Hi we don't have any upgraded ones we just use an equaliser strap through the standard tow hooks for now.
tyre size on the D5 please? Standard rims? Suspension lift? Thanks.
All detailed here ---- ua-cam.com/video/NTWEwW5JaZI/v-deo.html
Hi is the van lifted or stock height?
3” spring lifted
I am thinking of buying one... how hard is to find parts?
not hard at all if you live in Australia Delica garage in Victoria or Qld will have parts or can get parts and they are a Delica specialist and know everything about them, we highly recommend. You can service them like any normal car just make sure you use the appropriate fluids for the vehicle.
Complaining about not having somewhere to camp? With those vehicles? I have a Mazda 2 I use for camping along dirt roads… 🤣
Me again. 😂 mate do you know what wading deapth is? Can you snorkel them? Thanks
