I actually have Professor Burp’s bubbleworks and vampire music on my phone! Great memories!
So do we!
I love the fact that the video isn't fast paced, as you can take in all the minor and big changes from the park year by year.
I hope you do more park history vids in the future!
Thank you I tried to get most of it in, do plan some more as well
I remember when I worked at Chessy we had a friendly rivalry with Thorpe Park. We had many socials together as well. Interestingly we were seen as the "teen" park and Thorpe the "family" one. It all changed when Tussauds purchased Thorpe and added it to its portfolio. Thorpe is not on green belt, so could have more scope to create higher rides on a larger park footprint rather then Chessington where we had to remain below tree level. The dynamic changed pretty much there and then. I will always be a Chessy rides team member and operator though, and loved my 4 seasons there through college and Uni!
Chessington have had to become more creative like Towers have, think its really starting to show now. thank you for sharing 😀
The park desperately need a new rollercoaster. I go for Vampire, Dragon's Fury and Rattlesnake. I love the attractions but they need something a bit more exciting to go alongside more thrilling rides like Vampire! They definately need a new rollercoaster. Although, I never want to see Vampire close! 🦇
Agreed 100%!
I have heard of a new coaster coming soon somewhere, just can’t remember where
Yep, as I said, new one is coming! Spring 2023 and 3 new rides: wing coaster, a bouncing flat ride line you would find at fun fairs and one that goes up and around. They are jumanji themed! The rollercoaster has a inversion btw!
Great video! I didnt know Colossus was originally meant to go to Chessington, do you know the reason as to why it went to Thorpe instead?
Down to the park restrictions it would seem and with the fire at Thorpe a change in direction for both parks
Ahh that makes sense, thank you!
@@UKThemeParks MONKS WALK PLEASE 2021!
@@Shanesgottobeknown soon as lockdown is lifted slightly, sadly I live no where near it
@@UKThemeParks (Adam) which part and land was Clossus proposed to be located in at Chessington World Of Adventures?
amazing video, i started crying when i watch this
Cant believe after so many years bubble works has gone.
Buy will be going back in 2021 just for the vampire
Messaged before but Love this video so much watched it so many times really hope you do another history video ❤
This is a great video of chessington history 👍👍👍
I would expect to see something major well before 2029 with the opening of rival theme park "Paramount London" in Kent. Best get those spades, hammers, poles and tracks at the ready Chessington and Thorpe Park. The clock is ticking!!
Went last year with my kids, was so bizarre going back after 30 years or so. Took a while to get my barrings. It's a shame so many good rides have gone and the Gallion has completely changed.
Really has lost some classics
Peeking Heights. The only ride that opened the year I was born. And now it’s not even there anymore.
I've Might Go To Chessington World Of Adventures One Day. Thanks Mate. X
i been there alot of times
i remember being at chessington for croc drop opening on day 1 of the ride but on the second operation the ride broke down but they got it running again it was due to snow
I’m going to Chessington this month
Great video Adam
I went there to day!😂😂😂 great place
The Magic Carpet was a brutal ride, always amazed me how much stuff fell out of people's pockets lol. The Galleon was also pretty good especially if you sat on the ends.
The Magic Carpet restraints were loose to say the least!
Great video u should do a history on Thorpe park and Alton towers
My Mum had her first Day out at Chessington Zoo when she was only 3 weeks old.
Nice history
Thank you!
I can’t believe how many rides have changed since i used to go there as a kid, it’s disappointing to see the awful renovations there today
i felt so sad when i was 1.4 i couldent go on ramases reveange i was so exited but i couldent go on it D:
@@bongo_cat12.35 it's cause u were to young I'm like 1.5
Hello There, Thank you very much for this decent insight and summary, I personally think that there should be a new Rollercoaster with Medium Intensity on the Lawn, as it would be a great use of the space. Cheers Peter
They are desperate for a new coaster, and not a Duplo Dino one...!
Hello There, I totally agree. Cheers Peter Mc :)
@@UKThemeParks chessington is getting a winged coaster
A fire broke out in the area of Chessington
I really think this park needs a new coaster to make it compete. A gerstlauer launched family coaster like FireChaser Express or Pegasé Express would be perfect in my opinion.
Agreed, hopefully something is planned
Maybe an Intamin Family Multi-launch coaster like Juvelen in Djurs Sommerland in Denmark and Yukon Quad in Le Pal in France
I remember at Chessington i remember the bubble works
Such a missed ride
Good video, But what would of made it very good as if you did the whole history of Chessington and when it became a Zoo, Which also had the Aquarium, Historical Mansion, Indoor Model Railway, + Amusement Rides, etc
Yes in some of the 70's + very early 80's wasn't that popular-But it was from 1983 onwards
Did you just say Chessingon World of Adventures was teh first UK Theme Park????
Ummmm Alton Towers( was not a amusement Park by the time:Chessington-World of Adventures opened, also Thorpe Park had themed rides and areas, Flamingo Land, Camelot Theme Park, Drayton Manor etc-Very confused lol
Thank you, we may well add another video about the zoo but does require a little more research! Chessington was the seen as the first park to have truly "themed" areas, Towers first real themed area came with Gloomy Wood and Kantaga Canyon, Merrie England etc was never seen as themed areas more than a couple of themed rides in a named area, with Drayton and others the same. |Its something John Wardley and many others have said but there is defiantly a fine line between amusement park and theme park and indeed the advertising of it for self purpose. We have a video coming out very shortly about Theme Parks and Amusement parks keep an eye out!
@@UKThemeParks Yea please do,
No Chessington was not seen as the first Themed Theme Park-I remember adverts on TV etc as a kid and would say Theme Park for Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, etc
Also Merrie England area did give vibe of being in medieval times!
Alton Towers real first themed areas were not: Gloomy Wood + Kantaga Canyon-they did have themed/very themed areas + high quality rides etc there in the 80's- I mean their themed/really themed areas Fantasy World(1980) , Aqua Land(1984), Kiddies Kingdom(1986),
Festival Park(1984),
Adventure Land(1986), Towers Street(1986), Talbot Street(1982), Britannia Farm(1989), + the natural gardens + Towers(100 years ago or more), were/are great + some of those are still there today-There a lot of things John Wardley has said which has baffled the UK public + other Theme Parks that is for sure!!!
Aqua Land in 1984 was just as just as themed as Gloomy Wood
@@mikekaraoke strange isnt it Wardley created both but Alton was also seen as Amusement park. Guess the only issue with older lands is somewhere in the middle of the park was a fair attraction. Such a grey area especially considering now Chessingtons dodgy themed areas!
@@UKThemeParks John Didn't create both with Theming, As John got to Alton Towers in the 90's!
Well yea with some older lands did yes but not all of them-like the 80's themed-area ‘European Square’ at Thorpe Park-Yea agree with you about chessington with not all but some of the dodgy themed areas + Towers Street at Alton Towers, etc
@@mikekaraoke always a grey area, least we have headed much better themes than back then, well generally anyway!
Where would Colossus have gone?
Believe mystic east area was the plan
2023 wing coaster
I’d love that
disney was the first theme park
Yes, but they aren't the first in the UK
@@UKThemeParksl thought blackpool was the first theme park in the UK
@@hettyoflynn5496 always classed as a amusement park, technically Black Gang Chine is, however not with rides
Swearing at Jane
Having visited the park this week for the first time in 20 years I can honestly say it was very dissapointing. No flow or structure, scruffy, tired paint work on lots of the rides and things like the kids truckers ride looking very tired. It just looks like people have panick bought stuff and tried to plonk it into the place . Shame really
Its certainly a work In progress after years of not a lot sadly
Hahaa the 5th dimension music!!
Chessington used to be great but they keep ruining it…
Tomb blaster and the gruffalo were bad ideas! :(
Its way too kiddy now prob the most kiddy park now so I don’t see any point in me going there now.
I would say they fit nicely in the middle of fun and mild thrills, we still have a great day. If you can go in like a late Septmeber mid week day, you won't be disappointed
