What I liked most about this movie was how good his friends were to Kirk. Women come and go, but good friends are the real foundation in your life.

Little bit late but I kind of disagree with this. I think it was his friends who actually ruined the relationship initially because they put the whole idea of the number system in his head which led to his self doubts and insecurities - two things you should never have when dating someone out of your league
Friends are good but find you a good woman and everything changes. It did for us and 43 years later and I would do it all over again.
Love this movie. So underrated. Wish they still made them like this. Hollywood would be saved!

Such an underrated movie. I fell in love w/ Alice Eve in this.
I wouldn't go that far but I had to re-watch that scene in the star trek movie where she gets changed in front of Kirk (for some reason I don't remember) a couple times because she looked so stupidly fuckin' good. IDK if it was camera angles or some shit but top 10 all-time body in the hot body federation rankings

I absolutely never realized Molly and Carol Marcus from Star Trek: Into Darkness were the same actress (Yes, the blonde in her underwear/borderline lingerie)
But to be fair I watched those movies about a decade apart.
I remember smiling and laughing throughout the whole movie.
2:41 Her hand on his knees to affirm her commitment to sticking with this (and him) no matter what. Nice touch right there.
It just clicked in my mind.
When the dude tried to hide the jizz in his pants thing from the parents, he came off as a jerk because he didn't greet them and didn't do all the introduction and being polite and stuff, which made *him* look bad.
The other option was to get up, the parents realize what was happening and *she* would have looked bad. Or well, both of them but more importantly her.
So, he got all the guilt and saved her some embarrassment. True gentleman

Don't need to say how unrealistic this movie is. However, it does get one thing perfectly: how people cannot accept you moving up in hierarchy (i.e. an average-looking man dating a super hot girl).
I was married to a very average woman and got dumped by her. We divorced, and two years later I engaged to my now wife. She happens to be super hot. And almost all my "friends" tried to get me single again or simply cut ties with me.
I could not be happier now with our very solid marriage of 14 years, and our 2 lovely kids.

It's funny. There are two types of "Ugly Duckling" films.
In the one where the Girl is the UD - they take a beautiful woman and do things to try and make her seem less attractive - which doesn't work. Then they glam her up and ... suddenly she's attractive. And that is the form of bull shit for those.
In the ones where the Guy is the UD - they take a guy who really is less attractive and then have a really hot chick fall for him - and that's the bull shit for that.
Now there's a third kind - which starts off realistically - but then turns to bull shit. That would be The Big Bang Theory. It's pretty common for nerds to fall for hot chicks - so - at the start of TBBT - Leonard falls instantly for Penny and the first couple of seasons where he's hopelessly in love with her are pretty spot on. Then - they always do this - they have to get the two together and out comes the bull shit.
They were smart enough to include the _Classic_ Nerd Fantasy - where the Pretty Person is tired of all these superficial Pretty People they've been associating with - and wants to have a deep, meaningful relationship with someone. That is where Penny basically says that and Leonard is _"How about me?"_ where Penny's first reaction is _"How about you ... what?"_ You see - she never _really_ wanted what she said she wanted but now she'd trapped herself into dating Leonard. She tries to get out of it - but Leonard kisses her and she's like _"The Cat's Alive"_ which is pure Bull Shit - the cat would have been dead.

You're right in that these scripts are more or less fantasy. On the other hand it would also be "BS" to claim a physically-attractive person has never in life been into someone who is less physically-attractive due to that person being funny and/or honest - that for sure happens. In fact there's a large percentage of folks who get together because they both have high 'attractive' scores who find they really can't stand being with one another.
