    Great video brother. I’ve take care everything that’s needed. From the research, what education level is needed, the job openings, the grades currently I have showing I have high aptitude in being a lawyer since I’m studying Pre-Law for my associates Currently. I’m ready to go with the information needed. Glad to have this video as a baseline that I had it all done already.
    Career Goal is being an Attorney. Jan 8th, 2025 is my appointment. My counselor already is asking for my resume and transcripts. I’ll keep you and your followers posted.

    For those at higher lvls of disabilities there are a few different tracks besides the one discussed here. I’m applying for the Independent living Track which is for *“Veterans who are not able to work, but need assistance to lead a more independent life.”* Luckily my university apparently has a vrne VA employee on staff. I’m switching from gi bill used at community college to university. It was like the counselors could officially recommend me to choose that, but they definitely gave me the wink wink to switch from gi bill. My only concern is a lower BAH than with the gi bill. I was reassured by vrne that “as long as you have even one day left of your gi bill, it won’t lower housing.” Wish I had gone with them earlier rather than use my gi bill. I think it’s worth it for paying for books/ IT electronic needs. With my health issues I’m not sure I will be successful but this gives me an opportunity to try. Good luck vets!

    Just got passed the first round of someone saying I am approved and entitled to then meet with someone who can then put in my application.... didn't know why I expected the VA to be slightly streamlined. They told me within 10-20 days a counselor should be reaching out.
    My concern is that I am well passed my 12yr from DOE. I am hopeful that being 100P&T though they can waive that.
    You example of laborious work and a bad back is spot on for me though!
    I also only have 21 days of GI Bill eligibility left, so not sure how that all works. If they would give me another 4yrs of education or not.

    • @Astrokeofluck
      @Astrokeofluck  Рік тому +2

      They will not give you another four years. VRE, generally, adds 12 months to your education benefits. However, since you do have time left on your GI you will get GI BAH rate

    • @BarbershopReviews
      @BarbershopReviews Рік тому +5

      @@Astrokeofluck from what I was reading they just changed the rules as well. It is kind of confusing so hoping I understand it right. It won't be helpful for me, but from what I was reading if you use the VR&E benefits first, they will give you up to the amount of GI bill benefits that you have available, so of you have 4 years of GI Bill and or Post 9/11, then you can use up to that amount as well and they will not deduct that availability from the GI bill. It will also allow you to use that GI bill after you finish the VR&E program as well. So in essence one could potentially get 6-8 years of education covered through these programs. I guess the old system the VR&E would take away the amount of GI bill available.
      I only have like 21 days of GI bill still left in my system, so does not seem like I will be able to do much, but I guess we will see what happens next week during my initial call.

    • @Astrokeofluck
      @Astrokeofluck  Рік тому +1

      I didn't know they made they change. You still should get a decent amount of time from VRE + your are still eligible for BAH

      @@Astrokeofluck Are you saying that if you've used up all of post-9/11, you can only go to school for 12 months? I was under the impression that you still could get up to 48 months of benefits from VR&E even if you have exhausted post-911. Please let me know if that is the case.

    I'm about to retire after 24 years... I couldn't work a GS job until 6 months anyway (180 day rule). How can I prove to a counselor that I can't work Career X when I'm literally not allowed by congress to work in the field I was forced to retire from? Thats the point of Vocational Rehab I would think. I can't immediately work doing something I've been doing for 24 years until at least 180 days. I need to do something to help me get another job.

    • @Astrokeofluck
      @Astrokeofluck  Рік тому +1

      After the 180 days is up you'll still have the same service connected disability. You either can or cannot work in the field due to service connected disability, 180 days or not.

      What they’re looking for is how your disabilities are making it difficult to do your current field/ how your current field is activating or making worse your disabilities.
      Once that’s accepted as valid then it will be a matter of the direction you want to go not aggravating/relieving your disabilities or your disabilities not preventing you from performing in that field/position.
      Mentally you need to get in the headspace that this person is your new best friend. Do what they ask of you sooner than later.
      Some of them are great, some are not but they are both your key and your gate.

    I was unemployed and homeless
    Which exacerbated injuries sustained in military
    Explained that the skills I required which were all exacerbated disabilities, in each job
    Quoted EEOC, ADA and the Rehabilitation Act in my numerous emails as well as retaliation
    Explain why cybersecurity and law will be more beneficial and the only option
    Took onet
    It confirmed that cyber and law and other interesting fields align with me
    Came up with an education plan for this
    Long term benefits
    And market analysis
    Explained why state funding is not helpful and that is circumventing legal responsibility
    Explained me being entitled due to being a veteran
    Also filed an internal complaint.
    My question is this viable information and what other source of info do I need?

      Seems like you have it pretty well covered. It you currently do not have work you are pretty much a shoe in for the program. Make sure you stress your SCD and why they have enabled you from getting work. What pain are the causing? Why you couldn't/can't work in past jobs that you have done? Why your goal will not worsen your SCD?

    Burmese pythons and shiny balls, the assurance I didn't know I needed ;) On a more serious note thank you for the great words of encouragement and breaking down the interview process. Do you mind if I ask what you applied for as a career track and how you managed to balance the pitch of "my disability handicaps my employability this way however, I would be a great fit because.." ? I have an interview next month and I fucked up the initial by misinterpreting it as trying to expand on the negatives of my disabilities as if I were submitting a claim with the idea that I'd be showing the counselor "look how fucked I am, I really need this." Obviously I was not only misinformed but, wildly unprepared but, by a stroke of luck I was given another shot and now I'm feverishly working to not make the same mistakes. Any personal experience on your end going through it you'd feel comfortable sharing would be greatly appreciated!

    • @Astrokeofluck
      @Astrokeofluck  Рік тому

      @granthoyt5291 let's take advantage of that stroke of luck.
      "How my disability handicaps my employability" - This should reference your CURRENT employment situation. How does your current situation affect your service connected disability?Not how your SCD effects your employability on a general basis. If you don't currently have a job, how has it affected you in getting a suitable job?
      "How I would be a great fit"
      Whatever you plan on using VRE for, why is that career path a better fit for your and your SCD?
      For example, if you have back problems and are currently working construction. You would can to speak on why you can't do construction anymore because of your back. Instead, you want to use VRE to get a degree in business so you're doing less manual labor, which will be more favorable to your back.
