The counselor was incompetent and denied me initially because of "reasons" that they could not explain other than audits wouldn't allow it. Then I contacted a Department of Rehabilitation representative (not knowing they work together) and they said I DID qualify. I told the DOR rep about the experience and it turned out that I was lied to. Just be prepared to be persistent because there are people in positions in that organization that just don't care or might be incompetent.
I’m at 90 % disability woth a pending claim for major depression and PTSD. Waiting to finalize that and then I’ll apply. Going from a Texas cop to hopefully train to be a a Heli pilot in Florida

In the fall I start at my local electrician union apprenticeship training program. I'm hoping I will still qualify for VR&E because my TBI is pretty bad and I can definitely use their help.

First, I would look to see if there are any other programs in your area that are R-ATP and will take the GI Bill. The Liberty program is trash, in my opinion, it's worth going elsewhere if you have the option. Second, do you already have your first class medical? private pilot license?

100%. Your disability could, and I'm sure does, effect your ability to do your job. Not only that, but it could trigger your PTSD. Whatever it does, make sure you articulate it! I have been going to school now for a year for a BS in digital cinematography. Which encompasses, writing, photography etc. How do I articulate this is what I want to do, other than have folks yelling at me all day?
@@NoisetteRoseProduction To the VA, it doesn't really matter what YOU want to do, unfortunately. Your interests matter some, but only after you are approved. To get approved you need to explain why, how, and to what extent your current career aggravates X service connected disability and why your future career will not aggravate X service connected disability.
What is the actual pay out? The VR&E benefits which is $3300+ or is it the housing allowance (which for me is $2100+) I can’t get an answer from no one on this matter? 😂 I was told it’s whatever the highest was, true?
Do you have Post 9/11 left? Yes, then it will be the MHA rate based on your zip code/school No, then you will get the VRE rate which is around $900 I think

Yes, but I wouldn't word it as a 'promotion' I would word it as a new job/career field because technically it would be. VRE covering promotions is a gray area. I think you have a better chance at getting approved by saying it's a new job/carreer
So I noticed you mentioned singular disability. If you're required to list all disabilities and have multiple, how can you convey which disabilities would or wouldn't be affected?
Yes! You will list all of your disability. However, there should be a place where they essentially ask "what is the issue you are experiencing" that is where you press on the specific disability and what's the problem
How does using your gi bill for a trade school thinking you could do the work but failed because is wast suitable for you and then trying a different trade that wasnt any better so that leaves the VR&E program left as an only choice because i cant get or hold a job for the life of due to lack of education or experience in the work force. Can I expect to get a better direction from this program because im drowning out here and it isn't fun at all.
Legal duty to assist. They have a legal duty, by law, to help you develop your claim. In other words, if they shouldn't be there just trying to disapprove you

I am hoping VR&E can help an old man get a job or re-trained for a different type of work, other then phone customer service job. Tinnitus and bad hearing loss, made me realized no more phone job for me. Thanks for all you do, for us veterans.

No matter. You don't need a job in order to apply. It will help you get approved more likely than not. How is your current unemployment status influenced by your service connected disabilities? Make sure you articulate that in your first meeting

@ you can try to get approved without a PPL but your chances are probably greater if you have one. I would at least have a second class medical

VRE might be helpful for you because you will get a counselor.
