I think it was very well done, it is the first time I have seen budgies in the wild and could not stop smiling... with that said I am sure they are no different than any animal and it is the strong survive, if you were that big of a risk he would not have come, nor would have the ones stayed in the tree. I am leaving for Africa in the summer and while I am sure I won't find budgies, I hope to have an amazing opportunity as you did... and most of all capture it as beautifully. Thanks for sharing
May I know where is the location you and your photographers went to there? You may watch my videos and please tell me whether my grey bird is very Rare or not.
//late// while some budgies would abandon their babies, it's more unlikely they'd do it because a human got too close. normally they do it out of their own choice even when nothing like a human is around. I go near my not-really-tame budgies when they lay eggs and they always return to the nest. While it's not the case everytime and some budgies would leave, it's more likely the father came back.
i would like to have budgies at home, but when I see them in the wild I feel I m doing something wrong, although the budgies you get to buy are not caught in the wilderness but "homebred"....
yeah, totally agree! where I live (Denmark) we don't have budgies in the wild, but this is no different than when my dad is checking out the nest boxes that the garden sparrows flock around. Man, when do people get some perspective on things!
P.s. by the sounds of that nest there was alot more than one to feed, how could one expect a dad to hold enough at once to feed the gang. (mine can not and they only have babies and make a few trips (I think one is to feed mom) :) Just my two cents :)
@Theshofumiah1 i have 2 budgies in my house and we leave the cage open.. they get outside and have fun but they love going back in their cage.. it feels like home to them... and also.. as a pet.. if u let them out in the wild.. they wont last long because they have been breed to stay domestic... i hope it helps
@Schwinntreefrog Thanks! We found ourselves in the right place at the right time, I guess. The parent budgie had one eye on us, but was determined to get on with the job.
Look me up if you come to Alice Springs and maybe I can take you there. It's not far from town. Your grey budgie is very nice. Haven't seen many like that, but I'm not an expert and i wouldn't know if it's rare. They're never that colour in the wild!
Yes that would be an honour, as long as you say it came from Dave Richards at the Alice Online UA-cam site. And I'd love to see your finished work if possible.
@Theshofumiah1 When I was a kid, my brother found a galah walking down the street. and we adopted him. I let him out as often as I could and sometimes he would fly away and sit on the electricity pole across the street. I don't think George would have lasted long in the wild. After an hour or two he would fly home. Eventually I took him to a sanctuary called Lone Pine. He was in a much bigger cage there with hundreds of other galahs, but I still don't know if he was happier there.
The budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) /ˈbʌdʒərᵻɡɑːr/, also known as the common pet parakeet or shell parakeet and informally nicknamed the budgie, is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot. Budgerigars are the only species in the Australian genus Melopsittacus and are found wild throughout the drier parts of Australia where the species has survived harsh inland conditions for the last five million years.
When any bird gets excited, nervous, or wary, their eyes start "pinning" Getting bigger and smaller. My domestic budgie has little fear of predation, save for when his big mean humans come to CHANGE HIS DISHES,,,, ;) His eyes are generally larger and black most of the time- Until he feels threatened. Then they take on a similar look to these wild guys. I reckon what you're seeing is an adaptive wild trait...They'll always bee on the lookout for predators.
fun fact the coloring on the budgies plumage you see in this video is the only color you will see wild budgies have. when you domesticate them then you will get the mutations.
Person shooting this video (myself) was taking pictures of budgerigars in branches above, when the parent budgie, clearly aware of my presence and that of the photographer arrived on the scene. We didn't move at all, merely shifted or focus to the bird and its baby. (MTC)
@Theshofumiah1 I don't know the answer to that. I don't like seeing birds in a cage myself, but I don't know what budgies think. I'm sure they appreciate love and care from their owners.
Si. Australia es el hábitat natural de estos bellos periquitos. Yo tuve cuatro en total cuando era chiquita. Ya de grande supe que las aves no deben estar en jaulas. Nacieron para ser libres.
when the bird came out of the tree's hole i squealed, it was so cute
Baby budgerigars look sooo cute!
Beautiful clip showing how budgies breed in the wild. Absolutely super!

I wish I could shapeshift into a budgie and infiltrate these budgie-riddled trees to cuddle and preen with them.

My two budgies were a little babys but they grew up some more feathers and we kept them my blue one is skinny and my purple one chubby
i would like to have budgies at home, but when I see them in the wild I feel I m doing something wrong, although the budgies you get to buy are not caught in the wilderness but "homebred"....
I reckon the budgies up in the branches might have been up to some bitey kisses, though ...
Ok,thanks! But one more thing: If I was in is Singapore, will it be that far to go to Alice Springs? And is it in Austraila? :)
yeah, totally agree! where I live (Denmark) we don't have budgies in the wild, but this is no different than when my dad is checking out the nest boxes that the garden sparrows flock around. Man, when do people get some perspective on things!

i like the babys
Absolutely - except on film! Aboriginal people are allowed to hunt them on traditional lands, however. They are considered good tucker.
Lovely. I have a flock in the aviary. like to be out there on a sunny day with a cuppa talking to the bgudgies.
Now that is not a dead beat daddy. ;-)

Happy Fathers Day!!!

@Schwinntreefrog Thanks! We found ourselves in the right place at the right time, I guess. The parent budgie had one eye on us, but was determined to get on with the job.

I havd two of them, male and female as pets. Not anymore and I never will. I learnt that birds are supposed to be in the wild, not in cages.
You realize that, you killed them, right? That is, if they strave after you released them.
Ended by scaring her lol
I have an assignment coming up (documentary) and I need some videos of budgies in the wild. Would I be able to use this?
Yes that would be an honour, as long as you say it came from Dave Richards at the Alice Online UA-cam site. And I'd love to see your finished work if possible.
@aknames I'll bite, whats the difference?
Nice vid
@LOTRlover100 Thanks. A case of being in the right place at the right time!

The parrots are in australia ????????
Info about plants ....Budgies are from Australia and South America
