You nailed it when you said that this adventure seemed like something the GM made for their own table. Because the Basic Fantasy project is entirely volunteer driven, the content is home cooking. The AA and CS series of books will be a hit and miss of cherished recipes and untested concoctions in progress. Anyway, I love your channel. I came for the previous BFRPG review, but I'm now working my way through all your TSR Basic adventures as well.

Welcome to the Channel Todd! We're fans of BFRPG and you're right.... this one feels like it's in the "untested concoctions" category. We hope you will find some of our videos useful!

We are thinking of doing either BF1 or BF2 next…. Can’t decide yet 😅

Hey Lost Adventurer, this reminds me of 1e. I think the creator of this adventure was trying to be Gary Gygax 😂. I would treat it just like you said, it needs to be adjusted. Can you imagine if the party figures out that they can just climb up to a 4th story window to get in. One wimpy encounter and they are rich heroes. If I had brand new people playing D&D or whatever system it may be. Then this type of simple or more direct adventure makes sense, but it still needs that adjustment. The idea of it is cool, but deep done I think somebody was just trying to make a quick buck or they just don't play TTRPG's. Three fire balls does seem lazy and/or a lack of gaming experience. No matter if the adventure is good, bad or ugly please keep doing what you are doing. Inspiration can found anywhere.
Thanks for the video you have a wonderful day!

Thanks Matt! Also think of how your players would respond after crawling all the way to the 5th level to find that someone had just scaled the walls.... we think there is a chance it could lead to some annoyance.
It's an OK skeleton to work on... we just expected more

No, thank you man. You've been here since the beginning. I appreciate it.
In regards to BFRPG. I think it's a combination there being a real lack of any sort of money (their free download, along with their pricing, keeps them off of games tore shelves) along with your observation. If someone came along and gave them a good 2-3 really good adventure modules, this would probably be more popular. KH1 is the next one I'm going to do.

    This adventure sounds pretty annoying.

It’s looked really interesting in the beginning, but once we dug in a little further…. Yeah. Issues.

Hmmm...interesting. Now I know why "Basic Fantasy RPG" isn't a bigger thing (even though it has such a loyal following). The official published adventures for a game can really elevate it or prevent it from taking off. I don't mind the black-and-white graph paper maps at all (its very 80s)...but the storyline and NPCs need to be excellent to make an impact in this day and age. Compare this to other OSR games like "Old School Essentials" where real effort was placed on their published adventures. 🤔 (Still glad you're here reviewing these indie adventure modules tho!)
