    1:25 i've noticed this a few times, but why do japanese people sometimes use katakana to write words which aren't foreign/loan/names etc? here torinasai is written in katakana where i'd expect hiragana to be used, i've never fully understood what influences this choice

      Katakana is also often used in horror genre to emphasize that the speaker is a supernatural being.

      Katakana is used for the cases you mentioned but not only those. In this case, you can think of it as analogous to italicization. It causes you to read the text in a different tone.
