ngl, I enjoy this peanut much more, this was actually unironically a helpful advice and realization. This might be among the top most practically useful videos I have watched in years, thank you
That’s called presence. Read the power of now it’s a great book about this. You will only ever experience “the now”. So why worry about the past or future essentially.
I've noticed that it's the complete opposite for me, that I only enjoy doing mundane tasks if I get to think about my projects. But maybe the reason for this is because the thing I'm working on is a story (a novel) and that naturally requires lots of thinking to develop it. Plus, it's fun, so if I let new ideas for the book marinate in my head while doing mundane tasks, then I'll actually have fun during those tasks. I think the reason why this is an exception to the rule is because it's a creative project, and you can have fun coming up with new ideas for different elements of a story in your head, whereas you can't do the same with a sport hobby like bowling.
@ricdeh1701 Yeah, I like how it's fun to even just think of ideas for a topic you're passionate about. I think that's the reason I actually never get bored, even when I'm doing literally nothing or a boring task, or going on a walk without any sort of headphones or entertainment at all.
A study that had the subjects brains wired up to see what happens when people are happy, and what consistently causes happiness. The only thing they found that consistently made the brain fire like it does when the person is happy is focusing the mind on one thing at a time
Thank you peanut. You just reminded me that I had to uninstall tiktok and Instagram, which I did just now. I have a really big exam next week and I was just doomscrolling a lot which caused brain fog and stuff. I'm sure this will help me focus and get more enjoyement out of my studies
Mindfulness plays a big role in what you’re talking about. However, there is no conscious agency that can reduce distraction, the feeling of one is an illusion. To clear your mind you’ll need to change the contents of your mind, which can be practiced through meditation. The answers you’re looking for run deeper than simply dropping the things that distract you. The truth is you are always distracted regardless of what you’re doing unless you develop the sophisticated skill of ceasing to be distracted. I’d encourage you to keep your curiosity strong about how our minds make us feel. That’s what got me into self transcending mindfulness.
Kyriakos "Grizzly" Kapakoulak famously says "You have to live it" - meaning, to achieve contentment in any situation or task, one has to live it out and do it as if it is the only thing in their life at that moment rather than treat such times as meer chance or liminal distractions. You have to live it.
I have a few friends that make a trip out of filling up their car and then just going home. Like wtf? This enrages me. Am I the only one? Just seems like throwing away your time.
i like so set rules i have to follow that make life more interesting. i love the rolling stones but i can't listen to them unless when i am visiting croatia so it's like a game soundtrack for a specific area.

Yep, I feel the same way with mathematics and engineering/physics, my mind always wanders back to those things no matter what I'm doing.

One reason why we like video games and junk food is because it gives us presence

I have a few friends that make a trip out of filling up their car and then just going home. Like wtf? This enrages me. Am I the only one? Just seems like throwing away your time.
I always fill up on the way home from or to something else like work or the grocery store etc.
That’s a good point I hate people that do this it makes no sense smh.
