waltz vs dicaprio....hmmmm a tough choice.
He wasn’t even nominated. That’s the true travesty.
Insanity i say!
Yeah it does not matter is he won over Waltz. They both could have even won if DiCaprio was nominated. In 1961 actor Maximilian Shell who played a Lawyer in the film Judgement at Nuremberg was not even in the main staring cast. He was billed 5’th on the list, and unknown and won Best Actor in a Leading Roll.
I think Leo scared everyone but Samuel Jackson, he was loving it.

One of the greatest scenes in the history of filmmaking. Leo’s acting here is terrifying, the intensity is unmatched. He’s one of the greatest of all time. Never seen a bad movie of his.
Facts
I've seen Leo's entire catalog several times over. The fact that he won the Oscar, for hands down his worst performance, bothers me so much. Truly does. People say the movie was good, im like, yeah, sure, he's never been in a bad movie, BUT compared to all his other work, it's the worst of his work by a mile. Leo wasn't gonna win any wards for this one as waltz having considerably more screen time and also having a hell of a performance, plus literally every other character in the film was spot on down to candy's accountant.

Quentin must have been so happy he casted Dicaprio for this role
I think its the other way around. Di Caprio must have been happy that tarantino casted him
neon nah, DiCaprio said in an interview that this wasn’t an easy role for him lol search it up. The man was amazing though, definitely deserved an award
KfreshTV huh? do you actually think a challenging role is a despised or bad thing for an actor? you know acting is a craft and most actors dont look for easy but to them appealing roles lol course di caprio accepted gratefully is to be in a tarantino movie
neon no, nor was I implying that in my opinion. As I am comfortable (still learning new things daily) in the entertainment industry myself, I’ve seen many incidents where actors may not like or wasn’t comfortable with the role itself but they make it work. DiCaprio stated that he was not comfortable playing the specific character at first, did he make it work? Most definitely, anything beyond this though in regards to how he felt with the roll I’m not too sure about( if he eventually got comfortable with it)
neon I do understand what your saying, I was only making a point that I recalled DiCaprio speaking on the role in an interview & him saying at first I wasn’t too comfortable with it. Yeah of course he may have been willing to do it, but making those adjustments to get in character etc. may have been difficult for him is what I’m saying (going from the interview) . Regardless he did an exceptional Job like always. No issues with me on the film.
diCaprio deserved an Oscar for this role more than the one for Revenant
Yeah, I agree, his earlier roles were more oscar-worthy than The Revenant; all he did was crawl around in the snow for two hours and get into fights with animals.
But this scene is just full of such presence and everything.
Ale B ABSOLUTELY
That's how Academy Awards work. Voters have no idea what they're doing so they just wait until the fans get pissy and they finally give the guy an Oscar 20 years later just because they have a new movie out and the voters "owed them one." Just like with Al Pacino in Scent of a woman
Very debatable, I personally think he was at his best in The Wolf Of Wall Street”
He deserved one for the "Wolf of Wallstreet", not this. He barely acted (time wise) in this one.
Dude... he was so scary in this role. People are right. One of the most terrifying and one of the best performances in acting right here by Leo. The guy is truly a legend. I have shivers down my spine every time!
u should watch The Driver the next time you feel like an old 70s action movie. Bruce Dern in any role where he's a corrupt terrible person is far more frightening than dicaprio in an antagonist role. it also stars the girl from Possession.
I’m sure there was an element to realism in the reaction from Christopher Waltz and Kerry Washington too. I know I’d be scared if Leo was screaming and waiving a hammer over his head that close to me.

His acting was great here, but this movie also had Christoph Waltz in it, so Leo had some pretty hard competition that year.

The fact that he was legit bleeding from the actual damn accidental cut on his hand and played it into the scene is...genius. And the fact that Kerri didn't balk at getting this man's DNA on her face is professional as hell!
It's fake blood after it cuts away from the wide of the table to when Kerri is brought in. But he was in character during that wide shot. The cut became part of the scene and Tarantino worked it into the scene. While I appreciate that he was in character all along, aren't actors supposed to do that? Hell, if I am not wrong, actors in Stanley Kubrick's films underwent way more agony to give their career-best performance. While I appreciate Leonardo's dedication, nothing to go gaga about. For instance, Weird Al put up one of his best performances immediately after the death of his parents and he responded stating that if his performances brought happiness to those suffering, maybe it would help him get through the dark phases too.

It's the tiny tiny details, when Samuel Jackson's character goes to count the money the fact that he can count actually says alot about the treatment of house slaves, but the slight struggle to count it as he isn't as proficient as he could be with a formal education. Surrounded by Leo's extraordinary acting on top of it. What a scene
Made me wonder did they have 1000 dollar bills back then? He went to count 12k which if it were today would be 120 x $100 bills (which isn't fitting in any wallet)
It's a crime against humanity Leo hasn't won the Oscar for this incredible performance.

The acting in this scene is even more exceptional considering that Di caprio didn't mean to cut his hand, but when he realised he was bleeding he just went with it and Tarrentino decided to keep the scene because it worked so well.
That piece of glass he pulls out of his finger at the end is really a piece of glass that was in his finger.
Partially false and true. He did cut his hands and they did decide to keep the scene, however, between cuts Leo did get his hand fixed. Leo's hand is fixed in the cuts after Broomhilda enters the scene and does not have any (real) glass in his hand or finger.
TheHarboe what about when he rubbed the blood on her face? was that part with real or fake blood?
harleydontplay It's fake blood. The take ends after he says "bring out hildy". You can see a different between the blood before and after that cut if you look carefully at his hand. The (real) blood has run down Leos fingers before Broomhilda enters the scene. After she enters there is no (fake) blood on his fingers.
TheHarboe thank goodness. otherwise it would be ouch momenta
Do you really believe that he got a big piece of glass in his finger and he still managed to fist his hands hard like that and smeared the blood on her face without feeling any more pain when the glass goes deeper in his finger?

The blood that he wiped on her was fake blood. He did legitimately cut his hand when he slammed it on the table and he stayed in character, but Tarantino called a cut before Kerry came into the room so that they could treat Leo's hand, at which point he suggested smearing blood on Washington's face, to which Washington and Tarantino agreed to, so they got some fake blood. He wasn't going to wipe real blood on her face due to concerns with infection and the glass shards that may have still been embedded in his hand.

If you don’t believe me, look at where the camera is when Samuel comes out, it’s on the table. And In the original shot where he cuts his hand….well we can clearly see the table with no camera on it
@@Rawlingm I hope so. He rubbed that blood all over her face
You know the movie is a masterpiece when an actor who known for his role as one of the best villains in cinema (Waltz) and an actor who really famous for his roles as good guy/protagonist and the center of the film in most of his movies (Dicaprio) switching roles and they nailed 100% for their new roles in this movie..
I would say, even Samuel L. Jackson did an exceptional job with his character. When Django blows him up in the end, you are actually happy to see him get blown to teeny bits and roasted in fire at the same time. Throughout the movie you grow to dislike his character, and think that he could undermine his own people just to get something else for himself. He was greedy and didn't care if another black person was hurt if it meant he wouldn't get treated like he did by Calvin. His role was just as chilling as Leo's. I agree that Leo really outdid himself in this film. He and Samuel were as bad as you could imagine, and then would surprise you more with their self serving behavior. Fine piece of work for them both.
Everyone loves a good villain.
Dicaprio isn’t really a good guy the main character but very morally challenged
“Who known”

I have seen this scene tons of times and each times i am in awe about the AMAZING acting skills and talent displayed by each one of the actors here, simple spectacular, Leo should have got an oscar for this! so perfect acting, could not be better, Samuel is awesome too, same as Foxx, Ms. Kerry Washington and the fantastic Christopher Waltz, all under the baton of Quantin Tarantino. Such an amazing talent in just 1 scene is in itself incredible. we love this scene, enjoy it enormously, BRAVO!!!
3:11 even in such a psychotic situation Doc still has manners
And he didn’t get the god damn Oscar
At least he got one for the Revenant although he deserved one for this
Don't say that
Ay, I honestly don't know why Christoph Waltz got the award above DiCaprio. Nothing against Waltz, I actually think his performance as Hans Landa was better than DiCaprio's performance here but his performance as Dr Schultz just wasn't to the same level as DiCaprio as Calvin Candie.
Well because Christoph Waltz won
Not yet!!
Tarrantino has earned his place among the best directors of all time due to his unique style of storytelling and extreme violence in almost every film he has made

unique as in his foot fetish
Indeed

I just read he cut his hand for real by mistake when he broke a glass on the table. But he stayed in character. And added the blood to the scene. When Quentin yelled cut everyone started clapping 🎉. He’s so good at being a villain.
1:50 samuel jackson looks the hands of leo multiple times
DiCaprio doesn’t need an Oscar to prove that he’s an amazing actor
The acting on this movie for dicaprio was god tier jesus he scared me when he slammed his hand on the table GOD TIER!!
That was actual glass and he really did break it cutting his hand, and when someone walked past the camera, they cut and healed his hand, and since the act was so good, they cover his cut hand in fake blood
@Black Silver yeah that’s what I mean
Yep
Came back to this after watching Titanic again I’m like wtf? This the same person?
The fact that the Revenant was his first Oscar win is a crime. Leo has been killing it since he was an adolescent.
Yes and he deserved that Oscar for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Not Tommy Lee Jones for the Fugitive 🙄
0:25 the man in the left is visibly shaken and disturbed as di Caprio slammed and cut his palm.
Well he's also an actor.
Look like he almost said something
He was about to interrupt the scene but decided to stay still
YeshuaJesusis King Really? Was that really an accident?
Antti-Jussi Lakanen yea Leo’s just so nice he crushed the scene anyway
I love how the crew knew Leo was wounded by the glass shard was unscripted then they proceed to add fake blood to roll with it. The improvs by Leo and Tarantino are phenomenal.
u sure its not one take?
@@Tazhel It would be highly inappropriate for him to touch Kerry Washington´s face with actual blood on his hand.
@@Tazhel it is not
@@iusedtobehere8726 thats false, he was bleeding everywhere. They even said so behind the scenes.
This is kindda fake, that was not fake blood, even Samuel L Jackson said the blood was real
The good Ole days
Wtf are you talking about????????
The fact that he actually cut his hand on that glass and continued like nothing happened is amazing
The girl was like “Leo..leonar... this wasnt part of...” as she got smeared by his blood😂😂
By that point it wasn't his blood anymore. They patched him up between scenes and returned to it but now with fake blood instead.
Luciano Garcia oh i didnt think of thatt!!
@@Kal20El IMDB has another version: "When Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) smashes his hand on the dinner table, DiCaprio accidentally crushed a small stemmed glass with his palm and really began to bleed. He ignored it, stayed in character, and continued with the scene. Quentin Tarantino was so impressed that he used this take in the final print, and when he called cut, the room erupted in a standing ovation. DiCaprio's hand was bandaged, and he suggested the idea of smearing blood onto the face of Kerry Washington. Tarantino and Washington both liked this, so Tarantino got some fake blood together."
@@Kal20El no it was fake
Paul Rudd: "Jonathan?"
3:06 leo returns to his own accent here, a little.
Tapan Joshi that part really ruined a scene that could’ve won him the Oscar, it always stands out to me.
@@SpliffyHusk he's hand is bloodying
@@SpliffyHusk are you fucking serious?
Abraham Rodriguez bruh what?
Tapan Joshi No he doesn’t.
The beauty of this film is actually the fact that here the good guys achieved their goal to set free Broomhilda only to ruin it with Dr. Schultz pride and anger at being outsmarted.
This man has level 20 charisma, with a proficiency in persuasion, deception, and intimidation

3:44 that was a dangerous move by Leo with the hammer..
its not a real hammed lol, its probabl plastic and they added the sound at post prod
3:35 more dangerous imagine if he mashed the brains out of that poor woman
@@ali10833 the hammer literally shatters the glass in front of the doc, I don't think a plastic hammer would be able to do that lol
@@striker11404 I didn't see a shatter, I see the class get tossed a few inches and turned upside down (then of course there's a shatter sound effect post).
Considering the cut and blood on his hand was real and unscripted and he just ran with it I don't really think he gave a fuck about the hammer hitting someone's fingernail 😂
I love how him bleeding acts as karma for the character
The fact he accidentally cut his hand when he smashed the glass and was bleeding badly, and continued on with the scene without breaking character.. and even improvising, and putting blood on Kerry Washington's face is crazy.. and they kept the whole scene!
When Kerry is brought in, the shot changes. It’s fake blood after that point-though it was real at first.
The performance of a lifetime
Leo was robbed of an Oscar for this
No doubt, at least he got one for the Revenant but he deserved it more here
He wasn't nominated for supporting actor which was bullshit, but Waltz gave the best performance of the year and deserved the oscar instead.
