FM24 squad building approach:
1. Fix the tactic first then recruit for the tactic
2. Squad grid - 2 per position
3. Sort out the finances
4. Player recruitment: Fill gaps, improve weak links (export attribute data from FM using filters then use python to rank and compare)

I've been looking forward to the update on the series! Also be careful with the Brazilian league schedule. The season is really long there so you need a big squad to get through the enormous season.

As much as I like the concept of python I think it’s underpinned by using an engine breaking tactic.
Be good to see it used in other formations and systems
I use it in my save, I'm playing a 442 with the wide midfielders in a more advanced position (basically a 424), it works when you know what you want from the tactic, I used it to loan in players that will make my squad stronger, but I don't really know which attributes are more important to the roles I have. It's actually working to make me differentiate similar players and to help me choose one of two or three options.
Not about to claim I'm a tactics expert so don't have a strong view either way. Once I'm fully round the Pentagon I'll start to experiment
I had the same concerns, so I tried to experiment with the concept. I used the 4231 Gegenpressing template that is provided when you click on Gegenpressing starting out with no tactic at the beginning of the save. So a very basic tactic provided by SI themselves with no changes from my end at all.
It still works quite well, however the 343 clearly is stronger than your average tactic. I started in the second german league, after 10 years I have won everything at least once when using the template. With the 343 it took me only 5 years.
Love this! I’d love to see you do more rebuilds. You do them in much more depth than most and it’s really interesting to see.
Do you ever take into account morale/squad dynamics/social groups/hierarchy, etc. when rebuilding a team?
Thanks man. Yes on morale if I'm tearing down a squad I try to keep the squad leaders on board while I make the transition, say for the first season or so. I keep small squads so normally don't have too many problems re playing time etc.
When I sign good players with no release clauses on long contracts I get a lot of 'wants to join a bigger club' unhappiness - but that just means the player is better than the league and will play well despite the unhappiness. And by the time the Copa Libertadores knockouts come around the unhappiness will fade away. So to my mind a certain degree of squad unhappiness is the optimal position - it's actually better than zero unhappiness IYSWIM

A question: where are your tactics from? I’ve noticed that I’m using a pretty similar one, however with a CF in the middle. But it’s hard finding a CF for lower leagues, so I might change to AF.

Love the app. Struggle to understand how your tactic is so successful though ( my ignorance). Only five roles used! This just blows my brain. Surely your midfield is wide open in transition?

Hey man. I play the Brazilian league regularly with Vasco da Gama (VDG in your save) and it's not a good idea to try the league with only 22 players. Usually if you are contending for the league, the cup and Libertadores you have around 80 games per season. If one of your players gets injured you can't maintain the form with only 1 player in the position. I usually go for around 30 players (including good youth players) which seem to work just fine. Rotation is very important in the Brazilian league.
Thanks. Yeah as I got more into the Gremio save I ended up with three per position - 2 'proper' players and a somewhat over-promoted u18 player but they did get minutes due to the fixture schedule

I don't recommend build a 23 player squad in brazilian calendar with three games per week. Brazilian teams usually works with 30~33 players squad, specially in FM with injuries (idk, but I had more injuries while playing in Brazil than playing in Europe or other continents) and some flu outbreaks that happen every now and then
Thanks. Yeah I've ended up with 3 per position, not the 2 I normally do - albeit the 3rd is a u18 in most instances

hey can you please make it so that it also shows CA / PA of the player, optional ofcourse. Or how can I add it if its possible ? because most of the time if its not the current ability, the potential ability is a really big deciding factor for me when I'm choosing a player, and I'm sure that is it for many other managers
Its a single player game so feel free to play however you want, of course, but I wouldn't think it would be very popular since it almost feels like cheating knowing the exact ability and potential of every player
what I want to say is that basically nobody plays with them on
Yeah exactly - YMMV and not judging anyone else (its a single player game after all) but for me knowing CA and PA hurts immersion so I don't include them

I’m sorry non FM player question, how the hell does Drausio ( 11:12 ) have a real face, at the age of 21?
I know FM like keeping track of their youngsters, but one I refuse to believe they’re taking headshots of 11 year olds, and two I definitely don’t believe that picture, although on the young side, no chance is he THAT young
It's a newgen cause he was introduced into the database in 2027, I think that he has the same ID as the player in his picture (I don't know how) and the game took the real face and gave it to the newgen.

I've simply tweaked it over a couple of versions of FM, it's nothing special tactically but it works well enough
