- LEGOLAND Windsor Resort have announced that Viking River Splash will CLOSE permanently in September 2023. In this video I talk about the history of this family rapids ride, along with sharing my thoughts on why I think the ride is closing. Along with that I talk about what we could see replace Viking River Splash in the future!

I loved this when I was little and I remember when it was new, I was only 5! It had so many water effects it's part of what got me into theme parks. I have 2000s Legoland to thank for that :)
It was a great ride back in the day!
@@ThemeParkWorldwidehey I really think that lake George will love that you guys are talking about the best roller coaster in the world bobcat I’m excited to ride it I love it it’s beautiful
Such a shame the UK is losing all these great water rides over the past few years 😥
Unfortunately so
With regards to the theme, Lego ran a range of vikings sets from 2006-2007, which tied in with the theme of the ride. Sadly, no further sets continued and this felt like a outlier many years later. I can see why the theming was removed.
I remember riding this in 2007 when it first opened as a child. Absolutely loved it and many happy memories
Was a great ride in its early years, all the water effects running the big theming elements, mural on the station wall and the hedge maze and it overlooked was a really charming section of the park. The rapids got you soaked and was easily the best rapids in the country in my opinion, however in its current state its poor :( If they cant return it to its former glory its not a big miss at the park hopefully there's an exciting development there in the future.
It was a fantastic ride when it opened!
Fortunately managed to ride this attraction with my son not long after it opened. Seemed a great addition at the time, with lots of theming. Only hope is that many other people get to enjoy what replaces it.
I do fear for the future of water rides in the UK especially Log Flumes and River Rapids, So many are being Closed and removed with no replacements lined up. Water rides are many guests favourite rides especially when they cater to all ages. I think the main reason they are being removed is due to their high Maintenance and Running costs compared to other rides.
Unfortunately so. I do love a good water ride and many people do!
I went to Alton Towers once - went on the Corkscrew, looked at, but didn’t ride Nemesis, went on the log flume and the rapids ride and the thruppenny cinema - 3-D cinema - showing my age, here! Each ride had an hour-long queue - just as well they’re free!
One of the earliest examples of a theme park where you pay to get in, but all games and rides were free was Lightwater Valley in Yorkshire - the one and only time I ever went - and this was not long after the initial opening - they had a train, Fort William (an adventure playground) and an archery section - my family and I rode all the way round on the train to see what there was, then stayed on the train and spent the entire time in Fort William - a host of new rides have since been added, but that was the only time I ever went!
I remember childhood memories from this beauty a shame it declined in overall appearance, I remember getting my mum on with her screaming and getting soaked with the bucket, this ride will always hold a special place for me!
One water rides comes back and one goes lol. Hope we get some more.
Also I'm going Towers on Tuesday I can't wait, just a last minute thing been invited by my sister can finally see Nemmy in person wasn't expecting to see it till it was up and running next season!
Love the news updates and the effort you put in to your videos!😃
Thank you so much!
NOOOOO! Viking river splash was my absolute favourite ride to go on at LegoLand in my opinion. It’s also such a shame that it’s going for good!😭😭😭😭
Love hearing your memories and knowledge and seeing those great images as well.
It's currently a shell of its former self so I won't be too sad to see it go. I just hope that the space is repurposed - I'd love to see a trackless dark ride in the park but would require a lot of groundwork to level it out if it was to go there.
That would be great!
It is a shame, but i think it did need a change especially after how long it has been active for. I remember riding this and it was good, but i agree with the theming issue. Once thing about this ride, i loved the load in/out…I am excited to see what is next for this space, i hope they use it well because as you said it is a big space
Nooo so sad 😢 I never got to ride it
My favourites were bob coasters, pirate ships, polyp/octopus, similar to music express rides and water rides when I was younger. And mainly non-looping coasters.
He should make a channel called theme park worldwide news where he only looks at things happening with theme parks worldwide
We like to cover the theme park news in this channel in-between our vlogs and other videos!
I’m not surprised we go a lot and it’s very rarely open. It’s a good ride but I’ve not been on it in ages because every time we go it’s closed
I'd love a small scale wooden family coaster or a wildmouse. I think theyd do really well with lego themeing
I have such fond memories of going on the Viking River Splash.
It was such a fun ride, and it was one of the few rides I always got to experience with my Nan. I also got to experience the huge bucket soaking once, which wasnt fun at the time but looking back it was a unique, thrilling experience!!!
It's always a shame to see a childhood ride close, but they have made the right decision.
I've been going back to Legoland a few times these past few years, and every time it has been shut. It even disappeared off the live ride queue times on the app (rather than say closed), which made me suspicious and think it was going to be closed permanently. I also remember some of the effects stopped working after a few years (back in 2012), and they removed a lot of stuff that did get you wet.
Still, a great video. Thanks for the update! 👍😁😁
Thanks for sharing your memories!
I don't remember ever going on it as I haven't been there in years but it sounds/sounded like a great water ride. Also today I have finally been on Icon and The Big One.
Hey there Shawn oh dear nooooooooo the Viking river splash LegoLand Windsor my favourite theme park and very excited Florida is coming up very shortly very exciting and Charlotte yay yay yay yay I love you Shawn and Charlotte have a wonderful day today xx
This was one of the first rides I rode on my merlin park trip when I was younger. I loved viking river splash so much and the fact that I'll never get on it again after my first time riding it is very sad :(
R.I.P Viking River Splash, off to the attraction graveyard you go.
About time. For most of its life it's just been a weird concrete eyesore. I'm sure they can put something much more spectacular in that space that can be comfortably ridden all year round.
It was closed when we went in August. No notices online or anything. Family favourite of the park.
Never went on it, but, i am actually glad its closing, it never looked appealing and never looked as fun as some of the other river rapids like adventure cove river rapids at drayton manor and congo river rapids at alton towers, i hope legoland do invest in a new rapids ride sometime but theyr'e closing one now, i dont think it'll happen in the coming years.
Wow this has been there every time I have visited since I was young and it is such a shame to see it leave cause the theming wasn't top notch but it was a fun ride
Going on thursday will be my last ride 😢 was a massive part of my childhood. Can remember the bucket at the end and the crying viking at start. Sad to see it go but it’s really needed.
Will be good to see what happens in the future with the area - it's a big space there to put something decent in 👌
Don't you find it a little odd how Alton Towers STILL haven't done any PR for Scarefest and you can't even book ANY fast track tickets or mazes for October 1st even though that's only 1 full month away?? What the hell are they doing besides making cringe Gen Z Tik-Toks about the park?? Please shed some light on it, I'm starting to worry
They are in a really bad place at the moment
Hi There, a great Video, thank you for sharing your thoughts, I do remember the bucket effects and extra theming, was a pretty good ride back in the day but not so much now, it will be interesting to see what happens in the future. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Kind regards Peter
P.S. hopefully they'll consider introducing a new Water Rollercoaster.
I remember this ride very fondly when it opened. It's a shame it's going.
It is a decent slab of land though a bit awkardly cornered with The Ninjago ride there. I think something similar to Polar Explorer from Bilund could do really well. More in the direction of a family thrill coaster rather than full on family.
3:30 for some reason on all the boards around Legoland, they say, spinning spider is part of land of the Vikings to
I just bought this years Halloween Horror nights mug and was thinking do I need another theme park mug . But your collection makes me feel happy with my decision, you can never have enough mugs .
It looks awesome!
I would love to see a ride like symbolica in its place with the tours being different lego themes. They could build some incredible scenes and it would be a great family ride.
Always broken when I went so never got to ride it 😢
10:20 yes another family coaster is needed. Legoland needs it. Nothing crazy just a good family coaster
Definitely
@@ThemeParkWorldwidethis aged perfectly with the opening of speedway
If anyone seen my comment on the recent legoland vlog you would know my first trip there about 3 weeks ago was atrocious anyway this was the last ride we rode on and although visually while on the ride was not interesting but I was extremely amazed by the passenger puthrough. I was actually super impressed how we were at the back of a queue that was about 300 people long and it only 10 minutes or so to get to the front
Despite it being quite a dull ride this removal will heavily change the park in my opinion. Lines will be slightly longer than the usual 2 hours among other things. Terrible decision to close this without opening the new rollercoasters first.
As you all know I’ll never return but I heavily suggest for people who want to return or visit to not go until both new roller coasters are opened as the park is now gonna be the worst it’s ever been.
Let’s say 30 people are in queue to ride the rapids and 20 are riding at any given time. Now those 50 people will be in queues for other rides and anyone who has been to the park knows it’s not 50 it’s usually in the hundreds
@@shadowmoth9158 The new coasters open in 2024? The park will be less crowded by the time the rapids close anyway, and the time between this and the new coasters coincides with a period of low popularity for rides like this one. Unless the coasters get delayed, I think you are over exaggerating the impact closing Viking River Splash will have on the park.
@@ElectriKong- I’ve only been once and done little pre-trip research or after-trip research and I I’m just going off what I experienced 4 weeks ago
Sad i never ride it before I wish I did
I can gladly say I have gone on this years ago!
I believe that I experienced Vikings River Splash the last time I went to LEGOLand Windsor which was about 10+ years ago
Quite unexpected, always seems popular!
I know a lot of downtime on this ride came from E-Stops. In fact, in my time of operating the ride, I remember very few 'breakdowns'. Due to 2017 but also the nature of the ride we had zero tolerance for guests not following the ride restrictions. Guests standing up, child on a lap, swapping seats etc... As all of those were unsafe acts, if there was no change after three PAs, the ride must be shut down to ensure safety. This would then mean an evac of the lift hill and final area and then a re-start of the ride. A fast evac and reset would be 30min minimum. Normally it would take longer from red button to operation.
You mentioned cost. It always takes 5 staff to run. which is a lot on a low-season day but could have up to 8 staff running it at peak. There were also a few design flaws from ABC but they were overcome by the fantastic operators and the training behind them. It was a tough ride to operate (but I always loved it). Whenever I went to other rapids rides, I would think "oh, is that all the staff have to do here. Bliss!" Boats are slow before the lift hill, more time on the turntable was available, and you actually got wet from the ride so people came off happy!
When the water was switched off, people seemed to complain more about the rapids nature (roughness) of the ride. You didn't get wet on the ride without the effects. I think a mix of 2017, ABC flaws, running costs and the common guest behaviour has led to this close. As much as it saddens me to see it go, I understand why.
Thanks for sharing all of this information!
I’ve been always need to get on it and now I know when my last chance is 😢
😢 that was a very good ride.
Thank you for letting everyone know Shawn
I never had the chance to ride it as both times I've been it was closed.😢
that was one of my favourites
I loved this ride when I was little, I'm very sad to see it go.
If the ride is removed and Legoland add a new land in it's place, I hope they don't go with LEGO Dreamzzz for the theme. I mean, it's kind of the only original theme they have to put in there, but I hope it's not that. Maybe an extension to the Ninjago Land somehow?
Hope they would add another family rollercoster that would bring a good variety of costers for legoland mabye they would change theme to that would be interesting to see.Cant wait to see what will happen next.
Was closed last Thursday, got the feeling then it would soon be gone
Noooooooooooooooooooo! I never got to go on Viking river splash at legoland Windsor resort Shawn! It’s been closed in march when I visited it had down time!
I kinda want Congo to go soon. Or get a really good refurb. That space has amazing potential for future investments
Fancy a cuppa any1 lol there’s enough cups for every1, keep up the great vlogs mate😊
An intamin straddle coaster is perfect as it will be legolands first launch coaster and the uks only straddle rollercoaster and it could be the first rollercoaster in the uk to have 3 launches
I hope they already have plans for a replacement and the aite isnt going to sit empty for years which is what i fear as this cloaure may not have been planned. I wonder if a new coaster themed around Ninjago could work, as it's location is perfect, the entrance could come from next to the hill train station.
Think its just economics - they’re adding two coasters if you count both track so something has to go. Hope they dont leave it in situ overgrown like loggers.
I am sad the ride is closing as I love rapids rides. I thought the Viking theming was so fun. I don’t remember the tipping buckets but I remember the singing lady that used to have water shooting out of her mouth! Sad that the UK is loosing yet another water ride. 😭
Great memories!
Loved this one will be sad to see it go 😢 I remember riding opening year with my mum and she got soaked by the bucket at the end with it landing directly on her 😂 but as mutch as I loved this ride I think it is time for the park to refresh that area and invest in sometime new
Thanks for sharing your memories!
My idea is they could cover it over (as in make it indoors) and turn it into a ride like The Gruffalo river ride at Chessington. i.e. a slow boat ride (with a little wetness) but that tells a Lego story. It’d also be unaffected by the weather. Maybe not a big enough space but I think that would be nice. The Gruffalo ride is so popular and I definitely think it would appeal to the key demographic of Legoland.
That’s a very interesting idea!
We have been 4 times to legoland including last weekend and its been clised every time we have been
Tell u what, for 2000s kids, legoland up to like 2016 was peak times.......sad to see the rapids go because that was definitely what i thought in my head when someone said legoland at the time when i was small.......but that space may be legendary in the future 🤞
The ride has been closed because of its running cost and it has to have 15 members to monitor it on it and make sure everyone’s safe, and most of those members aren’t available on most days
I think the newly announced family RMC would work well in that area however I don’t know about if it would work especially with the hill.
Great news update as always Shawn
That’s why when I can this year it was closed
About time they either upgraded the Rumba Rapids at thorpe park or did something else with it.
Just throwing this out there as we are talking about this sort of ride.
I think it is also because of COVID. That water rides are not particularly produced anymore, in the last few years. A lot of main parks tend to focus on the highest coaster, the latest tech... .
See you next summer.
I mean we’ve seen Chessington get an inversion, and there’s Maximus at the one of the other Legoland parks so I could totally see the worlds first inverting Water at Legoland in the Viking plot.
It was shut a week ago when we went.
Bit overdue tbh, been tired for years and always hit and miss whether it’s up or not. Is there a natural lake there? Wonder what will come of the water when it’s no longer needed.
This was my first ever river rapids as a kid. Quite sad tbh
I'm very shocked to hear this, used to love Viking River Splash, I really hope its just a retheme as this ride has a lot of potential
HUNDERFOSSEN TEAMPARK IN NORWAY have ride like this.
Also a trackless dark ride would be nice, Legoland haven't got your standard dark ride which you can just relax most of them are interactive
That would be great
Water rides are usually my favourite ones... .
Thank you Legoland
Thank you Legoland
Thank you Legoland
R.I.p Viking river splash 2007-2023
Maybe they've heard your feedback, Shawn
Wasn't spinning spider and longboat invader in the area too? And the maze
Once I went on it and got hit by the bucket and loved it! Ever since then, even me as a kid saw that the ride wasn't as good as it used to be
They were back in the day!
We went to LEGOLAND with our 2 and a half year old daughter in the first week of August! She absolutely loves the Dinocoaster and even loved Merlin’s challenge!!! Sad to see this closing.
Can I ask have you ever been on the crazy taxi coaster at New York New York hotel in Las Vegas?! The air time is amazing 😊
We have indeed!
Yea they drained all the water out when i went a few months ago
Spinning spider is part of the land of the Viking’s
Totally shocked. This came from NOWHERE. I’ve never actually ridden it!
It was very surprising!
I went on this with my 5 year old last year and the ride was so violent. At one point the raft hit the side with such force that his hands were ripped from the handrails and he was thrown about in the vehicle. My husband and I restrained him so he was OK but it was so scary I vowed that I would never ride it again :(
Sorry to hear that!
Thanks
They could make the whole area Ninjago themed or do something with Lego dreamz
I think it’s a huge shame, while it had an ugly trough, it makes water rides harder and harder to find.! It’s worrying how many we’ve lost now! Rip!
Recently lego made a new product called lego “dreams” I predict that they will make a ride oit of this
At least 4 of the rides were closed when I went there a couple of weeks ago.
I wasn't impressed. Two of them were firm favourites of my son.
The early entry from the hotel is a joke as well. Most of the rides weren't ready.
If it was to be kept I would bring in intermin because it’s so julty currently and add more theming to it
I just think intimin make better rapids as they are less julty
Intamin rapids are definitely better
You say legoland won't build thrill rides but Legoland Destchland have just built Mythica Coaster and that could fit or a gravity group family could work to.
It has been a good ride at Legoland.
noooooo why would they be closing the riversplash wide reopen it shawn 😭😭😭😭
Time to replace it with the world's first rollercoaster combining lego and fire
We saw you at Alton towers today!!
Hope you had a great day!
Personally I would like to see something like the wing coaster that opened at the one in Germany. I think it would work quite well on the hillside and it also gives the younger ones that next step up after either the dragon or these boomerang coasters opening next year
Chessington exists. Family-thrill does not make sense at Legoland Windsor.
Iconic ride, sad it's going. But I can't blame them for wanting to change it. It's rare to see it open, (hopefully they will push for it to be open more often over September). Could be replaced by a couple of attractions.
With the Vikings theme, it was larger than just the vicking ride and the pathway. Even if it's due to it working well with the old wild woods theme which included the Mazes, viking boat and Rat Trap.
It’ll be interesting to see!
Just there today.... definitely closed and has not and will not open this year, so the messages on the app and to pass holders are misleading. Shame as we loved that ride and our youngest was finally tall enough for it😢
