Open settings-> search “VPN” > open -> turn off VPN status if it is on and then come back and open a specific App. End of shortcut operation. Do you think we can do this is iPhone shortcuts?
No. Search the actions in Shortcuts and you'll see there is nothing there for VPN. The best you can do is create something that takes you into the Settings app to make it easier, but you still have to control it manually.

Cool! Thanks for helping me get started with shortcuts. I always wanted a faster way to change certain settings like switching location services on/off. I was hoping to add a button for toggling location services into the control center but if that’s not possible maybe a I can create a shortcut.

I've never tried to create Shortcuts for Chrome. Doe sit add actions to Shortcuts to do what you want? If not, I don't think there is any way. An app has to support Shortcuts for you to be able to do things with it.
hey gary, again a very good and informative video! thank you! i’ve got a question regarding the interaction of an iphone connected with an imac (mac os mavericks). in older mac os versions it was possible to use your connected iphone as a jukebox in itunes. is it possible to see the iphones music and playlists like in older mac os versions? with the new apple music app it only shows the tracks in alphabetic order but there’s no way of showing the playlists or ratings of the music on the mac etc. hoping for your advice - thanks in advance!
No idea. I don't have anything running a version of macOS that old. I encourage you to experiment and see what you can find. But why not just use the iMac's Music library to play songs?

@@zwischenzeichen Is you work Mac really using Mavericks? A work Mac? If it was using Monterey, you could AirPlay to it from your iPhone. Maybe just get a cheap Bluetooth speaker to use at work.
Airplay to Mac is awesome! I also use an app called Airfoil Satellite that allows me to simultaneously airplay music to any computer, phone or Bluetooth speaker at the same time and it keeps all the speakers in sync. It’s an awesome way to play your music from your phone or Mac to any other device and is a cheap way to get “whole house audio”

I'm trying to automate turning wi-fi and Data settings on and off when I leave my house and come home again. But I am only able to get the automation to the 'Run' screen. I have set up the short cut but it always asks me to 'run' the shortcut. I can't actually 'automate' the shortcut. Is there a way of doing this? Also, Can I set up a short cut to open Wallet? No, switching off Wi-Fi isn't an action that would include the "Run Without Asking" option. But why do you need it? If you are away from your Wi-Fi and not near another Wi-Fi you already know, then you wouldn't be using Wi-Fi anyway. As for the Wallet app, just use Open App and then choose Wallet. Not sure of your reason to need that either. It is hard to help without knowing the "why" behind questions as that so often leads to the wrong answers (this is called the XY problem). What are the problems you are trying to solve with these two Shortcuts ideas?

@@gbsailing9436 but there is a setting specifically for what you want. In Settings, Wi-Fi, turn off Ask to Join Networks. Then you won’t be bothered by that again, your phone will only join networks you previously accessed, and you can still manually join a new network if needed.
Hi Gary The text replacement in settings doesn’t seem to keep the format of the message which we save , say a long list of things or for me details of the patients for which I use almost everyday . Any tips or tricks apart from the copy pasting or using apps which use clipboard ???
Text Replacement is just plain text, not styling, if that is what you mean. Not sure what your needs are, so hard to answer. Why would you want to paste a long list of saved items with styling on your iPhone? What does patient information have to do with this? I'm not understanding your needs here.

@@macmost sure I am using shortcut and your method to turn on my smart plug that goes to my audio interface. I have it turning on my smart lights as well then turning on my speakers in that order. I want all those to turned on without me clicking ok each time. They will once I clock ok but I don’t want to have to input anything. Hope that makes sense.

Hi, I'm trying to play a song on my iPhone when an Automation is triggered using the Home app. In particular, when my smoke detector detects smoke, I want my iPhone to play a song (of a siren) at 100% to wake me & save my life, but I can't figure out how to do it. iPhone is not listed as an Accessory, so I can't select it. Does anybody know how I can do this? I also made a Shortcut to play a song on my iPhone, but I can't trigger it via an Automation through the Home app. Or does anybody know how I can do that? So you are saying you want a Shortcut to automatically move a new photo or video to an album? (That's not a dare, just a request).Since there is no Automation trigger for a new photo being taken you can't do it.

I know I’m probably in the minority but I just don’t see the app’s importance for a non technical user It’s just so much easier to do the steps manually rather than figuring them all out so I can program a button The help for this app is literally non existent at least with numbers for example they give you very very good clear examples so you can understand what that function or formula does This shortcut app is really substandard in that regard It also I see it has only 3 out of 5 stars Maybe in time someone from apple will wake up and provide clearer information unless their target is programmers Just my 2 cents Thanks for listening
The target isn't necessarily for programmers, but it isn't for beginners either. Not all apps should be aimed at beginners. It clearly takes some skills to build good Shortcuts.
I would gladly pay somebody 20 bucks to make me an automation that opens up TikTok and begins recording for the front facing camera and one for the rear facing camera
The TikTok app would need to support Shortcuts for that to happen. But there are plenty of apps you can get that record with both cameras and save to Photos, then you can import that into TikTok later.

That's for choosing from a list. You'd need to generate a list of items and then you can ask the user to choose one. It is for more complex Shortcuts.

I can't think of a way to do that. It isn't a problem with Shortcuts, but the Music app just does have a "shuffle but play this first" option.
Setting the action button to open this shortcut menu is also a good way to use it.

Not currently. There's no function to convert recorded voice to text. There are lots of third-party apps in this space though.

Yes. You can use a text variable or the text value from another action (as a Magic Variable) in the Open action.

No, you can't have a Shortcut choose a Wi-Fi network for you. You'll need to use Control Center for that.

You may be able to get more by working with Accessibility settings for text display. Or it could just be the size of your iPhone's screen.

Why not leave it on all the time? Or is the problem you are sleeping with your Apple Watch on (I charge it at night).
