I'm an electronics technician (so, not a beginner) and I think this is the best simplest most concise introduction video to multimeters I've seen. Great job!
The cheap one doesn’t beep?? So does that mean you can’t test continuity? When ever I try with mine nothing happens.. but I have no idea how to work it. But no video I’ve watched has helped me figure out how to work it. Maybe the free one I found is broken.
Thank you for this video. Simple, straightforward, clear. And you showed how to use an inexpensive AND a more expensive multimeter. Informative and not 'talking down' to people who want to learn. Bravo. I subscribed.
Dude, great video. Im in my senior year of my electrical engineering major and i just bought my first handheld multimeter and this video cleared up all my confusion immediately. I've only used multimeters before in the University's EE lab, so i just needed a quick tutorial like this, and you nailed it. Thanks for the tip at the end btw about the auto-adjusting multimeter, I'm getting that next time.
This is fantastic. You even had the same cheap multi meter I have. In England we have been advised to expect power cuts due to the war by Russia. I have an electric bike with a 36 volt 500 amp hour battery. I have bought a step down transformer from 36 to 5 volt. It has USB connectors on it. I can run 5 volt LED light strips, tablets and phones etc. I also bought some heat pads that I can fit into my clothes or sleeping bag if it gets cold. This tutorial has helped my understand better what is happening. Thanks.
Excellent video mate. Concise, informative, and easy to understand. Exactly what I wanted to know, and no extra crap that I didn't. I went through almost 10 videos until I found your one and its by far the best. Well done.
Excellent video for a beginner like me. I was able to diagnose my washing machine as needing a new control board vs a new motor with the content from the first five minutes of your video, I have never used a multi meter before. Thank you for saving me $200US!
this video should be downloaded and shared to students in all school... i am an old person...and I was not expected it is that easy... thank you for teaching me i will order one now. before this video, i was not thinking even of buying as it was looking so difficult... i love youtube for such vedio
Brilliant! Following this video I attempted to sort out the wires in the ceiling in my garage (just loose wires, not even a ceiling rose!) and now the light is working as it should be. many thanks!
Great Video - we were struggling to find out why our solar panel was not charging the battery and we discovered a small lead fault. Thanks - clear, comprehensive and well explained
As many others have said, thanks for using the cheaper multimeter. It’s what many of us have as it doesn’t make sense to spent £100s when you’re doing DIY (especially first time using multimeters). Awesome video.
thanks you is very very helpful you took your time explaining how the multimeters works and their functions i misplaced my manual your precise instructions very helpful. from USA. thanks
Finally an easier break down. I still have a few questions but it's probably my bot being confident with it. I really wish I got one without all the dumb numbers. Nobody's explained that when I try to check my relays I never know the number to use. I've replaced my battery and my alternator twice so I know I need to check my relays & circuts but been stuck for days bc I always get stuck on which number to use. I refuse to spend a ton until I've checked my relays. I'm getting closer to doing it lol
I learn a bit, it’s really great instructor and easy to understand, thanks heaps & God bless.

Needed to measure the amperage of some batteries to test weather the reduced range in my 3x 12 volt lead acid battries is due to lead sulphate build up. Very good video - going to subscribe.
brilliant video. i do read books about electricity and do feel the need to throw it out my window and into the neighbours garden. however your video kept me awake and focused. thank you! #Subscribed
Video helped a lot, thanks! I was just told by the auto part store that my battery was toast. Spent $165 on a new battery. Then I randomly came across my multimeter and figured I would test my old one myself before getting rid of it and found out I completely wasted $165, my battery is fine! 🫤
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful in explaining how and what setting to use for different things. That is not necessary to have a multi-meter with a lot settings for stuff around the house. Again Thank you!
Awesome Awesome Awesome video! Never knew you had to break the circuit and insert your multi meter into the circuit to complete the circuit to measure amps!
Ok 2 videos watched ... 2 videos excellent quality of dissemination of information as well as content very professional... I like the fact that you are wearing gloves as well ... some people have ugly hands and or nails... nice touch...
Cheap multimeters are perfectly fine for testing continuity and lower voltages (12v and below - car batteries, AA batteries etc) but if you're going to be using one for testing current or high voltage it's better to spend a bit more money. Something to look for is the number of jacks. It will have a black com (common) jack, then usually either 2 or 3 red jacks. Look for one that has 3. One for volts, one for milliamps and one for 10 amps. You don't want one that shares a volt and milliamp jack like the two cheaper ones in this video. Generally it's a sign of cost cutting and the fuses they use on meters like those aren't very good. You don't have to go out and buy a Fluke, but spend a few extra dollars when dealing with current or high voltage, the extra layer of safety will pay for itself if you make a mistake, and we all make mistakes.
Great vid and very educational🙏🏾🤠keep up the good work I learned plenty.I'll jus have to watch the vid again sometimes in case I can't remember something. But thanks again Bro🤠cheers👍
Great video and thanks so much for your time. I have a velodyne dd plus subwoofer that wont power on. Whats the best setting on my multimeter to test the power supply on my subs back panel. Subscribed
Correction - AC means Alternating current, I don't know why i said alternative, stupid me
most people would still understand the meaning even if you misnamed it. At least it was not confused with Direct Current.
Great video... don't worry about that
alternative current worked for me... I'm sure all viewers knew what u meant 😀
I didn’t even notice.
Junky DIY guy its alright its clearly understood
I'm an electronics technician (so, not a beginner) and I think this is the best simplest most concise introduction video to multimeters I've seen. Great job!
Definitely. This was my first time ever using one, and no issues figuring it out right off!
Thanks for being gentle and humble to test in cheap one that everyone could afford.
hamza ________ I need hep
I have the same one🤔🥴
I have a cheap one , but for the simple projects it's fine 👍

No one taught like you in such an easy way. Your work is really appreciative. Thanks buddy. Keep it up.

After watching half a dozen flogers trying to find out what I wanted to know on this subject this was the most easiest to understand!
Thank you 🙏
Really informative, no-nonsense and concise. I am gonna buy my multimeter now.
cool you are a lot more comprehensive than others. i like that you cover safety and give practical examples like the fuel injectors etc.
I read some comments on your video and I think you have done a great job, ty.

Wish there was a option for 2 Thumbs Up! God Bless Zew Zealand!
Good point
Excellent practical presentation for me an absolute beginner who wants to buy a basic multimeter for home use.
Video helped a lot, thanks! I was just told by the auto part store that my battery was toast. Spent $165 on a new battery. Then I randomly came across my multimeter and figured I would test my old one myself before getting rid of it and found out I completely wasted $165, my battery is fine! 🫤

At first I thought that the cheap multimeter can't resist the ac current because it's very cheap but your video just proves it can handle it.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks 👍
