    Very good tutorial for novices.
    I would add that ALL measurements should be made in 5 steps (never skip a step !!!):
    STEP 1: Check the probes connections on the DMM (are they plugged into the correct positions/holes?).
    STEP 2: Turn the dial to the required region (V/A/Ω) and scale/position for the measurement you want to make (Preferably start with higher scale and for your NEXT MEASUREMENT scale down, if needed).
    STEP 3: Connect the probes to the measuring points carefully, i.e. avoid short-circuiting the probes.
    STEP 4: Disconnect the probes carefully.
    STEP 5: For your NEXT measurement go to STEP 1 (not STEP 2 !!!)
    For "old boys": STEP 2.5: Be careful with polarity, if you are using an ANALOG Multi-meter 🙂

    Using the probes in one hand is annoyingly difficult to get them where they need to be. The manufacturers should make some sort of hinged adjustable magnetic joiner for the probes to hold their position in relation to each other and the target to measure.

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  3 місяці тому +1

      @gacattack1234 Good idea. If measuring AC sockets every day, could make an adapter out of a power plug, that would be very safe and easy to use.

    • @gacattack1234
      @gacattack1234 3 місяці тому +1

      @@solarpoweredge you could have some leads joined to a plug end, or to sockets that the probs could be plugged into that are connected to a plug. Easy to do yourself if you have the need for it.

    So you also could measure amps of 110V or 220V devices with the 10A setting as long as the device draws 10A or less?
    Also, what is the diameter of the banana plugs to replace the cheap probes it comes with (because this looks like every cheap multimeter I've ever owned)?

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  4 місяці тому +2

      Hi, this meter measures only DC through the 10A side.
      The banana plugs are usually 4mm on multimeters, however it's best to measure them to make sure. Better test probes with silicone insulation can be had for just a few bucks.
      For measuring high voltage AC Amps, an AC clamp meter is much safer, example: ua-cam.com/video/gqTZ-K_NaAo/v-deo.html
      Hope this helps

    What is true RMS on a multimeter?

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  2 місяці тому +1

      @johnbeckham1483 The ability to measure root mean square or average of a changing (or rapidly alternating AC) voltage. Some meters get confused when reading changing voltages, and they might display strange results. It's sometimes hard to tell if a cheaper meter has RMS. I think all midrange meters today have it so it's just something to keep in mind
