- Today we're taking a quick look into how i'm scanning my developed film at home on my iPhone! DISCLAIMER: this method is not the "best" method if you're looking to publish your work anywhere other than social media, and I still believe having the proper tools to do so matter greatly. However, this is a fun little exercise to practice if you're a beginner or hobbyist diving into film! Enjoy 😃

That's really cool. I had no idea you could even do that with a phone. The differences were pretty minimal and could just as easily be a result of the processing itself
It takes a bit of practice but I definitely think it has its place and saves a boat load on purchasing high res scans!
Yes, this is the road I have decided to follow as well, actually started experimenting with the iPhone like four, five years ago. Then followed everyone else with scanner etc but quickly realized it was way to slow and expensive and actually to complicated.. I have tons of photos so iPhone plus a kit from Pixltr or Jjc will be the effective way and then when a really nice slide/negative pops up then it goes to a professional. I will save money and time :)
Great video!
I think you've got a great strategy going with this! The Phone holder kits that are available are more than capable. I really appreciate the support🙏🏼
i know you’ve recommended not using this technique for large print projects like magazines and billboards. have you tried any printing for smaller sizes like 4x6 or 5x7?
This is a great question! I personally haven't tried any prints using this technique but you've sparked my curiosity. I'll give it a whirl and report my findings!
Good video, thanks. I'm thinking of making the jump from android to iphone 16 and using this method. I'm considering building some sort of rig to make the process easier. Let's not forget the intended output as well: if the objective is to get your negs to a more viewable format, catalogue, and probably only view online (with a phone or laptop/desktop monitor) this resolution & quality will be fine - any images you may want to print (particularly to a larger size) can then be lab scanned and printed. The money you save over the year scanning by this method can pay for any selected images to be professionally printed. It's a win!
I can agree its been such a money saver for me vs letting the lab handle all my scans! Very good points you've made here regarding any "special" picks you may want printed.
Thanks for the support🙏🏼
Nice tutorial :) In the first image which was scanned with the Iphone had slight blurry corners. But the scans looked very similar. Did you shoot in RAW for scanning your films using iPhone?
Thank you for the kind words! I do shoot RAW with my phone using Lightroom mobile's camera.
Thanks for the support🙏🏼
this was great. For social media I think the iphone scans are perfectly acceptable. latest iphone has macro mode as well so would be curious to know how much difference it makes. also at 48mp wonder if that makes much difference.
I can agree! Heck, even with my poor little Iphone 11's camera I've been very satisfied with the results lol social media pages compress the heck out of images anyway. Thanks for the support!🙏🏼
Impressive !
Thank you!🙏🏼
Light bed ordered and now I just need a week off to scan my film lol
Oh man lemme know how it turns out!
UA-cam: How To: Develop Color Print Film (C-41 Process) Use a Mask and Gloves.
Once i start developing my color film in house i'd love to put a tutorial out. I'm currently doing my B&W here at home
Thanks for the support!🙏🏼
Great hack
Thanks for the support!🙏🏼
I can tell the difference, but as you’ve stated.. you’ve color graded to your preference. I really enjoyed this insight of your video 👍
. I think I’d rather do this, then professionally have cells developed as needed,
I really appreciate this feedback!🙏🏼 I'm in a similar mindset. I can self scan here at home for 95% of my images, and if need be send the unicorns to the lab haha
