@@StreetwizeJJ2 Not incorrectly no. EDIT: Pat and Ian later commented on their podcast about this three way interview and he was pretty miffed not just by Mad Dog but by Karl as well, although the former got more anger.
I got 9 minutes in and quit. I wasn’t going to last much longer with Mad Dog bullshitting that he “accidentally” misrepresented Pat by editing his sentence, but to hear Karl join in on misrepresenting Pat by saying he is anti seal is too much. The guy has sealed games and cherishes them, what he has a problem with is people leveraging the seals to make money in an unsustainable market.
100%. This guy is a complete scumbag liar who's trying to justify his speculation and attempted scams through the lens of collecting, even though an actual collector would ideally want prices to be down so they wouldn't have to spend as much on collecting things. Absolutely embarassing and I'm glad he's run off with his tail between his legs and the way he has.
Without knowing the dude up top, he's constantly like, that's not what you meant right mad dog throughout the video, kind of assisting him in answering a certain way. Just my opinion, it does feel a little 2 on 1 ... big respect to Karl for standing up for yourself
Definitely not 2 on 1, I like Karl a lot, agree with him on many things, and have respect for both guys to come on and talk like adults. I thought that was commendable in my book.
I hate to break it to you but there was no winner nor was this a loser. I didn't take this as a debate. Its worth a watch.... I watched Karl's video on the guy 3 times and that's 3 hours of watch time this is half of that
Wiener Dog shills for Wata while not understanding why ethics exist and keeps saying that the guy being unethical is rich so why would he be unethical. It's really pathetic.
It's amazing how far this guy goes trying to justify how Jim Halpern and Wata did nothing wrong, just because "Jim is a nice guy". He can't even see the problem with the conflict of interest in Jim owning part of Wata and not disclosing it. I don't know anything about law and I still realize it's unethical and slimy. The general sentiment I got from Mad Dog's original rebuttal video is that he didn't even watch Karl's original video and/or didn't understand it, which continues here.
For all his paper thin defenses of Wata, I’d LOVE to hear him defend the memory-holing of Nintendo Age in order to hide historical pricing info accrued over DECADES. There was literally NO HONEST reason to make that disappear other than to control the pricing narrative going forward. TRY to defend it. We dare you.
I don't know much about NintendoAge, I wasn't a member, but from what I understand it was a community effort in which numerous people had spent hundreds of hours data basing the inserts and contents for every console game. These people weren't paid for their time, and therefor I believe that data belongs to the people. I don't like to give opinions on matters I'm not fully informed on, but if this is the case I would have to agree it is not at all right to make it private and erase all of those donated community hours. As far as your speculation that it was for the intent of hiding historical pricing in the forums, I have never heard that one before, but would ask to what benefit would that have to GoCollect? It's not clear to me why they bought NintendoAge, other than being a part of a larger deal including a large collection of sealed games? I've never looked into it. Either way, the forum should have never been taken down... it belonged to the community that built it
@@themaddogcollection What benefit is there to GoCollect? Dain sold his entire collection (and NintendoAge) to Jeff (the FOUNDER of gocollect and BOARD MEMBER OF WATA) who immediately does two things: scuttles NintendoAge, and then has Wata grade the collection. WATA also dubs it the “Carolina Collection” on any piece coming from said collection. How is that fair or impartial to anyone else using their service? (They would have to KNOW every piece sent in from said collection in order to designate it on the label) Could them offering a unique or exclusive designation to a single customer (who is also a board member!) affect pricing? Now, before you ask, no, none of that is “illegal” since this is still an unregulated market. But is it shady as hell? ABSOLUTELY! And it speaks to intent which is only a stones skip from manipulation (or worse). For what it’s worth (and if you want to believe him) Dain CLAIMS he would have never sold NintendoAge if he knew they were just gonna scuttle it.
Who can defend someone that purposely clips out important parts off videos to further prove his points at the cost of the truth? It's shady as fuck and I don't like liars
@@themaddogcollection You're asking the correct questions but from wrong angle. Exactly, it's not clear to me either why WEBSITE was bought as part of deal about VIDEO GAMES. There's no clear answer out there and your guess is as good as mine (or Karls for that matter) but it sure feels suspicious that there was a huge sell of valuable collectives and as part of deal buyer also bought THE definite pricing guide of those said collectives only to take it down. Again, there's probably no evidence to make this claim but it FEELS like this could've been for the purpose of hiding history, which would make it easier to dictate the prices if one had the intent to do so.
You have to have a conscious to have regrets. He knows he's full of crap and just a slimy speculator who wants to see his collection continue to skyrocket off the back of unethical scumbags.
I stumbled onto this and I have to say, Karl and Drob made some good points. But Mad dog just kept making insane statements. Everything from conflict of interest being okay, basically endorsing borderline illegal activity just because it isn't quotable to the law but is obviously illegal through broader laws, to just not understanding the points that are being made by Drob and Karl. He's either not knowledgeable enough about it the reasons for the outrage or he is deliberately trying to mislead people, and I sincerely hope it's the first one.

Why defend Wata games when the proof is there that they conduct unethical business practices? As a mild collector myself I'm not interested in the prices of games unless I'm buying. If you are an investor or speculator would be the only reason to defend Wata overinflating prices.
Because, as Mad Dog said in his video, high price means large quantities, and therefore it's valuable by default. And as you may guess, that statement is wrong.
@@Trimint123 Unfortunately this goes against the law of scarcity, where the fewer but more desirable something is, the higher the price will naturally be. The only value that comes from a million seller carries is making it's creator lots of money.
Collectors are not investors and vice versa. Collectors buy to own. Investors buy to sell. 17:45 All these guys are talking about is "the market". Collectors will own something because they care about it. Investors own something to sell it. 18:50 If you were buying what you love, the price drops would be a positive thing for you. 20:00 Here maddog is talking about his "time in the market". Collectors do not talk like this. Collectors don't have "time in the market", they have "I love X for whatever reason". 21:00 Why would you care about a catalyst for a market? If you don't sell games like you said in the beginning 1:51, the catalyst doesn't matter. A collector that is interested in collecting something for themselves would not want a 3rd party jacking up the prices on things they want to collect. If I find a great sealed game, and its selling for $30 bucks, thats far better than a whole company and grading system that now makes the same thing cost $100k. 29:21 This whole argument is BS. Mad Dog starts losing the argument because of Karl's quoting an article at 31:00 and drobgaming has to jump in to change the direction. 40:00 Mad Dog trys to tell himself and everyone that he is basically right, Karl thankfully shuts him down. 40:55 Karl never said they were worth $0. Mad Dog trys to state there was no manipulation and claim it as fact, again, without proof or the ability to deny arguments. 43:30 This is a good point. The graders should not also give a price. 45:00 Karl has a great point here with this, being an authority AND saying that an asset will go up in price is manipulation. 47:50 This apoligetic stance is BS. 52:05 This is a BS argument. A speculative market only takes someone saying that the price is going up, just like Karl said. It doesn't matter if the actual price is going up or down, the issue of manipulation is people communicating a potential market movement. 55:55 YES buying a game for 100k from a company you founded IS manipulation (if I understand that right). 58:00 Again, MARKET talk. 59:00 MD Why are you so interested about other buyers? As a supposed collector, other people shouldn't matter. 1:00:05 Karl fires another bullet but they dodge hard. 1:06:00 Karl, your viewers are GAMERS first, collectors second maybe, and lastly would be investors. Gamers want games to stay $10-$50 so that they are accessible to anyone who is interested. 1:11:10 Again, Mad Dog tries to state a fact and hope that noone argues it, just scummy. 1:15:15 These people are VERY different. One is a world class speed runner and gamer, the other is an investor. 1:18:30 Karl basically defines what a collector means, he wants to collect a game because it means something to him. No investment, no marketing, not worried about other buyers.
drob saving his ass at 31:20 was so annoying. Carl made a salient point he couldn’t counter and just when the stammering started, drob stepped in. Let him try to counter Carl’s airtight point!
@@5in1killa Yeah this is my biggest red flag about the guy. If you are an investor, just say it. Just don’t say you care about games and that you are “buying what you love”.
It's so bizarre to see someone attempting to defend something that's so commonly understood to be a fraud, especially against someone who basically definitely proved it.
I wish Pat would have come to make a statement one way or another but he probably just doesn't want to deal with this crap. That was my big issue that he clearly edited footage to make someone say something that in the proper context they did not. All the rest of it is whatever to me. When it was brought up there was no real answer from anyone on this point and it still remains a mystery to me how he didn't apologize or admit at the very least that he may have accidentally misrepresented what Pat said. Insanity.
35:39 Thats why i think politicians shouldn't be allowed to own stocks or high end real estate bc they can manipulate the market and know whats laws or regulations are coming before the public.
Props for coming out of hiding and actually talking, but come on man. We all know why you made that video. It's over. The prices are going to continue to fall to reasonable prices. Trying to attack content creators who speak the unbiased truth isn't going to make the prices go back up to what they were. It was a dumb idea that blew up in your face.
33:51 The general consumer would make the assumption that they would get advantageous perks from their own company. I mean, why wouldn't they do it? They're basically business partners that would benefit from each other. From an outsider's perspective it raises questions why they're using their own services while they're actively being part owner with said company. If they don't want to raise any red flags, in this case, a conflict of interest or fraud, they shouldn't be able to use their own service at all. By not using the service they eliminated any possible red flags to gain preferential treatment (better grades, faster grade times, etc). I'm not sure if Mad Dog is aware of the legal ramification when companies could be suspected of profiting from side businesses. Committing fraud is a felony offense.
Mad Dog does come off as rather shady and not really having a clear understanding of ethical practices... I do commend him for showing up and doing this... Also as one who has a rather sizeable collection of posters, HA (Heritage Auctions) is the LAST place I'd buy from. They're older and far more reputable dealers in the realm of vintage movie poster / lobby card / etc... After this foul up with WATA, I'm glad I've steered clear from them for years.
Is there some crazy damage control going on in the comments here, some sort of auto-filter, or is my UA-cam bugged? Seeing comments with 5-10 replies but only one or two actually show up, if any. Very peculiar if it isn't a bug as I've pretty much never seen such phenomena on the website before now. Nice that you actually sat down and talked with Karl although your points are still incredibly flawed.
I don’t think it’s complicated what I dislike about sealed game collecting. It would be akin to people buying shoes and never taking them out of the box. It’s just commercialism and materialism at its grossest.
Right and don’t forget that for speculators it includes driving the price up for greedy dumping purposes and it negatively affects people with a sane moral compass who actually love the thing/hobby itself. Speculators taint everything they touch for their parasitic schemes. Look at the way that almost any new thing in gaming sells out immediately and is held hostage for inflated prices, you still don’t have a snowballs chance in hell of getting an N64 controller for the Switch at retail, it’s ridiculous.
@@brady9592 You make a good point. That N64 controller has been on the market for, what, 2 years? I had an easier time getting a PS5 than that silly thing. I just don’t appreciate anyone coming into this hobby and brute forcing prices to go up. That has NOT always been the case. It’s not all the fault of graded games but they certainly don’t help.
I guess this guy gets what he wants in the end, the "PUBLIC ATTENTION". I don't support the people who calls themselves a collector when they are really just in it for the money. I'm disappointed that Karl even agreed to this interview when there is really no point for it other than a damage control for the guy.
Between this guy doubling down on numerous indefensible and/or completely irrelevant positions, the open admission that his video was inspired personal relationships and interactions with Khan and Halperin - conflict of interest, by the way -, and the third guy constantly interrupting Karl, this was a tough listen. Would’ve liked to hear more pushback from Karl, but I suppose it wasn’t a formal debate or anything. Mad dog is….very, very foolish, to put it nicely.
In this interview, you admit that you engaged in precisely the egregious lack of journalistic standard that you accuse Karl of in your video. "I didn't watch it all, it was just for jokes." Is an incredibly weak defense which belies an incredibly weak moral constitution.
The guy on top wonders how anyone can be anti-grading? When you have a company putting a value on something with no clear transparent guide and that same company also being involved with auctioning off these same items, I dont understand how you are unable to see the glaringly obvious issue in this. Let's be real... the main reason people are sticking up for WATA is because they have a lot of money invested and are only interested in themselves instead of accepting the truth of the situation.
Been collecting games a bit longer than this guy. My argument about the relationship between the market and collecting, is that if you love the thing you are collecting, you actually don't care in the slightest the way the market values your hobby. The dude is a speculative investor... He's not a collector. Watching his complete lack of morality and bewilderment about why conflicts of interest are still relevant regardless of your wealth is truly troubling. Grading is a scam. Adding a $100 game to a $50 assessment doesn't make a game worth $450.
The misrepresentation of Pat's position is disgusting. He's irrelevant to this conversation, but if you're going to use him as an example, at least don't lie about his position and what's he's actually said.
Someone that buys stuff hoping is going to go up in price isn't a collector, so do not call yourself a collector when you value more the money the item is worth instead of the item itself :/
I would have liked the host to not cut Karl off so much when he was making a point, and to have asked him why he is against speculating. Also, Mad Dog probably would benefit from doing a course in ethical practices and why they exist. Other than that, thanks for giving us a glimps into the heads of these people, who all seem reasonable, if somewhat misguided. No-one should be chastised.
Karl has stated he's not against speculating, he's against market manipulation. And in this matter he's not attacking all Seal Game collectors, or even all speculators, he's attacking a specific conspiracy ring--one which has been busted for this in the past because it is, in fact, illegal to do in ANY market in the United States (they did it previously with rare coins). Mad Dog is trying to change the conversation from "what WATA did was wrong" to "all collectors are fools" or "all speculators are evil" to make Karl look bad. Either because he's overly sensitive and not very bright and genuinely has missed the point, or because he's a WATA shill. GIven their shady history (which does involve actually being pretty good at manipulating media narratives), I'd guess it's the latter.
"WATA sold, they all made some money" does no one see the problem in that statement?! That sale to Collectors Universal alone has stink on it because of this. The sentiment is that WATA, Deniz and Heritage and the tiny clique of toadies colluding are the scam in this hobby. Stop broadbrushing the whole enterprise to make an invalid point. Karl, Pat and the gaming world are pointing at them, not the whole sealed scene. No way you were ignorant of Pat's context. Your editing is too clean for you to be that sloppy. Sealed collectors and speculators keep chewing on their own foot. 🤦
Imagine calling Pat contraindictive after everything he explained in his video. I couldn't make it throughout this entire video... Still misrepresenting him.
I don't believe any Mad Dog Collection word. People make mistakes, but I do not believe that he does not understand whole issue and the claims against WATA and Heritage. If he don't understand legal things than he should even argue about it and making UA-cam videos about it. He even don't understand facts presented to him.
I love playing and collecting video games. I love that they hold value as well and brag to my kids about it all the time 😂😂. That being said Karl is the man and I love how straight forward he is. Unethical is Unethical. Period.
the first thing mad dog does is open with how “karl’s fans left him special letters in his dms”. okay buddy. ur sooo open minded and willing to contribute to this conversation
I've watched both videos... Mad Dog's entire point seemed to be "Karl makes videos for money so he can't be trusted" then had to manipulate video and flat out lie to even remotely attempt to debunk anything in the video's substance. I live by the motto "If you feel like you need to lie, cheat, or steal to achieve something, you're probably on the wrong side"..... Mad Dog proved this to a tee.
Mad Dog, I'm curious, how did you evaluate what the impact of the Pawn Stars segment was? And the same goes for their other shady actions. You keep parroting that there was no impact but never care to explain what are you basing that on.
Even though I completely disagree with you, I respect you coming on to talk with Karl himself instead of being vindictive and starting drama like so many other UA-camrs lol
@Hamburgler Helper so, you're one of these "" collectors """ right? You're just upset you may have lost money? Sorry not sorry. Gaming and collecting is for everyone not just the 1% or people who want to be them. Get bent.
Not really, rap battles were more about "i just don't like this person so i insult them" and not, like in this case "i expose your lying and you commiting literal crimes". This is not an even battle, one party is right and one is wrong.
I still don't understand why games get graded, especially if one game gets manufactured the same as another. Collectors/collecting games, I understand and support but grading them screams scam to me. If anyone can kick knowledge about this I'm happy to try and understand.
its basically a way of saying a professional has looked at it and said how close to perfect the game is. simmilar to grading cards on the damage they have recieved
I think people fail to notice. The video in question was over 5 months ago. Karl probably saw it and saw it was a smaller channel punching up (nothing wrong with that as there are historical examples of punching up and fame yet self destruct because cant recreate the win). But karl ignored it because he saw 500 subs and wasn't going to entertain it. Once Dennis from wata shared it as a win against karl.... that was the green light and here we are today.
He slipped several times. This guy doesn't care about video games or collecting. He cares about the market. He got checked by Karl and couldn't defend anything he said about him.
I don't think mad dog is unaware of the ethics of the situation, but instead has potential to profit from not considering the ethics of non disclosure. He's very careful with his choice of words and doesn't trip up when he gets too close to any actual comments on the issue.
Why so much debate about whether sealed collecting is good or bad? The issue here is massive fraud and market manipulation. If anything, somebody outside of that market (not sealed collector) has a stronger footing to point out said dishonest practices over someone who is steeped in that market.
So the defence of Wata games from the guy up top is.. "it's shady" "it's bad business" but "it's technically not illegal" ... their critics, were less kind.
The tears when the true value and demand for 90% of the sealed/graded inventory out there will flow. I can't wait to buy my first wata graded game at a thrift store
Great to see you both joining the conversation after the video responses. One has the followers and the other has the collection. Karl obviously put most thought into the legal/ethical questions than the collecting/value questions, which people might not see at first. He's done some incredible work, and raised awareness around a few aspects that we're maybe not able to do anything with now, but is important to acknowledge
Mad dog is nothing but someone who stands to gain a lot of money off the scam, and like a 5yo child who had candy taken away, got mad when Wata got exposed, and made that fraud if a video about Karl and Pat. Bro is a hoarder more than a collector, it’s a smear to other collectors to call him one since those games will be useless to him once they lose value.
Make an hour long video talking about your favorite games without mentioning price or rarity once. Then Ill know you are serious about video games. If you arent serious about video games, then there is only one other reason you would spend this kind of money.
Just the pure lack of understanding what the arguments are against you is just amazing. The fact you can't even try to put yourself in another persons shoes is very telling what kind of person you are EDIT: But, the fact that you had this conversation with Karl is worth some kudos anyway
I find it so cute that Mad Dog says Karl is the one trying to profit off of making "sensational videos" while himself is making a sensational video AND directly profits off market manipulation and keeping people in the dark about it. How hypocritical can you get?

I got 9 minutes in and quit. I wasn’t going to last much longer with Mad Dog bullshitting that he “accidentally” misrepresented Pat by editing his sentence, but to hear Karl join in on misrepresenting Pat by saying he is anti seal is too much. The guy has sealed games and cherishes them, what he has a problem with is people leveraging the seals to make money in an unsustainable market.
"That's only from a fact-checker standpoint." is an absolutely disgusting sentence.
I'm honestly confused how somebody can say that and not feel physically sick.
It just sounds like "lies are okay until you find out the truth" to me.

Mad Dog just existing makes him lose apparently, he's that bad.
Wiener Dog shills for Wata while not understanding why ethics exist and keeps saying that the guy being unethical is rich so why would he be unethical. It's really pathetic.
What's the hardest substance ever found? That's how hard Karl won!
17:11 the ultimate WATA shill shills WATA. Are you even getting paid by them Mad Dog?
@@hibikikensaki lol facts. he would have at least heard of NintendoAge by word of mouth if he was a true collector

I guess this guy gets what he wants in the end, the "PUBLIC ATTENTION". I don't support the people who calls themselves a collector when they are really just in it for the money. I'm disappointed that Karl even agreed to this interview when there is really no point for it other than a damage control for the guy.

My man Karl doesn't deserve this, fr.
Agree, also... Doesnt seem honest.
Just simply said "I don't watch everything" just proofing the point that you are being deceptive of the entire thing.

Then Ill know you are serious about video games. If you arent serious about video games, then there is only one other reason you would spend this kind of money.
Just the pure lack of understanding what the arguments are against you is just amazing. The fact you can't even try to put yourself in another persons shoes is very telling what kind of person you are
EDIT: But, the fact that you had this conversation with Karl is worth some kudos anyway
I find it so cute that Mad Dog says Karl is the one trying to profit off of making "sensational videos" while himself is making a sensational video AND directly profits off market manipulation and keeping people in the dark about it.
How hypocritical can you get?
simple example of damage control, it's a shame that you have disabled comments on previous, "debunking" video.....
